Club gets go-ahead to progress plans for new training ground ...

QUEENS Park Rangers football club is delighted to confirm it has been given the go ahead to progress its plans for a state-of-the-art training ground facility at the Warren Farm site.

At a meeting this evening (Wednesday 24th April), Ealing Councillors voted in favour of granting planning permission for the club's proposal to build a full multi-purpose Elite Training Facility and Community Sports Complex on the Warren Farm site.

It is intended that works will begin in the coming months, with the facility set to be ready ahead of the 2015/16 season.

QPR CEO Philip Beard told www.qpr.co.uk: “This is a landmark day for Queens Park Rangers Football Club.

“We are hugely grateful for the support shown by all parties, especially the local residents, who we hope will benefit extensively from the range of facilities and activities that will become available over the course of the coming years.

“There is a lot of hard work ahead of us as we finalise the design details and tendering of the project, but today’s news is a massive step forward and a significant milestone for the club.”

The Elite Training Facility will house the entire football department, including our thriving Academy.

It will provide: grass pitches for the first team and academy, an indoor 3G pitch, an outdoor 3G artificial pitch, extensive gym, sports science and rehabilitation areas, Academy classrooms, a large number of changing rooms, media, catering and grounds maintenance facilities.

The Community Sports Complex will use the extensive experience of QPR in the Community Trust to develop participation programmes and forge stronger and deeper local connections.

QPR in the Community Trust will create a progressive programme of sporting, educational and social activities, leading to enhanced life experiences for Ealing residents and its neighbourhoods.

The facility will encourage participation in sport and will promote healthy and active lifestyles in a purpose built and safe environment.

The new site - explained

The Warren Farm site will be developed into a full multi-purpose First Class Professional Elite Training Facility and Community Sports Complex, which will incorporate state-of-the-art facilities.

These facilities will be used by both our professional and academy footballers, as well as the community, and echo our ethos of being ‘more than just a Football Club.’

The development will be designed to meet the Club’s professional training requirements, and will meet the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) Category 1 criteria, with a layout of natural and artificial training pitches and grids. These facilities will provide a platform for the development of home grown talent.

Community facilities will be developed in line with Sport England and National Governing Bodies standards. The community facilities and community development programme will be managed by QPR in the Community Trust.

We see this element of the proposal as a true partnership with the council, local sports clubs and wider community users.

The community will have some of the best facilities for people of all ages and levels of ability to participate in a wide variety of sports including football, rugby, cricket, basketball and netball. Sporting programmes and activities led by professionally qualified coaches will be implemented, and will include input and appearances from professional players from QPR.

The development will incorporate Secured by Design recommendations and will meet with the Council’s Sports Strategy and public sports participation targets. QPR

GREAT SUPPORT - POLLOCK'S MISERY

RANGERS had a large and noisy following at Manchester City on Saturday. The club's offer of free travel to season ticket holders and members resulted in 11 coaches being filled. A total of 1959 R's fans attended the game.

The Rangers goals were greeted with a spirited chorus of "Stand up if you’re staying up..." as the whole Superhoop contingent rose en masse. And the travelling fans stayed inside Maine Road for nearly half an hour after the game to sing their anthems of celebration.
Boss Ray Harford said:"Our fans have been absolutely fantastic since I’ve taken over. I’m really pleased for them that we got the result we needed at Maine Road. And I’d like to thank all the supporters for their loyalty, because we wouldn’t have been able to get the results we've picked up recently without the tremendous backing we've received from the fans."

MANCHESTER CITY captain Jamie Pollock scored the most spectacular own goal in the history of QPR in Saturday’s crucial clash!

Let’s savour the details! The goal came in the 22nd minute after Kevin Gallen chased Dave Bardsley’s long ball out of defence. Pollock stepped in to intercept and deftly flicked the ball over Gallen’s head with Brazilian-style arrogance. He then followed up to send a bullet header looping over the advancing Margetson from nearly 25-yards. The ball bounced once before bulging the net right in front of the ecstatic travelling R's fans.
It was the most dramatic own goal for Rangers since Aston Villa’s Keith Bradley applied the finishing touch to put the R’s into the First Division for the first time in their history at the end of the 1967/8 season. Bradley was actually kissed by two QPR players after his 82nd minute intervention gave the Superhoops a 2-1 advantage at Villa Park!

DRAW GIVES RAY RELIEF

BOSS Ray Harford was in jubilant mood after the draw at Manchester City, as Rangers secured First Division safety courtesy of the 2-2 draw.

Ray said:"I’m very relieved. It was a very entertaining game and a bit too open for the heart at times. We looked dangerous on the counter-attack and so did they, to be fair. We showed terrific spirit and character to bounce back from the early goal. But the players I have brought in have added those qualities to the team. They are real men.
"Our fans were fantastic once again. I’m really pleased for them that we are now safe."

EXPERIENCE IS KEY - BOSS

BOSS Ray Harford feels that the experience of his senior players and the backing of the Rangers supporters will be crucial in Saturday's big game at Manchester City.

Ray says:"We don’t fear anybody. We’ve been going away from home and playing three forwards, so I don’t think that should change. We’re ready for the battle. It is important to have people in the team who can handle the occasion as well as the game. I’m very pleased with Vinnie Jones and Neil Ruddock in particular, as they've strengthened us emotionally, physically and football-wise as well.
"If we get a draw or a win on Saturday, we’re safe. It’s as simple as that. I’d also like to say a great big thank you to the supporters who’ve been following us recently. Without your backing, we wouldn’t have been able to get the points we’ve been picking up."

