Seven years ago - Club-Fans "Consultative Meeting" - Extremely Interesting Minutes of the Meeting
Posted on the Official Site, minutes of the recent meeting between representatives from a few QPR (but not LSA) fan groups and the Chairman and other club representatives.

Beyond just the specifics: Exactly what should be happening now: SUBSTANTIVE discussions between club and Fans..

re Parrett's sale: All the million pounds we received, went to pay a tax bill.
Re shiteetu: "so long as he starts (i.e. substitutions do not count) two more games we will get £250,000. After another 25 games, again the club will get another £250,000. And if Watford stay up we'll get £500,000" - (A few months ago Paladini declared we'd be receiving 600,000 pounds in August. )
Re Bills "GP started off by saying that with regards to clearing bills £250,000 is required and that includes the fee for Deloitte and Touche " (A few months ago, the club announced how inexpensive Deloitte and Touche were.)

QPR Fans Consultative Group Meeting
Tuesday 13th February 2007 - 6pm, The Chairman's Suite, Loftus Road

Minutes

The following are the minutes taken from the initial QPR fans consultative group meeting, which was held at Loftus Road on the night of Tuesday 13th February. Those in attendance hope that this is of interest to all QPR fans everywhere.

In attendance: Gianni Paladini (GP) Chairman, QPR FC ~ Nick De Marco (NDM) QPR FC legal advisor, and Chair of initial meeting ~ Akin Yilmaz (AK) Club Financial Controller and Company Secretary

~ Pat Harrison (PH) Official Supporters Club ~ Karen Hampshire (KH) Official Supporters Club ~ Tracy Stent (TS) QPR 1st Supporters Trust ~ Stephen Dedridge (SD) QPR 1st Supporters Trust~ Victor Stephenson (VS) Friends of QPR ~ Spencer Schwartz (SS) Friends of QPR.

NDM started the meeting off by asking for introductions from everyone and then advised that whilst it had been thought of as a good idea for each group present to have two representatives present, another rep from both the official supporters club and QPR 1st Supporters Trust would be joining the meeting as they wished to impart their specific input in the areas upon which they are experienced in. Bev, from the official supporters club, who has an understanding and affinity with the club's disabled fans, thus how she would be inputting into the disabled issue only on the agenda; and Geoff from QPR 1st, who is the Trust's treasurer, and who himself is a chartered accountant. The group were informed that Geoff had been in touch with Akin Yilmaz on the Monday to discuss the recently filed company accounts, and again, it was explained his input would be regarding this aspect only.

NDM informed that every item that had been forwarded/sent through from either PH or TS had been put on the agenda. When the issue of minutes arose, it was agreed for TS to take the minutes; when drafted for them to then be circulated amongst those present; and then once approved by those in attendance for them to be posted on the various outlets.

Each item on the agenda was then discussed, which has been covered below.

1. Apologies for absence

None.

2. Football

2.1 GP to give a summary of where we are and what we are aiming for

GP started off by saying that things need to improve drastically on the football side at the moment, saying that the board has supplied the current manager with players (as they did the other managers) and it is they to whom we should now support.

SS asked if the players had been given five days off and GP said they had three days off, Saturday, Sunday and Monday and that the players were back in training that day (Tuesday). He said he had seen the players and they were embarrassed about what had happened at Southend, as was John Gregory.

When asked by VS about any injuries situation, GP said that Marcus Bignot was recovering and that it was looking positive for Sampsa Timoska.

TS asked if there were any truth in the rumour that John Gregory is going to resign and GP stated "no, not true, he is the manager" before going on to say that Richard Hill has had to be suspended following the China incident; that John Gregory accepts and understands the decision; and that he doesn't know if John Gregory is going to bring in another assistant. The issue of finances for such a position was raised by SD and GP accepted this was true before going on to say that the board obviously wants to be in this division come next season; again stating that they have supported all managers regarding players; that yes, they have trimmed the wage bill by releasing some and then spoke about bringing Lee Camp in on loan, saying it's a good deal and that the board are hopeful that a fresh face behind the defence will give us some extra impetus on the field.

GP went on to say that events on the field are "out of my hands. I cannot play now though even if I did someone would still be talking about Naples" before describing the last week as "the worst week in the life of QPR".

SD explained that he had gathered a few questions from one of the message boards during the afternoon and one of the questions that had been asked and was football related was regarding the Stoke City/FA inquiry and if the club had queried the outcome? GP said they had queried it, they'd had a solicitor representing them and basically there was nothing they could do about the end result.

