70th Birthday for Ian Watson

Ian Watson Joined QPR from Chelsea for 5,000 pounds in Summer of 1965 (Possibly the first Jim Gregory era signing, Watson was one of a number of Chelsea "rejects" who did a great job for QPR). Played some 200 games primarily wearing #2 shirt but also #3 shirt and also a few games as center back. He briefly captained QPR.

Watson Did NOT play in the 1967 League Cup Final. Tony Hazell had his spot.)

Watson was our only "ever-present" in the calamatous 1968/1969 Relegation season (which shows how good he must have been). Some seasons he played few games. Others he played the majority. He played 35 games in our 1972/73 promotion season. He played the first six games of our 1973/74 season back in the return. And then he retired.

Remember him having a perfect temperament.

Near the end of his career, there was "another" player named Ian Watson (Sunderland and England), but for QPR fans, QPR's Ian was the "real" Ian Watson! - Further Photos

Harry Redknapp in at Hammers?

HARRY REDKNAPP has emerged as the hot favourite to succeed under-fire Sam Allardyce at West Ham.
By: Tony Banks

SUCCESSOR Harry Redknapp SUCCESSOR? Harry Redknapp [GETTY]

Upton Park legend Redknapp, below, who played for the club and managed them for seven years up to 2001, was last night installed as the bookies’ favourite to return, with Allardyce effectively given a few weeks to save his job.

Allardyce has been publicly backed by Hammers owners David Sullivan and David Gold and given the go-ahead to strengthen his squad. Wolves defender Roger Johnson has signed on loan – and will go straight into the line-up for

tomorrow’s Capital One Cup semi-final first leg at Manchester City – with Ivory Coast striker Lacina Traore due to complete a similar deal from Monaco.

The Daily Express understands that Redknapp will be the chief contender if Allardyce fails to survive.

The 66-year-old is becoming disillusioned with QPR and would welcome a return to east London.

Redknapp laughs off West Ham rumours

By David McIntyre

Harry Redknapp says there is little chance of him returning to West Ham and claims he would rather stay at QPR.

Redknapp, a former player and manager at the east London club, has been installed as the favourite to replace under-pressure Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, with some bookmakers offering odds of 1/3.

“I wouldn’t take 33/1,” Redknapp insisted.

I don’t see that happening. They’ve got a good manager in Sam. I’m very happy to be managing QPR, very happy to be managing such a good club.”

Redknapp, who left West Ham in 2001, was barracked by the home fans at Upton Park when he took QPR there last season.

EXPRESS AND STAR
Steve Bull: Karl Henry should not have got involved in Wolves' Wayne Hennessey saga
Steve Bull today urged Wolves to put the Wayne Hennessey saga behind them and focus on promotion – as he branded Karl Henry “stupid” for getting involved.

Former Wolves captain Karl Henry should not have got involved in the Wayne Hennessey debate according to Wolves legend Steve Bull.

Keeper Hennessey’s refusal to play against Gillingham on Friday and subsequent apology have been aggravated by the tweet from ex-captain Henry attacking head coach Kenny Jackett’s role in the controversy.

Henry, now at Championship promotion challengers QPR, accused Jackett of treating the 26-year-old keeper “like s***”, although he subsequently deleted the comment.

Kary Henry's Wolves tweet
But legend Bully is anxious the club move on and focus on picking up their promotion form.

“Wayne was guilty of stupidity and probably a little bit of immaturity,” said Bull.

“Whether or not he is leaving, you have got to play for the club paying your wages. It’s as simple as that.

“You can’t spend your life as a footballer worrying about whether or not you will get injured. I’ve known lads get injuries stepping out of a car or getting out of bed."

Karl Henry in Twitter blast at Wolves boss Kenny Jackett over Wayne Hennessey
“Wayne got that wrong but it’s good that he has realised it and apologised. He’s now got a chance, whether it’s for a week, two weeks, a month or the rest of the season, to repair his reputation – because that has taken a battering among the fans.

“Karl has been just as stupid getting involved in Twitter. I know what that is – that’s Karl sticking up for an old mate. You understand that but he should not have got involved.

