Blackpool vs QPR Tonight
Kaspar Gorkss' QPR travel to Ian Evatt & Danny Nardiello's Blackpool tonight. Blackpool's Squad...Blackpool's Results...Blackpool's home record is 4 wins, 5 draws, 5 defeats - (Scored 17; conceded 19)Championship Table.
LEE CAMP SET TO START
London Informer/Paul Warburton - Lee Camp to get in goal for QPR at Blackpool
Lee Camp is ready to pull on the QPR goalkeepers’ jersey at Blackpool tonight for the first time in five months.
The England U21 player steps into the breach vacated by Radek Cerny, who has pulled a hamstring in training.
Camp’s one-and-only previous appearance for the Hoops this term was a 3-2 Carling Cup win against Swindon in August.
But because Cerny had already been inked in as the number one, Camp went on loan to Nottingham Forest for three months where he helped them climb out of the relegation zone.
However, a permanent deal foundered when Forest were not prepared to meet anything like Rs’ £1m valuation for the Derby-born player. London Informer
Blackpool Gazette/Steve Canavan - 27 January 2009
- MAKESHIFT frontman Gary Taylor-Fletcher – who will tonight keep Liverpool's Krisztian Nemeth out of the starting line up – has called on his team-mates to beat moneybags QPR and do it for the bosses.
- Caretaker bosses Tony Parkes and Steve Thompson got a first victory by beating Birmingham.
And a second win in four days – which could lift Pool to 13th place, their highest position since victory over Watford at the start of November – would make it a perfect week for the management team.
"All the lads are right behind Tony and Thommo and we've been doing the right things both on and off the pitch," said Taylor-Fletcher.
"We've played well enough and bar a crazy five minutes at Coventry we would have been unbeaten in the league for quite a while.
"It's up to the chairman what he does regards the long term but I know all the lads are right behind the current managers.
"I hope the chairman makes the right decision but we think it is going well and we're happy with the way it is.
"I think what was important after Simon Grayson went was that all the regular lads, plus the regular coaches, remained – so it's the same people.
"It's not one of those where the manager has been a failure and has been sacked.
"So there was no bickering or anything – it's the same set of lads who have just got on with it and not much has changed really.
"Training has got a bit more intense and we've worked on a few more things, and I think we look quite dangerous on the things we've worked at.
"The win on Saturday was a big boost for us.
"It was crucial we got a win from one of these two home games we had and it's a big bonus that we did it in the first.
"We hadn't won for quite a while and we wanted to get a win on the board for Tony and Thommo."
"Obviously the pressure was on them but now the pressure will be right off all of us.
"We've got that little bit of a gap again now and the three points are there for the taking tonight." Blackpool Gazette

Zesh Rehman Talking About Bradford
This is Lancashire - 'First and foremost I’m here to play football'
- Zesh Rehman believes his presence at City can attract more Asian fans to Valley Parade.
But the QPR defender, who ignored other Championship interest to sign for the rest of the season, insists he has dropped down two divisions for football reasons.
Omar Khan, the club’s new Asian ambassador, was involved in Rehman’s talks with City. The Pakistan national skipper appreciates the significance of his arrival but said: “First and foremost I’m here to play football.
“The most important thing is about what happens on the pitch. I’ve got no problems with speaking to the community and helping in that way but it’s down to how I do in matches.
“I’m well aware of the Asian community around the club and hopefully I can encourage more to come along. For me, football is the perfect vehicle to bring communities together.”
Birmingham-born Rehman became the first player of Asian origin to appear in the Premiership when he made his Fulham debut at Liverpool in 2004. He played for England from under-17s to under-20s before opting to represent Pakistan at senior level.
With Rehman on board, City have allowed Mark Bower to join Luton on a month’s loan.
Rehman has worked under SEVEN different managers since joining QPR in August 2006.
He admitted: “It is unsettling because you want stability at a club. I had spells when I was a regular in the team, then a new manager would come in with different ideas and his own players and change it all round. It was hard to get established.”
Rehman, who also had a frustrating loan spell at Blackpool, added: “I was only prepared to drop down the leagues to play for this club.
“I spoke to the manager and chairmen and I know they want to get Bradford back up to where they belong. I’ve been involved in relegation battles in the past and it’s nice to be joining a club pushing for promotion – that’s a good pressure to have.”
Rehman, who goes straight into the squad at Bury tonight, is out of contract in the summer.
Stuart McCall said: “Zesh has played at a good level and comes recommended. With TJ (Moncur) going out, we were looking for somebody who can play right back and in the middle.” ...This is Lancashire

