Burnley said in a statement: "Deepest sympathies goes out to both the player's family and the club from everyone at Burnley Football Club."

BURNLEY - A sad day in football: Cotterill
The Citizen - Suzanne Geldard
"..Clarets boss Cotterill said: "It has been a difficult day all round and certainly more so for Queens Park Rangers then ourselves.
"It's a very, very sad day in football. He was a nice young man and budding young footballer who I am sure had a good career ahead of him.
"I spoke to John Gregory (QPR manager) and Mick Harford (assistant manager) this morning, we've liaised with Queens Park Rangers all along and they have our deepest sympathy.
"It was never a problem to call the game off. Sometimes football is put into perspective and whilst we were looking forward to the game, we were more than happy when we knew that QPR perhaps weren't in the right frame of mind..." News

BURNLEY FOOTBALL CLUB - Open Training Session & Collection

AN OPEN LETTER FROM AMIT BHATIA

Posted on: Wed 22 Oct 2008

Dear Supporters,

In recent days and weeks, I have had the chance to interact and speak with many of you - at home, in and around our stadium and also at our away fixtures.

Many of you have expressed excitement at the current and future prospects of the Club. Many of you feel the Club is on the right, forward moving track. Many of you have greeted us warmly and welcomed us into the QPR family. Firstly, allow me to thank you for all your support.

In much of the conversations we have had, and encouragement that you have given me, some of you have also expressed your unhappiness at the increase in ticket prices for category A matches. It is something that we have listened to intently as a Board and as shareholders - we have discussed this issue seriously and considered it deeply.

We live in tough economic times and many of you don't need the added burden of higher ticket prices at select fixtures. Your despair was warranted and justified. So, please be assured that with immediate effect and until the end of the season, we will have NO category A or B fixtures and tickets for all home fixtures at Loftus Road will be category C.

We appreciate that when you did express yourselves, the protests were done silently and peacefully, through letters and conversations. Point made and point taken!

Let's now get back to what's truly important and dedicate our energies to supporting the team on a matchday. Starting with the visit of Birmingham City to W12 on Tuesday night, let's sing loud and proud and be the formidable 12th man that we all know can make such a difference, especially at Loftus Road.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and thanks for the kind words and support that many of you have given us.

We stand corrected on the ticket price increases.

Come on you R's - onwards and upwards....

Yours sincerely,

Amit Bhatia

RODNEY MARSH TO MILLWALL?Never heard this before...According to Millwall History
In early 1966  (3 months before QPR signed Marsh), Millwall could have bought Rodney Marsh..

"...With Millwall and Hull City neck and neck at the top of the table, Billy Gray decided to changes the team around.  Hugh Curran  was sold to Norwich City for £12,500.  In came 20 year old Irishman Eamon Dunphy, for £8,000, who had spent just one season at York City since his move from Man Utd. His signing was a risk in that he was not a straight replacement for Curran, more of a midfield playmaker, not the all action hero the Millwall crowd had come to love.   "Gray had intended to make a double swoop, but the board refused to release the £5,000 needed to sign 21 year old Rodney Marsh from Fulham. " Millwall

EVENING STANDARD - October 18, 2013

Being dropped by QPR was worse than stick over England, says Rob Green

Rob Green has been vilified by the nation and publicly humiliated by Fabio Capello but nothing hurt him more than when he was sitting on the bench at Queens Park Rangers last season.

It is a surprising revelation as Green reflects on his highs and lows during a candid interview at the club’s training ground.

Few players have been through as much adversity on the pitch in recent seasons as the goalkeeper. Many fans unfairly made Green the scapegoat for England’s failure at the last World Cup even though he only played one match in that tournament.

That was in the opening game when Green’s mistake handed Clint Dempsey an equaliser and the United States a point.

England never appeared to recover from that blow, Green was heavily criticised, and England coach Capello added to the punishment by dropping him in favour of David James. The switch could not disguise the team’s shortcomings and they went out with a whimper, losing 4-1 to Germany in the last 16.

Still, that heartache was nothing compared to the indignity of losing his place to Julio Cesar in September last year, just weeks after former manager Mark Hughes convinced him to join QPR to be his No1. In fact, there were only 70 days between Green arriving from West Ham and the Brazil international pitching up at Loftus Road.

Green told Standard Sport: “Last season was tough in that all my adult life I have been a first-team goalkeeper somewhere and all of a sudden I wasn’t playing every week. I felt I lost a bit of my identity as a person.

“Playing on a Saturday is everything to me, what I do the job for and suddenly it was gone. I could relate to the guys who are retired and talk about how much they miss matches. I felt in a similar position.

“Was it harder than what happened with England? Absolutely. With QPR, I was left out for a much more sustained period. For a couple of months I wasn’t playing. It was something out of my control. I couldn’t affect the situation.

“After the World Cup I had a long period of getting stick from fans but I get that anyway. That side of thing you can deal with.”

Suffering two heavy blows with club and country in such a short period of time may have broken some men but, instead of sulking, Green decided to head to his local gym.