“I think he realised that which is why he deleted the comment. Like all Wolves fans, I just want a line drawn under all this and for the team to get on with the only thing that matters this season, promotion.”

In a follow-up meeting with Jackett yesterday, Hennessey conceded he had made a serious “error of judgement” in declining to play at Gillingham amid speculation of an imminent move to Crystal Palace.

And despite Henry’s tweet, there is no resentment by the goalkeeper towards the head coach in the way the controversy has been handled.

The Welsh international is now in the frame to play against Preston on Saturday but definitely out of the picture for the rest of the season is Roger Johnson.

The central defender yesterday clinched a return to the Premier League with a loan until
the end of the campaign with West Ham United. Johnson is not Cup tied and eligible to play in the club’s Carling Cup semi-finals against Manchester City

HARRY: ‘A LESSON LEARNED’

Redknapp disappointed as R’s exit the FA Cup …\
HARRY Redknapp bemoaned a below par QPR performance, as Rangers were sent crashing out of the FA Cup at the hands of Premier League Everton at Goodison Park.

Goals from Nikica Jelavic (2), Ross Barkley and Seamus Coleman condemned the R’s to a 4-0 defeat, on an afternoon when the gulf in class between the top-flight and the second tier was clear for all to see.

“It was a disappointing afternoon, we were well beaten today,” Redknapp told www.qpr.co.uk.

“We were beat by a far better team. I thought Everton were excellent.

“Even though they made lots of changes, they were strong all over and made life very difficult for us.

“They’ve got some real quality throughout their squad and it really showed today.

“We struggled to live with them at times. Their movement, their passing, their attacking play – it was top class.

“The energy they play with is fantastic. The two full-backs are always pushing on. They get up and down. And (Ross) Barclay in midfield is an absolutely fantastic footballer.”

Despite the final scoreline, Redknapp insists he and his players will have learnt a lot of lessons in defeat, adding: “The lads learnt a lot today, and so did I.

“We had a long chat about it after the game because we were all understandably disappointed with the manner of our performance.

“Today was a benchmark for us. We want to get out of the Championship and be competing against sides like Everton every week next year.

“We didn’t do ourselves justice today though and that’s what hurts.

“There’s a clear gulf in class between the two divisions and that showed, make no mistake about that.”

Rangers return to Championship action with a trip to Portman Road – the home of Ipswich Town – next weekend and the R’s boss is expecting a response.

“We’ve got to regroup now and work hard. We’ve got to pick ourselves up,” he said.

“We’ve got a tough game at Ipswich next weekend and we need to be ready.

“The league is all important for us. All we’re focused on now is getting out of this division.

“That’s been our goal all season long and we’re in with a real shot.”

QPR to engage fans in crest redesign

Thu, 2 Jan 2014 |

Championship football club Queens Park Rangers is looking to redesign its club crest following calls by club chairman Tony Fernandes to engage fans in a process that will replace the current logo, which has been unpopular among many fans.

The current logo was introduced by former QPR chairman Flavio Briatore at the end of the 2007/2008 season.

Fernandes became chairman in August 2011 and has tweeted, ‘I can confirm to all QPR fans that we will look at updating our badge for 2015 season.’

He added, ‘Feeling is it will be based on old logo. Will get all your views.’ Fernandes says the new logo design will be in place by the end of February.

The club has confirmed that this is accurate and that a redesign will take place following a period of engagement with fans but says a firm plan is not yet in place.

The club’s marketing department will manage any design development and the club says it does not yet know whether it will design in-house or work with consultancies.

In October last year Permier League club Everton chose a new crest after consulting with its fans following the redesign of this season’s badge, which had been designed in-house and met with criticism from some supporters.

Last year fellow Premier League club Crystal Palace introduced a new crest that was both chosen and designed by fans.