MARKING ONE DECADE AGO TODAY: QPR's MOST-EXPENSIVE SIGNING, MIKE SHERON DEPARTS QPR
On July 1st, 1997, after oubidding Birmingham, QPR's Stuart Houston paid a record fee of some 2.7 million pounds for Stoke's forward, Mike Sheron. Sheron was QPR's last big signing before they went into financial free fall. Joining up with John Spencer and Trevor Sinclair (and a recovering Kevin Gallen), the "on paper" unbeatable forward line, looked a good for promotion. Unfortunately not!
Some 18 months later, after 56 league games and 13 goals, Gerry Francis sold him to Barnsley for 1 million pounds plus (in part to cut down on QPR wages).

- MIKE SHERON has joined Barnsley in a £1.5 million transfer deal. R's director of football Gerry Francis says:"Mike has been sold for financial reasons. But I knew about the financial situation when I rejoined the club. So the transfer was not unexpected. At the end of the day, we have to safeguard the future of QPR in the long term.".
QPR Official Site - CHAIRMAN ON SHERON TRANSFER
- RANGERS chairman Chris Wright has revealed the details behind Mike Sheron's £1.5 million transfer to Barnsley.
- Mr Wright said:" Obviously I’m disappointed to lose a player of Mike’s ability. But unfortunately he was on a very, very high salary. We paid a Premier League transfer fee to buy him and we gave him Premier League wages to come to the club.
- "So the wage structure that the player was on meant we were prepared to let him move on elsewhere. With the salary that we were paying Mike Sheron, we should be able to afford to bring up to four other good players into the club and still have change left over."