He sought the help of a Hungarian personal trainer called Anna-Maria, whose speciality is mixed martial arts, to toughen him up — something which may come in handy for QPR’s trip to Millwall tomorrow.

Green said: “I knew at the start of last season it was going to be a frustrating time and I wondered if there was anything I could improve on, develop or change in some way.

“It would have been easy to hide in a corner or finish playing but it’s something I love doing.

“For me I just kept working and believing. Each time you get a knock it’s about bouncing back harder than before.

“I thought a change of scenery, doing fitness work away from people at the club with an expert in the field, would be good.

“So I do three 90-minute sessions a week straight after training, which is two hours, so it ends up as quite a work-out.”

It has certainly paid off. Green’s fortunes have improved at QPR since Harry Redknapp replaced Hughes as coach last November and now he is arguably in the form of his life.

Following Rangers’ relegation from the Premier League, Green was re-instated as first choice in the Championship and he has repaid them by setting a club record of eight successive clean sheets to help them climb to second in the table.

He is not the only one to enjoy a change of fortune as the QPR dressing room is a much happier place from the one that was split by cliques and resentment during their nightmare of last season.

The subject has just been revisited in Redknapp’s new autobiography, with the QPR manager complaining of how toxic it was.

“For us what happened last season, all the problems, we just want to put it behind us now,” said Green. “From the top, middle and bottom of the club, you’d like to think everyone learned some stark lessons.

“The start of the season has helped turn the atmosphere around and not just at home games. We went to Yeovil and more than 2,000 fans were there, whereas we’d go to places like Sunderland last season and there were around 300.

“I think the opening day was a key turning point. We came from behind against Sheffield Wednesday to win. When they went ahead you could hear the whole crowd go ‘oh no, not again’, but we won and it just lifted the mood and everyone wanted to keep that momentum.”

After overcoming such large setbacks, Green will hope he can too. Evening Standard

FORMER QPR CHAIRMAN CHRIS WRIGHT's BOOK COMES OUT TODAY

From The Publishers/Amazon - Chris Wright - One Way or Another: My Life in Music, Sport & Entertainment Hardcover – October 14, 2013

One Way Or Another is multi-millionaire rock, media and sport mogul Chris Wright's explosive autobiography. In it, Wright lifts the veil on the wheeling and dealing that propelled his company Chrysalis to the forefront of the pop industry - and how the fortune he made from rock enabled him to buy Queens Park Rangers FC, Wasps Rugby Club and a fistful of radio stations and TV production companies. Chris Wright signed bands like Jethro Tull and Ten Years After who were at the forefront of the British rock invasion of America that took place in the late sixties and early seventies, then went on to embrace punk with Blondie and Billy Idol, New Romantics with Ultravox and Spandau Ballet, 2-Tone stars The Specials and many more.

In a life story that reads like a Who's Who of the rock business, Wright spares no blushes in telling tales of sex, drugs and financial blowouts that made some rich and left others by the wayside. Ever the entrepreneur, Wright remained at the heart of the unfolding story that has become the contemporary entertainment industry, subsequently taking the Chrysalis brand into TV and radio. But his story goes beyond success in media and entertainment. In later years, Wright went on to own premiership football club Queens Park Rangers and rugby giants Wasps. Interwoven with a personal narrative that has all the twists and turns of a best-selling novel, One Way Or Another is a remarkable, truly gripping story of life at the top. Amazon

STATEMENT REGARDING POSSIBLE QPR MERGER WITH WIMBLEDON FC

In response to todays press speculation the board of Loftus Road makes the following statement:

"It is true that we are in very early stage discussions with Wimbledon Football Club about a possible merger. It is not helpful that the news has leaked as we were intent on exploring the opportunity in a sensible and controlled manner which included sending a letter to all season ticket holders, club members, and shareholders asking them of their opinion and whether the proposal is worth pursuing. Should these discussions continue the questionnaires will be distributed in the near future and we welcome honest and constructive feedback. The talks with Wimbledon will only continue if there is general approval from our supporter base.

Our initial view is that in the current financial environment for football outside the Premier League the idea could have merit and maybe worth exploring further but we must emphasise it is still very early days and no firm agreement whatsoever has been reached. Any merger will clearly be subject to the approval of the Football League, however the nature of the talks have included the possibility of the new Club playing in Division One at Loftus Rd, with the name and colours reflecting elements of both Clubs.

At this time there is little more that can be said until the views of our supporters have been canvassed and a decision is made as to whether to take discussions further or not"

QPR Official Site - April 2, 2001

RANGERS IN ADMINISTRATION

The Board of Loftus Road PLC regrets to inform shareholders and supporters that after consultation with its advisors it has decided that the best course of action to help ensure the Group's longer term survival, is to put the holding company, Loftus Road PLC, and its wholly owned subsidiary The Queens Park Rangers Football and Athletic Club Ltd (QPR), into administration.

This decision has not been taken lightly and is a direct result of the losses incurred by the Group, currently running at £570,000 per month, over a sustained period of time.