WARREN FARM - PLANNING PERMISSION

 2nd January 2014

Warren Farm deal signed with Ealing Council …

QUEENS Park Rangers Football Club is delighted to announce a
development agreement for Warren Farm has been signed with Ealing
Council, meaning planning permission for the club’s new training complex
can now be issued.
Under the development
agreement, QPR will build a new multi-purpose community sports complex
and elite training facility, which will provide a base for the club’s
first team and academy, as well as give local people access to
high-quality community and sports facilities.
QPR
Chairman Tony Fernandes said: “We are committed to building the club in
the right way and putting in place the foundations for future success.
“The academy is an important part of this, and this agreement is the next step in strengthening the long term prospects of QPR.
“We
are delighted to partner Ealing Council and are particularly excited
about playing our part in providing fantastic new sporting facilities
for local residents, and to build on the excellent work of our Community
Trust to strengthen our ties with the community and provide
opportunities for all.”
The club’s new training
complex will bring together the academy with the first team. It will
provide state-of-the-art- facilities where our young players can
develop, and represents important progress for the club’s long-term
ambitions.
The improvements to the site will
also include enhanced football and cricket pitches, a new artificial
turf pitch and multi-games areas suitable for sports such as netball and
tennis. There will be a new changing block and facilities catering for
disabled users, as well as bookable community space in the new
clubhouse. Access to the site will also be improved, making it safer for
pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

A Community Sports Development Programme (CSDP) has also been drawn up as
part of the agreement, which will see QPR offer a range of sports
programmes for local people, as well as other opportunities to take part in community activities. The CSDP focuses on encouraging local people,
particularly young women, older people and people with disabilities, to
get involved in sport.
Councillor Julian Bell,
leader of Ealing Council, said: “Warren Farm is in dire need of
redevelopment, so it is fantastic that QPR has committed to such a huge
investment into the site.
“Signing this deal is
the next step towards bringing Warren Farm back into use and
transforming it into a thriving hub of community activity and sport.
“QPR’s plans have a strong focus on community involvement and I’m looking forward to seeing it all come together.”
The club aims to bring the new facilities into use in 2016.

Birthday - Ex-QPR Andy McCulloch - SIXTY FOUR
-
Andy McCulloch Turns 64. Born January 3, 1950.

Signed by Les Allen from non-league Walton and Hersham in October 1970. Made his QPR debut that same month - in the (recorded) televized game at home to Birmingham, which QPR won 5-2. McCulloch got the fifth goal. Rodney Marsh got a hattrick.

Team that day:
Parkes
Clement Hazell Watson Gillard
Ferguson Hunt Venables Morgan
Marsh McCulloch

Altogether played 42 games for QPR, scoring 10 goals. Was sold to Cardiff in October 1972 for 45,000 pounds (which was pretty good fee considering we'd just bough Stan Bowles the previous month for 110,000 pounds (and Don Givens in the summer for 35,000 pounds)

Became a fairly prolific goalscorer with Cardiff, Oxford and Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford.

MAIL - Spurs rap Assou-Ekotto over race tweet inviting 'quenelle' comedian to White Hart Lane

Benoit Assou-Ekotto was at the centre of another French race storm on Tuesday after it emerged that he had invited anti-Semitic comedian Dieudonne M’bala M’bala to a game at Tottenham, insisting he would ‘love it’.
In a tweet that has now been deleted, the Tottenham left back — currently on loan at QPR — messaged the man who invented the controversial quenelle gesture used by Nicolas Anelka to celebrate a goal for West Brom on Saturday at West Ham.
French-born Assou-Ekotto said: ‘oh dieudo tu vien quand voir un match a tottenham? Tu va adore ... LOL.’

In English it reads: ‘When are you coming to watch a match at Tottenham? You’ll love it ... LOL.’
The tweet, sent on November 18, is open to interpretation, but in the context of a tweet he then posted in support of Anelka at the weekend, it is sure to concern a club with strong Jewish roots. On December 28, Assou-Ekotto tweeted Anelka, saying: ‘jte fellicite man belle keunel epaule.’
Translated, it means: ‘I congratulate you on the beautiful quenelle.’
The tweet is written in French slang but a French linguist told Sportsmail that ‘keunel epaule’ is a text-language spelling for the ‘quenelle épaulée’, referring to the ‘shoulder’ quenelle.