[Sinclair] Wonder Goal -- Sinclair Goal Video
Reposting an July 2006 When Saturday Comes (WSC) article re QPR's 1976/76 Season
July 2006 - When Saturday Comes, from 2006
As good as it got Queens Park Rangers 1975-76
Queens Park Rangers 1975-76
- Thirty years ago a west London club very nearly won the title – and it would have been a popular success, too. Graham Dunbar recalls QPR's finest 42 games
- It is April 17, 2006, Easter Monday, and Queens Park Rangers lose 3-2 at Norwich in the definitive meaningless and mediocre end-of-season game. Two teams playing second-rate, second-tier football in what could be the worst five-goal affair anyone has seen; a match with no significance beyond reminding both clubs that the Premiership is a distant dream.
- Flip back 30 years and it is April 17, 1976, Easter Saturday in the old Division One, and QPR again lose 3-2 at Carrow Road, with rather more at stake. On a blazing hot holiday weekend, the top-flight title is on the line and, if you buy even slightly into the arguments of chaos theory, the future of European club football is about to be shaped.
- A hugely popular QPR team would lose the title by a single point to Liverpool, who, trophyless the previous year, would beat Wolves in a controversial last game, finish the season by winning the UEFA Cup and, 12 months later, hoist the European Cup for the first time. For want of a win in Norfolk, chaos theory says, the Reds’ rule over Europe was allowed to happen.
- Gerry Francis was Rangers captain in a season that kicked off with a 2-0 defeat of Liverpool at Loftus Road. He was their inspiration during a glorious final 15-match run of 13 wins, a draw and that single defeat on the penultimate Saturday. Francis would recall: “Those points lost at Norwich could have been the difference. You can’t believe we lost the game.”
- The game has lost plenty in the last three decades. Comparing the state of our football nation in 1976 with today is fairly banal and pointless, but let’s have a go – what QPR achieved perhaps compares with what Wigan did for the first half of this season.
- A decade before becoming every neutral’s delight, QPR had meandered round 15 home grounds and settled in Division Three when Jim Gregory, a real-life Arthur Daley before the fictional one, joined the board. Money began to be spent, on Les Allen, a Double-winner at Tottenham, and Rodney Marsh from Fulham – the start of a series of raids on London rivals that served Rangers spectacularly well.
- Alec Stock’s side won Division Three in 1967 at a stroll, just weeks after leaping into the nation’s living rooms in maybe the best League Cup final of all, the first at Wembley, before a live television audience – when that actually meant something. First Division West Bromwich Albion’s 2-0 half-time lead was brushed aside by goals from Roger Morgan, Marsh after a mazy dribble and Mark Lazarus.
- Another promotion the next year just set up QPR as the next Northampton Town, for a debut top-flight season even Sunderland fans would count as disappointing. But Gordon Jago arrived and built his 1972-73 promotion team by selling Marsh and gambling on the genius of Stan Bowles. A procession of apprentices were blended with wise old heads such as Frank McLintock, two years on from leading Arsenal to the Double, then David Webb (whose barrel chest hardly suited being wrapped in hoops) and John Hollins, downsized from Chelsea to Shepherd’s Bush.
- When Jago went early in 1974-75, another King’s Road refugee, Dave Sexton, spent most of his first season in charge dealing with Bowles’s tantrums and assembling a midfield even Stan would be mad to turn away from. Francis started and bare-shinned winger Dave Thomas came on in Don Revie’s first England game – a 3-0 qualifying group win against eventual European champions Czechoslovakia – and full-backs Dave Clement and Ian Gillard soon joined them. At Revie’s time of greatest need, the World Cup qualifier in Italy in November 1976, he turned to Bowles. (It didn’t work, but that’s not the point.)
- Francis was 23 when Revie made him captain after humiliating Scotland in 1975. “Just to get in the England team you were competing with Bell, Ball, Hudson, Brooking and Currie for just two places in midfield. It was an honour for a QPR player to be England captain.” Gerry announced his authority with the goal of the season past Ray Clemence as Rangers started the season by beating Liverpool; Stan weighed in with a hat-trick in a 5-1 demolition of Derby County, the reigning champions, a week later.
- Quite how and why QPR did not win the title is a football tragedy. They were the best and most entertaining team, were unbeaten at home, never slumped and beat every side in the division except West Ham. Frankly, Norwich fans should be ashamed of their club – and their good fortune on the day – for spiking Rangers’ champagne.
- Francis has a vivid recall of the game that should be disturbing in a grown man with a long and successful career, and is actually painful to hear. “We totally dominated but you have games where nothing seems to go right. In the first half I was sent through by Stan and lobbed Kevin Keelan from 25, 30 yards but it landed on top of the net. Keelan made a couple of great saves from me.” Match reports detail Keelan, himself a loveable Seventies maverick, laughing when a close-range Webb header hit him and bounced away.
- At the other end, a ludicrous mix-up gifted Ted McDougall a goal before a manically determined Thomas equalised. While Liverpool were beating Stoke City 5-3 at Anfield, Norwich scored two more – a fluke shot from Peter Morris and Phil Boyer’s header while offside – before giving Rangers a late own goal.
- Rangers finished with home wins against Arsenal and then Leeds on the last Saturday, as Liverpool put their feet up while John Toshack played for Wales in a European Championship quarter-final against Yugoslavia. Ten days later, Francis and co watched in a Thames TV studio as Liverpool struck three times in the last 13 minutes at Molineux.
- “The bad taste in our mouth wasn’t necessarily from losing the Norwich game, though people point the finger at it, but the way Liverpool didn’t have to play their last game on the same day. They should have played under the same pressure – we were in a television studio watching our season slip away. When Kevin Keegan scored most of us walked out.”
- The last hurrah for Sexton’s side was a goal-strewn run to the UEFA Cup quarter-finals, before losing on penalties at AEK Athens, while Liverpool took the European Cup road leading to Rome and immortality against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
- Francis says: “We could have gone a long way in the European Cup. We played the sort of football that was equipped for European competition, but there’s no doubt Liverpool were an outstanding side. Quality-wise, we were a match for Liverpool, but they could strengthen and we were a small, selling club.”
- So QPR almost matched the Derby side of 1972 in winning the league three seasons after getting promoted. In 1978 Nottingham Forest would do it a year after coming up in third spot. Instead, Rangers joined Ipswich Town at club level and Holland on the world stage as vibrant sides in the total football era who fell just short of a defining triumph but are all the more beloved for it. “Everyone says QPR were their second-favourite team at that time, a nice, family club – like Ipswich and Norwich – who were consistent and could beat anybody on their day,” says Francis.
- A generation on and a world away, QPR, Derby and Ipswich are all mired in the second division having spent parts of the 21st century in administration. And whatever happened to Liverpool in Europe? WSC

WSC

"ON THIS DAY" FLASHBACKS:
No China Game at Loftus Road
Two years ago today, after reports in the press that QPR would be play a friendly against China, the club issued a denial: "Correction: The Club has had it brought to its attention that Ceefax and Teletext are reporting a game between QPR and China on February 8. We would like to confirm that no such fixture is taking place at Loftus Road and we have already asked both parties to remove the story. No China Game."
Of course the subsequent QPR-China Training ground scrimmage truly was "The Shot heard around the world!"