2.2 Consultation re: next year's season ticket and match day ticket prices

A discussion was then held about next year's season tickets and match day prices. There was agreement that the most vital factor for next year, regardless of which division we are playing in, is the need to boost attendances at Loftus Road. Various suggestions were made including perhaps vouchers being issued with season tickets for a first round cup game. TS presented to GP and AY a document, which consisted of various ideas and suggestions gleaned from supporters looking at not only prices, but also ways to encourage the lapsed fans to return. This document can be viewed on either of the rivals or QPR 1st websites for interest.

AY informed that he is currently looking at projections for both the championship and division one next season, as in an effort to encourage fans to return to Loftus Road thus boosting attendances, the board are working out as to what sort of percentage reduction in prices would be acceptable. GP spoke about possible reductions in all areas of the ground and it was suggested to him that the club does a mail-out to all those supporters on the club's data base that have been season ticket holders for the past four or so years. This to include all those that are lapsed, urging them to return and offering them the opportunity to purchase a season ticket at whatever the reduced prices the club are currently working on. GP consulted the meeting about what extent of reduction could have a significant effect on attendances and various percentage reductions were discussed (2% to 10%) which were agreed, if possible, would be meaningful. GP and AY agreed to make a projection based on such a reduction to see if it was feasible.

GP said he accepted that what happened in the past was wrong, and that all that matters now is getting those fans back. He also said that if it backfired there would be nobody to blame but himself.

The group were also informed that kids promotions such as kids for a quid would be looked at/promoted more for next season.

2.3. China game - update about the situation

When asked about an update on this, GP said that there had been apologies from both China and Chelsea; the Richard Hill suspension; that everyone is trying to be as fair as possible; and that threats from the Triads had allegedly been made and the police were around on Friday re: the Southend game.

2.4. Dean Parrett deal

GP said that the deal was worth £1m up front and with a 25% sell-on clause, plus we will have first refusal on him should Dean be sent out on loan in the future. When asked why there had been reports of the deal having been worth £2m plus, GP replied that the final amount that comes back to the club could amount to the sum that was quoted. When PH informed GP that she regularly goes to the training ground and got to know the family, hence her surprise when he left because as far as she knew, the youngster appeared happy at QPR, GP claimed that both himself and John Gregory were against selling him; that the family had made the decision; that he had been offered a schoolboy contract when he was 14 but he had not signed; and that John Gregory had done the same thing but still the player had not signed. He stated that he (GP) had never approached the family but had dealt with the Wintons who were representing Dean.

PH mentioned about a rumour that had appeared on one of the message boards in which it had been quoted by a school friend of Dean's that he didn't want to leave and again GP refuted this, saying he challenges anyone who says that the club forced him to go. He said that there had been talks with Chelsea but the family had turned this down and then Tottenham had come in for him.

TS then informed GP about a couple of calls she had taken from individuals who had claimed that both himself and John Gregory had forced Dean Parrett's and his family's hand regarding the move to Spurs and the reason why there were discrepancies about the amount/s of money received from the transfer was because they had received bungs via brown paper envelopes, thus taking money away that should have rightfully been the club's. When GP was asked to comment he replied that he had something to show her and left the room for a few minutes. When he returned he was carrying a piece of paper and which he showed to TS which was an invoice showing a transaction made during this month for an amount of £1m from Barclays bank which was transferred to HMCE (the inland revenue). GP claimed that not one penny from the £1m down payment went direct to the club and that it all went to the inland revenue to pay the recent tax bill. He said the bottom line was because of the finances we would have had to have sold a player (from the first team) the Spurs offer came in for Dean Parrett, stating again that neither himself nor John Gregory - who he said had had plans for him to make his first team debut as QPR's youngest ever player - had wanted him to go. GP denied there were any undisclosed payments and challenged anyone who claimed to have evidence of them, or of wrongdoing, to go to the police and/or the FA.

* After the meeting, TS spoke to Alex Winton asking him if he would clarify on a couple of points. Alex told her that he is not an agent; that he helped the family out as a family friend by helping with the negotiations with Spurs; that he received no money; and that so far as he were aware, Gianni Paladini or John Gregory had not wanted Dean to go to Spurs.

2.5. Any more funds coming in from the shiteetu deal

GP informed the meeting that so long as he starts (i.e. substitutions do not count) two more games we will get £250,000. After another 25 games, again the club will get another £250,000. And if Watford stay up we'll get £500,000.