That tweet has also now been deleted by Cameroon defender Assou-Ekotto, 29, but Tottenham issued a statement in response. ‘The matter has been discussed with the player and, while he meant no offence by his post, he accepts this was ill-advised and deleted the tweet,’ it said.

When Sportsmail asked Tottenham to clarify which of the two tweets the statement was referring to, the club replied: ‘It’s referring to any tweets concerning this matter.’

It is understood Assou-Ekotto has adopted the same position as Anelka and Manchester City’s Samir Nasri, who argue that the quenelle is an anti-establishment gesture and not anti-Semitic, though Nasri did apologise for ‘causing any hurt’.
Assou-Ekotto’s advisers stressed last night that he has campaigned against racism since becoming a Tottenham player and has been involved in a number of the club’s community schemes.

The incident comes with the FA under mounting pressure from anti-discrimination groups to charge Anelka following his controversial goal celebration....’ WBA

QPR at Watford Today....
In August 1969, QPR ended a horrific run of 22 Away games without a win (including the entire 1968-1969 Season) by winning at Watford!...
- After QPR's relegation to what was really "Division 3," it was ex-Watford players who played a big part in our return: From Kenny Jackett to Chris Day to Steve Palmer and others.

BBC December 29, 2007 -Watford 2-4 QPR

QPR's remarkable victory leaves Watford without a home win since 20 October.

Martin Rowlands' penalty gave QPR an early lead, with Damion Stewart heading home a corner for the visitors' second.

Rowlands burst into the area and fired in a third on 40 minutes, before Watford's Damien Francis finished from close range early in the second half.

QPR substitute Buzsaky stole in and rounded Richard Lee before angling home a drive to make it 4-1, with Danny shitetu poking in Watford's second goal.

Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd:
"We dominated for long periods in the first half and yet ended up 3-0 down at half-time.

"I was pleased with our attacking play but not some of the defending. It was schoolboy stuff.

"There was no ranting or raving at half-time, we just talked about what we had to do to. We got back into it and then left ourselves open."

QPR manager Luigi De Canio:
"I think the team is playing better and better. We took our chances which meant the losses of concentration we sometimes have didn't cost us.

"In the dressing room we only talk about our opponents, not what might happen tomorrow or in January.

"Everyone needs to do his duty. That is a sign of maturity and each one of these players has that."

Watford: Lee, Doyley (O'Toole 79), DeMerit, Jackson (shitetu 46), Stewart, Smith, Williamson, Francis, McAnuff, Darius Henderson, Ellington (King 68).
Subs Not Used: Mariappa, Ainsworth.

Booked: Doyley, Smith.

Goals: Francis 52, shitetu 84.

QPR: Camp, Barker, Rehman, Stewart, Malcolm, Bolder, Rowlands, Ainsworth (Vine 64), Balanta (Buzsaky 73), Nygaard (Walton 90), Blackstock.
Subs Not Used: Cole, Moore.

Booked: Nygaard, Barker.

Goals: Rowlands 13 pen, Stewart 29, Rowlands 40, Buzsaky 80.

GUARDIAN ALTERNATIVE AWARDS

...."And most welcome return

Life had been quiet for the QPR squirrel since 2012's pitch invasion – a televised cameo that spawned a rash of "official" QPR squirrel Twitter accounts. But a long overdue reappearance in December during the game against Leicester thrust the scamp back into the spotlight. @qprsquirrel told fans: "For a fee I am available for interviews. #justsaying."

Clearest clarification

"I'll just reiterate for a lot of the buffoons tweeting me. I WILL NOT BE PLAYING IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP NEXT SEASON. Hope that clears that up," tweeted Joey Barton in May. Last week, he played his 20th game of the season for QPR … in the Championship.

Flashback - SAFE WATERS

After an eventful 2005, Paladini has issued the following statement to supporters of Queens Park Rangers:

"As you all know, as a club we went through difficult times and the new board had to bear quite a challenge and responsibility.

"Thanks to some huge efforts in renewing its organization and bringing in some new investments, QPR are now sailing in safe waters.

"We are optimistic when looking ahead for the New Year and for the whole of 2006, especially as we know we can always count on your continuous support.