RANGERS RISING
I commented recently on the improvement you will see from QPR after our owners finally opened the chequebook and our win at Derby says something. I reckon Reading and Birmingham will take the automatics with Wolves and Preston definites for the play-offs. Then any two from Sheff Utd, Crystal Palace, Cardiff and QPR. What do you reckon Peter? Can QPR get there? Darryl Garvey (Queens Park Rangers fan)
PETER REPLIES: At the start of the season we all thought they were going to sign some well-known players but that hasn't really happened. They've gone for experienced Championship players and they haven't signed a Championship-level 'Robinho' despite the wealth of their owners.
I don't think they do have what it takes to reach the play-offs unless there is an influx of players in January. They'll be hoping that win at Derby is a turning point but I think there are better sides in the division. I was hoping they'd find a more fluent style under their new manager but they still play with one striker at times and they do struggle to score goals. They are solid at the back but for all the glamour attached to the club, there has been a lack of entertainment on the pitch.
I agree with some of the other clubs you mention though Darryl. The top two will definitely come from Wolves, Birmingham and Reading. Sheffield United look the part at the moment and along with Preston they are the form side in the Championship. I think that leaves one play-off spot and I'd say teams like Burnley and Crystal Palace are far better than QPR. You can also throw Cardiff into the mix who have drawn a lot of games, along with Swansea who I also believe are stronger than QPR. I feel Rangers will need significant improvement if they are to beat those teams to a play-off spot. Skysports

Hunter told www.qpr.co.uk: "In terms of recovery time, unfortunately we're talking months rather than weeks - we're hoping it will be around the three-month mark.
"We have already had a review with the surgeon, who is happy with the early progress he is making.

Football League - BASE BUILDING AT QPR
- Restoring Queens Park Rangers to the Premiership is the aim of recently appointed manager Paulo Sousa, but despite his attacking instincts the former Portugal midfielder is intent on building steadily rather than taking a gung-ho approach to promotion.- Two months after Sousa's arrival at what is one of the richest clubs in the world following the 2007 take-over led by Formula 1 millionaire Flavio Briatore, QPR sit eighth in the Coca-Cola Championship table, three points below the Play-Off places.
- And that position, for the time being at least reckons the manager, is okay as long as progress is being made. "It's good to stay close to the Play-Offs," says Sousa, "because you can look at targets and that gives more motivation and ambition.
- "But the most important thing is to create a good base to achieve those targets - to build a team that can compete in each stadium we have to play at and to create a good style of play for the fans to enjoy."
- "I believe in playing positive, attacking football, but to achieve positive results you have to maintain a focused outlook and my team will aim to do this, both for ourselves and for the fans as well."
-Sousa knows all about good styles of play having been a classy midfielder who earned 51 international caps and twice won the Champions League - with Juventus and Borussia Dortmund - as well as starring for Benfica and Inter Milan.
- After his playing career was prematurely ended through injury he was appointed to the coaching staff of the Portuguese national team under the then head coach - and now Chelsea manager - Luiz Felipe Scolari.
- So it was with quite a pedigree that Sousa started his first managerial job last November. Results to date have been mixed, but his first away win - at Derby County last Saturday - brought delight as well as encouragement for the manager.
- Four days earlier the Hoops had lost their FA Cup third round replay at Burnley, whose winner arrived in the last minute of extra time, so to bounce back with what could be a crucial away win was very important says Sousa.
- "When you lose a game over 120 minutes, creating a lot of opportunities and deserving to win but then not winning, psychology comes in - players can get down and it's not easy to handle this," notes Sousa.
- "But my players told me they would give me their answer and they showed big personality to win (at Derby). To play so well and to get the result means that all the hard work we've been doing for the last two months is beginning to pay off." Football League