Team News...Karl Ready is suspended, whilst Tony Scully is unable to play under the terms of his transfer from Man City.
RANGERS will have a large and noisy following at Manchester City on Saturday. The club’s offer of free travel to season ticket holders and members has resulted in 11 coaches being filled. And nearly 2000 match tickets have been sold to Rangers supporters. It's an all ticket match and no more free transport is available.

BRIATORE SPEAKS

London 24- Briatore: My time at QPR was a ‘disaster’ but I stand by my manager sackings

Tuesday, April 23, 2013
9:33 AM
Former QPR chairman Flavio Briatore has described his time at the helm of the Loftus Road outfit as a ‘disaster’
The Italian bought the Loftus Road outfit in 2007 and sold his stake in 2010.
His time in charge of the R’s was traumatic and managers came and went on a regular basis.
It was not a happy time for him away from football as the Renault F1 team had started to struggle and in 2008 Nelson Piquet Junior deliberately crashed at the Singapore Grand Prix to help his then team-mate Fernando Alonso win the race.
For this act he was banned from F1 for life, although that was overturned on appeal.
While the ban was in place the Football League wanted information as his ban may have placed him in breach of the ‘fit and proper persons’ test.
With all this controversy, the Italian decided to sell his stake in QPR to his original partner and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
The Italian stepped back temporarily and, although Rangers reached the Premier League in 2011, in-fighting at boardroom level cast a shadow on that achievement.
In August 2011 Briatore sold the club to Tony Fernandes and has now admitted that he didn’t enjoy his time in English football.
“Not at all!” he told F1 Racing magazine. “It was a disaster.
“There was a lot of talk and people writing things that were wrong.
“We took QPR from the bottom of the championship. There was a four-year plan and we took them into the Premier League. I don’t understand the fuss. We did it with not much money.
“After Bernie and I went away leaving Mr Lakshmi Mittal and Mr Tony Fernandes to run the show and spend a lot of money, it’s funny to see they still have six or seven players who were with us in the championship.
“I believe we did it quite well but, I tell you, it was no fun at all.
“You need to treat football like a full-time job and not like an investor.
“There were too many people; the manager, the assistant manager and, awlways, you were dealing with the agents. In the end, we sold it.”
During Briatore’s first two-and-a-half years at Loftus Road, Rangers had six full-time managers and four caretakers.
After stepping down as chairman, the R’s brought in Neil Warnock as manager and he guided them to the Premier League.
But the Italian does not regret hiring and firing those managers.
“If you don’t fire these coaches, you never go up,” he explained. “When you understand someone is not good enough to do the job, it’s better you fire them immediately rather than waste another six months.
“I felt we were going nowhere with these guys. In the end, we made it. The most important thing in sport is the result.”

SOUTH KOREA...

http://english.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2013/04/23/2013042301091.htmlQueens Park Rangers to Tour Korea This Summer

Park Ji-sung and Korean teammate Yun Suk-young will join their English Premier League club Queens Park Rangers on a Korean tour from July 16 to 25. On July 19, QPR will play local side Gyeongnam FC in a friendly match.

The Korean club held a press conference in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province on Monday, and said, "We agreed to hold a friendly with QPR on condition that Park and Yun will definitely play."

While the venue has yet to be confirmed, the most likely option is Gyeongnam's home stadium, Changwon Football Center. QPR will also likely hold a friendly with a foreign team here during the tour.

Korean fans' attention remains pinned on what lies in store for Park as the Rangers, with just four games left this season, are sitting 19th out of 20 teams in the league with a paltry 24 points from four wins, 12 draws and 18 losses. As relegation to the second-tier Championship now seems inevitable, players that command higher salaries may find themselves at greater risk of being traded to other teams.

"Even if Park gets traded to another team before the friendly, it has been agreed that he will not move on before the match is held," Gyeongnam owner Ahn Jong-bok said on Monday, hinting that the game could be Park's last for QPR.

Liverpool Echo -

QPR supporter accused of stabbing Everton fan after a match remanded in custody

By Steve Graves
Apr 22 2013

A QUEENS Park Rangers supporter accused of stabbing an Everton fan after a match was remanded in custody.

Leon Hughes, 24, appeared before magistrates at North Liverpool Community Justice Centre today.

Hughes, of Eastleigh Walk, London, is accused of attacking Nikolas Lintott with a small saw known as a pad saw as fans left the area around Goodison Park after the Blues' 2-0 win over relegation-threatened QPR on April 13.

Pad saws are used in DIY to cut metal and wood when working in small areas.

Julian Peers, prosecuting, said Mr Lintott had been stabbed in the chest with the saw, which had a serrated blade.
The court was told the Everton fan suffered a punctured lung in the attack on Priory Road, at the junction with Walton Lane.

He had attempted to break up an incident involving a female supporter after attending the match himself.

After the incident he was discharged from hospital and was reported to be resting at home.

Hughes, a warehouseman, faces charges of malicious wounding with intent to cause GBH and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was denied bail and is set to appear at Liverpool crown court on May 3.