"Our hope and aim is that QPR will never again have to struggle against organizational confusion and financial distress that have badly hit the good name of our glorious club.

"A special mention must go to Ian Holloway, who has shown his passion and devotion to the club and as someone who gives us positive hopes for promotion.

"We are proud of our players and we are confident that we can continue to strengthen our team with some new arrivals at the beginning of the next year.

"A special thanks must also go to all our colleagues and staff and of course to all our fans who, from generation to generation, continue to support the club.

"We wish to embrace them all, one by one, with our motto "We are QPR!"

"We wish you all the best for a wonderful 2006."  QPR Report

Flashback - April 2012 - Gianni Paladini and Watford

Watford Observer  owner Laurence Bassini denies takeover and investment claims

12:00pm Friday 27th April 2012 in Sport

Watford owner Laurence Bassini has vehemently denied claims he is looking to sell the club or seek new investment.

Rumour and speculation surrounding a potential new owner and investment has increased in recent weeks.....

Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo, former QPR chairman Gianni Paladini and ex-Watford boss Gianluca Vialli have all been mentioned as potential investors.  Bassini stated he has never spoken to anyone from Udinese and when it came to Paladini, he confirmed the Italian had shown an interest in buying Watford several months ago but the Hornets owner said he was not interested.
He said: “There are always people that want to buy football clubs but Watford is not for sale....Watford Observer

- 74th Birthday for Frank Mclintock

- Born December 28, 1939: - Released by Arsenal at age 33 (who preferred Jeff Blockley and later Terry Mancini!), the ex-Arsenal captain who led Arsenal to the 1971 "Double" and won the "Player of the Year," was signed by Gordon Jago after our promotion back to Division One. In four seasons in the First Division, McLintock played 120+ games, scoring 5 goals and formed an elderly, but brilliant, defensive central pairing alongside David Webb. He was a major reason why QPR stabilized in the First Division and why they (so very, very nearly) won the Championship.
- After retiring in the summer of 1977, McLintock became manager of Leicester and a coach at a couple of clubs, including briefly at QPR. And QPR - at least partly because they no longer had Mclintock - were relegated a couple of seasons later. In a club profile of/Interview with Mclintock, earlier this year, Mclintock said ""They were four of the best years of my life,''..
"I was so happy during my time at QPR and that's me speaking straight from the heart" - See More Photos and Memories of Mclintock and QPR

NEIL WARNOCK/Independent

".... [D]espite their recent wobble, Queen’s Park Rangers look as if they are going in the right direction with Harry Redknapp. I’m sure anyone finishing above them will be promoted.....

It’s been a gripping year but owners have much to learn

I think it has been a good year for the game itself. ....

The main negative is that expectations have never been so unrealistic and a lot of managers are paying the price. It is getting to the stage where anyone who completes a full season becomes “long-serving”.

There can only be a few winners, but many of the newer owners, especially the foreign ones, do not appreciate that. They often come in with good intentions and a track record of success in business, but they do not know our game well enough and if they listen to the wrong people they end up making expensive mistakes. No owner could be more enthusiastic or well-meaning than Tony Fernandes at QPR, but even he has since admitted he knew nothing about the football business and if he had his time again, I’m sure he would do a lot of things differently.

If you are a manager with a new owner who has more ideas than knowledge, all you can do is get your head down and do your best, which is what Malky Mackay did at Cardiff...

Some Recent Christmas Greetings to QPR Fans

QPR Official Site - 2012

Seasons greetings from everyone at Queens Park Rangers...

Dear Supporter,

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Christmas and a fun-filled New Year.

Your support over the last 12 months has been exceptional and each and every one of you has played a part in our Premier League campaigns of 2011/12 and 2012/13.

No one associated with this club will ever forget that final day of the season back in May. Ultimately, our bid to beat the drop was inspired by you – the fans – who helped make Loftus Road a fortress in the final five home fixtures of the season.

The roar that shook Loftus Road at the final whistle against Stoke City will remain with us all forever and we will always be grateful for your fantastic support.

As a group of directors, we are determined to build on what we’ve started here and with your continued support, we firmly believe we can achieve our goals.