2.6. Update on Harry Smart's condition

PH said she had seen Harry down the training ground and that he's off crutches now and progressing well. GP said it will take him a long time to be able to concentrate back on football.

2.7. Ballboys and Loftus Road

PH asked about the possibility of ball boys (or girls) being introduced to Loftus Road to help with the amount of time that goes wasted during games. GP agreed it would be a good idea to have four ball boys (girls) in the four corners of the ground and it was suggested for Andy Evans to be contacted about this.

2.8. Plans for a pre-season tour

GP said that John Gregory is keen to play three games at Loftus Road before the new season starts with games being pencilled in against Celtic, Arsenal (which would encompass being a tribute game for Kiyan Prince) and possibly an Italian side. When asked by VS as to why this couldn't be made into a mini tournament, GP said that the other teams have other matches planned already etc. He did say that the club might look to have a couple of days away at somewhere like Ireland or Scotland.

2.9. Access to and use of bars after games
There was a discussion about use of bars and access to them and the point was raised that fans in Ellerslie Road (who do not have a bar as such to use in that stand) who might want to go to the blue and white bar after games have to go outside and walk all the way around the ground with it being asked why they can't just be able to have access through entering via the gate that separates the Ellerslie and Loftus Road stands? It was suggested for Steve Pike to review this and to perhaps inform the match day stewards about any possible changes.

3. Financial

3.1. What is the current financial state (including concerning debts) and financial plan of the club?

GP started off by saying that with regards to clearing bills £250,000 is required and that includes the fee for Deloitte and Touche

He spoke about a recent tax payment (£1.5m) and how tax accrues all the time at the rate of around £300k per month, but that we no longer have a backlog. We have the ABC loan for £10m (£1m per year interest) and said that the aim is to get rid of the ABC loan as by May the interest could by put up to 13% and so this needs to be cancelled urgently and to get a fresh one. He said that the board are working continually on this stating the ground will not be sold and that there will be no sale and leaseback. He went on to describe the running of QPR as "like a big house, we have to pay bills, big bills and sometimes we have to prioritise". He stated that there things like security bills which amount to £50k per month to be paid and that cashflow is the biggest problem, saying that to keep this club alive we need the money to do so, money in the bank, commenting that we do not even have an overdraft facility with the bank.

When asked about directors loans he said that yes, we are all aware of the directors loans but that if we were to go bust they would lose their money, they have no guarantee on anything and so it is not in their interests for us to go bust or go into administration.

GP denied that there were any truth in the rumour about Paul Kemsley (Tottenham vice chair) taking over/refinancing the ABC loan, saying there was no truth in this whatsoever.

SD again raised some questions that had been flagged on one of the message board's, the first in relation to the ABC loan, which was regarding the legal implications of it and if the board had looked into this? NDM said that basically when it comes to challenging the loan, losses have to be shown and it would be difficult to establish losses given the club did borrow £10m. It would have to be proved that the company could have borrowed £10m on better terms (e.g. lower interest). He also said even if it was possible to prove corruption there would be little/no chance of receiving damages.

The next question was about the latest valuation of the ground and GP said it was £24m, and that this valuation had been done by Savilles (brought in by Kevin McGrath).

And what about contingency plans if we get relegated asked SD? GP's reply was "no, not at this moment, I don't want to think about relegation. I do not believe we will be relegated. Meet me in another month's time and we can talk about it then".

At this point it was felt a suitable time to have a quick five-minute break and then the meeting resumed.

3.2. Have there been any investors or bids?

GP again stated that if anyone came in with a bid and with the funds to take the club forward, he would be the first to step aside. As regards anyone wanting to invest money, he said "please come in; we have a dream; we'd all like the ABC loan to be paid off" going onto comment how £2m he estimates would be needed to build a team to go up.

He claimed there had never been any serious investors offering to buy all the directors out at the going rate and started to talk about how when he first joined the club the £650k he put into the club went straight to the taxman. "I didn't push my way in like Rambo. But I didn't know the financial implications and I admit I was a fool?an idiot. All my clothes were bought before I came here, I had my own car, still have my own car. I have dealt with deals worth £100m and will mix with everybody. Bids? No, there have been none. Where are they"?