London Informer/Paul Warburton - QPR set sights on Caleb Folan
- QPR have turned their attentions to Hull City's Caleb Folan as the last part of an attacking jigsaw.
Rs boss Paulo Sousa believes he only needs one more option up front - and wants the out-of-favour Irish international to plug the gap.
Folan started the season by notching the winner in his side's opening day 2-1 victory over Fulham, but has since been restricted to a watching brief from the Tigers bench - getting only one Premiership start doing the 26-year-old no favours at all. Hull were whacked 5-0 at home to Wigan at the end of August.
But Sousa wants his club to have another go at getting a player manager Phil Brown wanted to hang onto when Rangers asked the question last summer.
Folan would come on loan initially, and if things worked out would sign permanently for somewhere around the £1m Hull paid for his services when he joined from Wigan in A ugust, 2007.
But a Hoops insider revealed there would be no further chasing Leroy Lita at Reading.
The striker is priced at £1.3m, but Hoops will keep their money in their pockets both for he and Southampton keeper Kelvin Davies - also linked with the club this week in an apparent £1m switch.
The source said: "Lita wants to see where he is with Reading at the end of the season. And as it stands Rangers have two top keepers. Even if Lee Camp eventually leaves, the club can get an emergency keeper on loan should it be necessary." London Informer

Chicago Tribune/Luis Arroyave - Matt Pickens returns to MLS
Goalkeeper learns from frustrating stint in England
- Second-tier English club Queens Park Rangers released the former Fire goalkeeper in May and he had hoped to catch on with another European team once his separated shoulder healed. He spent three months trying out for different European clubs between August and November but had no luck.
- "It was tough to be on trial on and off," said Pickens, whose rights the Fire traded to Colorado during the Jan. 15 MLS draft. "You would train one week and be off another. There wasn't much consistency. It definitely was not fun. But it's not supposed to be."
- Pickens had other options, but they would have required assistance from his former MLS club.
- "I knew there was interest in MLS," Pickens said. "But it was like, 'Great. I can't do anything until Chicago trades my rights.' They weren't going to give them away free."
- Eventually the Fire sent Pickens' rights and its second-round pick (No. 28 overall) to the Rapids for their second-round pick (No. 20) and allocation money.
- The 26-year-old keeper is excited about playing home games at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, one of MLS' newest stadiums, and he is looking forward to seeing what sort of playing style new coach Gary Smith brings to the team.
- Would Pickens have liked to play for the Fire again?
- "I would have been interested if they had been interested," he said.
- As for Europe, he admits he would like to return some day.
- "I would go back if I could," Pickens said. "But I probably wouldn't sign if it's to sit on the bench."
- Pickens joined Queens Park in February but failed to play a minute in his brief time with the club. Although it was frustrating, he believes he learned from the experience.
- "I learned about life in general," said Pickens, who now is training with the U.S. national team. "I learned how to get knocked down and get back up."

Sky Sports Leigertwood happy at QPR -Midfielder rejects Wolves and Bolton talk
QPR star Mikele Leigertwood insists he is happy to stay at Loftus Road despite being linked with a move away from the club.
Wolves and Bolton have both been strongly linked with the former Crystal Palace and Sheffield United midfielder in this month's transfer window.
Leigertwood has played down the speculation and says he is happy with life at QPR.
"There has been a bit in the paper about whether I am going or not," Leigertwood told the club's official website.
"But I have been told that I am not going anywhere and I do not really want to go anywhere. So as long as people are happy to keep me here then I am happy to stay.
"When I came I knew what was going to happen. Probably people wanted it to happen quicker than it is but these things take time.
"But it is an exciting project that I want to be part of." SkySports

London Informer/Jacob Murtagh - Paulo Sousa rotation wins support of QPR players
- QPR boss Paulo Sousa's insistence on a rotation policy has found whole-hearted support from his troops - even if they're on the end of his chopping and changing.
The Portugese boss has yet to field the same QPR starting XI twice in a row. Admittedly, injuries have also played their part, but the manager's insistence on fielding the freshest side available has won over Kaspar Gorkss.
Five players were axed from the starting XI for the Boxing Day draw at Charlton, and he rung the changes again at Watford two days later and for the FA Cup home draw with Burnley.
Gorkss starred over the festive period, but was still bombed out for the Boxing Day trip to Vicarage Road before returning for the shut-out against the Clarets.
But the Latvian international played all 90 minutes in the heartening 2-0 away win at Derby on Saturday.
He said: "I think the new manager wants to have a look at what he's got. He's said he wants to use every player, and we have four good centre-backs, so it's good competition.
"If you have two games in three days you need to rest somebody and I don't mind that.
"As a footballer you want to play games, but we have a big squad and the boss wants to see everyone in action." London Informer