There is no need to ask what you all want for Christmas and will hope for in the New Year – because we want the same.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,

The Board of Directors

Christmas Greetings 2006 - QPR Official Site - December 25, 2006 - QPR RESPONSE TO DAILY EXPRESS
- QPR Official Site: Official Club statement by Antonio Caliendo and Gianni Paladini.
- We owe it to QPR fans to respond to the allegations made in the Daily Express on Saturday in an article entitled "Are Rangers Going bust?"
- The article was misleading in many respects and we can assure our many supporters that there is no possibility of QPR going bust whilst we remain on board.
- We have seen too many attacks on QPR in the press that simply don't reflect the reality of today's situation. It seems there is always someone who wants to discredit our club.
- Our goal remains the same as always: to take QPR to the highest position in English football. Despite injuries and recent results, we believe John Gregory will be able to take QPR back to the position it was in when he played for the Club.
We accept that talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words. We will only ever prove our critics wrong by taking the Club forward, and we are 100 per-cent committed to continuing with that.
- Finally, we would also like to take this opportunity to wish all of the staff and fans of QPR a very happy Christmas and a successful New Year.

Christmas 1999 - GERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS
WITH the Rangers team training over the Christmas period, Gerry Francis has a special seasonal greeting for all our supporters.
- Gerry says:" The team have worked very, very hard this year. There's been a great improvement and we are in a reasonable position in the league.
"I hope the fans have a tremendous Christmas because they deserve it for the support they've given me. Also I hope we get a bit of luck in there with all these injury problems that we're having. It's been a bit frustrating, having started the season so well and now knowing that I've got some very good players that are not available for selection.
- "So well done the supporters, well done the players. Hopefully we can have a good Christmas and a Happy New Year."
- Team news for Sunday - Steiner(groin) and Baraclough(virus) will hope to shake off the problems that kept them out of the win at Torquay. Loan signing Darran Ward comes back into contention after being ineligible for the FA Cup. Rangers still have nine first team players out injured.

"I'm sure we'll get a bumper crowd. And the best Christmas present will hopefully be three points on Boxing Day. That's certainly the Christmas present that I want most! Hopefully the lads on the pitch will be able to deliver it for me."

Christmas 1998 -MERRY GERRY FRANCIS
RANGERS boss Gerry Francis extends Christmas greetings via the internet to supporters around the globe.
Gerry says: "Id like to wish Rangers fans all over the world a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."
"I thank you for your great support, especially since Ive been back. Youve got behind the team and the players have responded."
"We need to keep that going and certainly its going to be very important that we get as many points as we can over the Christmas period. With the crowd behind us, it helps the players and it helps me."
"So, have a lovely Christmas, well see you all the Norwich game on Boxing Day and lets hope we get the three points."
Team news for Rangers' clash with Norwich at Loftus Road on Boxing Day:
Lee Harper is ruled out with flu, but overall Rangers expect to be unchanged.