The main objective of the Board is not only to ensure the continued operation of QPR and Wasps as professional sports teams in the short term, but to maximise their opportunity for a more prosperous future.

Chris Wright will be honouring his prior commitment to the Group and providing whatever financial support is necessary to ensure the continued running of the Clubs until a long term successor can be found or, initially, until at least the end of October 2001.

Chris Wright said :"It is a very sad day for everyone involved in Loftus Road. The last six months have been a real struggle financially and although my intention was to secure a sale to the right buyer before having to take this decision, it has not been forthcoming. I will continue to fund the day to day running of the Group until the end of the season and help to find a purchaser for QPR and Wasps.

Hopefully the day to day impact on the operation of QPR and Wasps as professional sports teams will be negligible, at least in the short term, and will in fact make the longer term more viable. My support for both Clubs remains undiminished and my greatest wish would be for the right individual with ready funds, energy and ideas to step in and secure their future as soon as possible."

QPR Fan Forum from Seven years ago

QPR OFFICIAL SITE ON FAN FORUM - October 13, 2006 WHAT THEY SAID

There was talk of finances, transfers and even tears at Thursday evening's Fans Forum.

Hosted by BBC London's Tom Watt, Chairman Gianni Paladini and gaffer John Gregory answered a series of questions in front of an audience of 100 QPR fans.

Here's a selection of what they said...

JG on his group of players: I really couldn't have asked anything more from them. They've worn the shirt with pride and they've done themselves and the Club very proud indeed so far. Without wanting to get carried away, I'd say they've been first class.

GP on the John Gregory appointment: We were in a desperate situation after the defeat to Port Vale. I was looking for a reaction from the players at Vale Park but there was nothing, so we needed to make a change. I've known John for years and I'm convinced it's a fantastic appointment for the Club and for him. The two results since he arrived have been fantastic and the morale within the whole Club has lifted.

GP on the gaffers tears: I walked into his office an hour or so after the Hull victory and he was sitting in his office in pitch dark with a bottle of beer. There were tears rolling down his face and that's when I realised just how much this Club meant to him.

JG on his tears: That afternoon was a two finger salute to the rest of the footballing world bar QPR. It was me saying 'go and do one the lot of you.' It was a huge day for me and things have gone from strength to strength ever since.

JG on the future: I honestly believe that the 24 Club's in this division are fighting a relegation battle. I spent the day with Dave Jones (Cardiff manager) on Wednesday and even though they're riding high at the top of the table, he's still focused on getting to the magical 52 point barrier. No Club can afford to go down - the financial implications are just too great. There's no reason why can't dream of a return to the Premiership, but it's just a question of time. With the right kind of infrastructure we can achieve our goals.

GP on finances: Since this board took over here last September we've paid £14m of bills, creditors and loans to the club. The directors, they will take no interest back on this until the club can afford it. If things go badly then we lose our money. When we first took over last September we paid £4.9m to creditors straight away - we county courts, winding up orders and creditors that I didn't know about left right and centre. Without the directors we'd have gone into administration right then. This summer we've got some money from Danny shiteeetu and another £600k coming from that in August next year. We got £750k from Danny to spend on £500k on Blackstock, £200k on Rehman, Stewart and Nicky Ward. Then we paid £250k to Charlton as part of their, you know, and 5% to the Football League and the rest went straight to the tax man. The problem is, if you say to people we desperately need this money they won't give you a million, they won't even give you half a million. We're £1.2m down on season tickets which hasn't helped cash-flow, but I'm not worried. If we can be successful under John people will come back and the cash-flow will increase.

JG three weeks in: The last three weeks have been a dream. I've lad to pinch myself at times. All the staff are pulling together in the right direction, yet despite two wins on the spin, we need to keep our feet on the ground.

JG on transfers: I've looked at the squad and we've got 35 players, which is far, far too many. It's not there fault but we need to make some drastic changes. The playing staff needs to be reduced as soon as is possible and we need to improve the strength in depth in terms of our overall quality. Maybe if we can get one or two out on loan - to join the three already of course - then we can do a few deals in January. There are 16 or 17 lads here that are more than good enough to not only keep us in this league but to push on and finish in the top half of it. Keeping them fit isn't easy of course - we've got eight games in 30 days coming up. We may have a little money to spend in the transfer window and we are targeting Premiership clubs in the vicinity for loans

GP on AKUTR'S: I didn't take this man to court. People think I take people to court because the coffee is too cold. There was nothing in the Evening Standard about our win at Southampton, not one line, but there was a big report on the police. We took action against them last season and won and they don't like us because we beat them. The magazine, I never said I would take them to court, I wanted a chance to respond to serious things that were said about me in that magazine, he never had the decency to get in touch with me for a discussion and my side, I'm talking about the journalist here not the man who edits the magazine. If you don't do anything about this, you're guilty. The allegations he made against me are wrong. If they are true then I shouldn't be the chairman. If they are right I'd resign tomorrow.