Owning a sports team is seen by some as the ultimate status symbol and recently more and more families have been getting in on the act. Here we present our very own Top 10 family-owned sports teams, ranked according to a combination of length of ownership and sporting success or, in some cases, potential. On your marks, set, go!
1. New York Yankees
Depending on who you talk to, it's either the most loved or most deeply reviled team in Major League Baseball, and it's owned by one of the sport's most outspoken and controversial figures — billionaire George Steinbrenner (pictured, left, with former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani at the Yankees' 2000 World Series victory parade). The son of American shipping magnate Henry Steinbrenner, George bought the club in 1973, making him the longest club owner in history. Under his ownership, the team has garnered six World Series titles and is home to some of the most famous faces in baseball. Since 2006 George has spent most of his time in Florida, leaving the running of the club to his two sons, Hal and Hank.
2. Ellerston polo
Named after the family's country estate in Eastern Australia, the team was originally run by Australian media mogul Kerry Packer. Since his death, his son James has taken over the reins. Earlier this year, in a closely played final, Ellerston claimed a record-breaking sixth Queen's Cup win. James followed in his father's footsteps, accepting the trophy from Queen Elizabeth II. Ellerston had previously won the trophy in 1991, '92, '96,'98 and '99.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Rooney family has owned this storied American football team for 75 years and has been a fixture in the upper echelons of the NFL since 1933. Present chairman/owner Dan, founder Art's eldest son, is currently trying to buy his four brother's shares to ensure the family keeps hold of the team. The team has won five Super Bowls Championships (most recently in 2005) and plays at Heinz Field (sponsored by Pittsburgh's venerable Heinz family company).
4. Manchester Utd FC
The world's second richest football team with a value of $388 million is owned by America's Glazer family who purchased the club in 2005. However, the ride was far from smooth as supporters reacted with outrage and a minority set up a rival club in protest. However, winning the English Premiership and European Champion's League last season has silenced the protests for now.
5. Detroit Red Wings
Detroit native Mike Ilitch founded the pizza delivery chain Little Caesars in 1959 but in the sports arena he's best known as owner of ice hockey's Detroit Red Wings and baseball's Detroit Tigers. He bought the Red Wings in 1982 for $8 million and it is now one of the most valuable franchises in the National Hockey League. Under Ilitch, the Red Wings have made the division championships 14 times and raised the Stanley Cup (the league's championship trophy) four times, most notably beating the Pittsburgh Penguins last season.
6. Toronto Blue Jays
Canada-based baseball team the Toronto Blue Jays have been owned by the Rogers family since 2000. The owners, the family behind Rogers communications, also bought the Jays' stadium for $21 million in 2004. They are the first and only team outside the US to win a World Series, the first team to win a World Series in Canada, and the fastest American League expansion franchise to win a World Series.
7. Mumbai Indians
In January Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani pipped his brother Anil to the purchase of this cricket team that helped launch the new Indian Premier League. Revolutionary in the traditional world of cricket, the IPL promises incredible riches as it looks to capitalise on India's number one sport. Captained by India's biggest sporting star Sachin Tendulker, Ambani has assured himself of some fantastic exposure.
8. QPR FC
Another English football team and the newest entry on the list. Currently in the league below the Premier League, the west London club was saved from bankruptcy earlier this year when a consortium led by Formula One pairing Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone were joined by the financial muscle of the Mittal family, owners of steel giant Arcelor Mittal. One to watch.
9. New York Knicks
James Dolan's father, Charles, founded the telecommunications, media and entertainment company Cablevision in 1973. Now James serves as president and CEO of the company but is also the proud owner of basketball's New York Knicks, ice hockey's New York Rangers, and their shared home, Madison Square Gardens. The Knicks are considered the most valuable basketball franchise in the US, valued at around $608 million. However, the team has yet to replicate its financial success on the hardwood and hasn't won a championship since it was purchased by Dolan.
10. South Sydney Rabbitohs
In Australian Rugby League, the saying goes "When Souths are going well, Rugby League is going well". One of only two remaining founding members of the country's original league, the Rabbitohs have won 20 first grade premierships since their establishment in 1908. In 2006, Peter Holmes à Court, the son of the late billionaire businessman Robert Holmes à Court, and Hollywood actor Russell Crowe bought the team, which most recently made the semi-final playoffs in the 2007 season.