BOXING DAY 2004 - Sporting Life PLYMOUTH 2 QPR 1
A 49th-minute Micky Evans header gave Plymouth Argyle a 2-1 win and condemned Queen's Park Rangers to their fourth consecutive Coca-Cola Championship defeat.
Evans' third goal of the season sealed the win after Paul Wotton had given the Pilgrims the lead before Paul Furlong pulled a goal back for Rangers, who almost claimed a late point.
The home side took the lead in the 13th minute when recent signing Bjarni Gudjonsson, making his first start for Bobby Williamson's side, played the ball to Wotton from the right and the defender smacked a powerful long-range shot that found the top corner of keeper Chris Day's net.
But Plymouth's joy was cut short four minutes later when they were reduced to 10 men as defender Graham Coughlan was sent off for violent conduct after a poor challenge on Paul Furlong.
However, Ian Holloway's side could not make the extra man count and the game became littered with fouls.
QPR's Marc Bircham was next in the book after the half-hour mark for a foul on David Friio before Georges Santos had his name taken for clattering Evans.
Santos received his marching orders six minutes before half-time after receiving a second yellow for a tackle on Friio as Plymouth deservedly went in at the break 1-0 up.
Holloway replaced Adam Miller with on-loan Southampton striker Leon Best for the second half in an effort to give Rangers more attacking impetus.
But, unfortunately for the visitors, it was Plymouth who doubled their lead as Evans nodded in Paul Connolly's cross from the left on 49 minutes for the striker's third goal of the season.
Rangers got back into the game four minutes later through Furlong when Kevin Gallen's free-kick found the veteran striker, who drilled a low shot past Romain Larrieu.
Plymouth spurned a glorious chance to give themselves some breathing space on the hour mark.
Peter Gilbert's inviting cross was met by Marino Keith but the striker, who had been recalled to the Pilgrims' starting line-up, volleyed wide from close in.
QPR were competing better in the second period and Gallen brought a rare save out of Larrieu with a long-range effort before the French keeper kept out a Furlong header.
Holloway threw on Richard Edghill and Gareth Ainsworth in an attempt to salvage a point and Larrieu had to be alert to keep out a Bircham strike as QPR pressed for an equaliser.
Larrieu again came to Plymouth's rescue deep into injury time, parrying Martin Rowlands' shot from inside the area as the Pilgrims held on to claim a first league win in three games.
Teams
Plymouth Larrieu, Connolly, Doumbe, Coughlan, Gilbert, Capaldi, Friio, Wotton, Gudjonsson, Keith, Evans (Crawford 72). Subs Not Used: Hodges, Lasley, Adams, Norris. Sent Off: Coughlan (17). Booked: Wotton, Friio. Goals: Wotton 13, Evans 49.

SPORTING LIFE: BIRMINGHAM 2 QPR 1
Birmingham celebrated their 100th anniversary at St Andrews in style as goals from Matthew Upson and Cameron Jerome secured a fifth straight Coca-Cola Championship win and extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points.

QPR winger Lee Cook briefly threatened to spoil the party by cancelling out Upson's 22nd-minute header to silence a near-full house but the Blues had the last laugh as second-half substitute Jerome fired the winner three minutes after replacing DJ Campbell.
Second-placed Preston lost at West Brom and Derby, third, went down at home against Wolves as Birmingham, held to a goalless draw by Middlesbrough in their first match at St Andrews on Boxing Day back in 1906, made it just one defeat in their last 13 league matches.
Birmingham, unchanged from the side that started at Southend on Saturday, went close to taking a second-minute lead when Nicklas Bendtner headed Gary McSheffrey's cross over the crossbar.
QPR responded through Dexter Blackstock, who shot wide from Cook's cross.
Home goalkeeper Maik Taylor held Jimmy Smith's 25-yard shot, while Bendtner saw his effort from the edge of the penalty area blocked by Rangers goalkeeper Simon Royce.
McSheffrey, a £4million summer signing from Coventry, was involved in most of Birmingham's better work and from his free-kick on the left the Blues took a 22nd-minute lead.
Damion Stewart was penalised for his challenge on Campbell and Upson rose highest to head McSheffrey's pin-point cross beyond Royce.
McSheffrey's diving header from Mathew Sadler's cross flashed wide before the visitors put a dampener on their hosts' celebrations in the 31st minute.
Furlong set up Cook on the left side of the area and the winger sent his shot arrowing into the top corner.
Royce turned away Campbell's goalbound 20-yarder at full stretch and held Bendtner's header as City looked to regain their advantage before the break.
Bendtner went close again with a header from another McSheffrey corner shortly after the restart, while Blackstock also headed over and fired wide from 25 yards.
City manager Steve Bruce sent on Jerome for Campbell just before the hour and the striker despatched McSheffrey's pass into the bottom corner from 12 yards three minutes later.
Radhi Jaidi and Upson both went close to extending Birmingham's lead with headers from a free-kick and corner while McSheffrey had two 30-yard strikes that whistled over the crossbar.
QPR used all three of their substitutes - Rowlands, Jones and Stefan Bailey - midway through the second half
but apart from long-range shots from Rehman and Cook, the latter's blocked by Stephen Clemence, the visitors failed to create clear-cut chances.