3.3 The 2005 accounts

AY started off by saying how at the AGM in March 2006, the accounts that were presented had not been signed off by the auditors. The changes of figures in the accounts that have just recently been filed are down to the subsidiary (Queens Park Rangers Football and Athletic Club) accounts that have now been done/finalised/filed. Geoff then intercepted by explaining that he has the facility for doing a search on Companies House which means that every time a new file appears or is updated on their website, he gets notified by an email and he then checks the website to see what has been updated. This allows him, and anybody else with this facility, to know the history of filing dates and he said that at the time when GP joined there were subsidiary accounts (QPRFAC) that were four years out of date. He said that AY is the first man to have brought those accounts up to date and explained about auditors; how they are basically an independent body of accountants who do an audit on company accounts; that they have to be fair; and with no skulduggery going on. He explained that the most important thing for any auditors is for them to be sure that the accounts they are signing off shows reasonable proof that the company is a going concern for the following year. He said that the note about this in the auditor's report had been changed and that it could have been an option by shareholders to call an EGM. It was quoted that the cost of calling an EGM could amount to £10k and that AY is now drafting a letter to be sent to shareholders explaining the situation to them about how the last accounts were not finalised; that they had now been filed; and that the proposal is for them to be approved within a resolution at the next AGM.

GP stated how new auditors had come in, that basically there had been confusion, and that the auditor had pressured the club for extra money before the books had been released to them. He said he had sought advice from other people and that it had been recommended to him to bring back the firm the company used in the past, Rothman Pantell, and that this had been done. He claimed how the club tried to put things right and SD pointed out to him that the club must have realised that this would happen, how it would give a wrong impression for fans/shareholders to read about this in the newspapers, and why did they not contact someone like Geoff in the first instance? AY acknowledged this and said how he could see that this could be seen as a cover-up but that there had been a lack of communication between the ex financial controller and the auditors.

GP commented on how it was all a bad mistake; that he has put his trust in people that are paid to do a job; that he acknowledges he has to carry the can; that the figures - the loss amount - is the exact same; that he wants to be surrounded by people who know what they are doing; and that he is learning something new every day.

AY said that Rothman are now on the case for the 2006 (May year end) accounts and that they are hopeful of them being signed off and filed at companies house on/by 31st March. GP asked Geoff if he would come in to monitor the accounts/process and he agreed to at the least send in one of his accountants for the day before the end of March. Geoff suggested this so as to avoid any possible conflict of interests.

AY asked if there were anything else required to be known about the accounts and as time was getting on by this stage, Geoff suggested he email specifics to him, as he does have a number of queries, and for any responses to be relayed in due course.

VS asked about the community department and into which company this department comes under and AY said it's the Holdings company.

4. Community

4.1. Disability issues

SD explained how, with the help of the club's disabled representative, Malcolm in the box office, a survey had been sent out to disabled fans and that there had been a good response to this with many issues arising. PH mentioned how the supporters club had done a similar thing two or three years back and SD mentioned how he had heard plenty about this in responses.

He explained that a meeting then took place with club reps at which both himself and Bev attended and that as a result of this Steve Pike at the club is to make a report. Recommendations for the short term included getting info out to the club's disabled supporters on the website regarding things such as tickets and concessionary rates that are available to them. It was reiterated by both SD and Bev that this whole issue is about trying to be constructive, and how to help the club in how we can, perhaps by fundraising etc. The club has joined NADS (the national association for disabled supporters) and it was suggested that a working party be formed.

4.2. Stakeholders meeting

It was explained that the Trust are looking towards the implementation of a stakeholders day to hopefully take place during the summer. The idea of this is to help give the club good PR whilst at the same time giving the club a vehicle by way of having debates in groups with a whole variety of groups/firms/individuals who all have an interest in Queens Park Rangers football club.

A more formal proposal is to be put together.

4.3. Children's funday or open day?

PH said that at a meeting the supporters club had with Gary Hooper (the club's commercial director) he confirmed that there would be a children's day held at Harlington, which would basically probably incorporate with it being a train with the players' opportunity.

The issue of the old open days that QPR used to hold was raised and it was acknowledged that the events held at Gurnell leisure centre were costly. VS suggested maybe making contact with the Linford Christie Stadium to see if this could be a possibility as a venue to hold a summer open day.

GP mentioned how there are plans to have an open festival (music) at the Loftus Road ground in May. He said that the pitch was going to be re-laid after this and that such an event could be a great money making operation.

5. Consultation group

5.1. Future of this Fans Consultation Group. Should representation be expanded? What about representation of disabled fans? What about representation of fans who are not members of any of the groups represented?

It was agreed that the evening had been felt useful and that the sharing of experiences is constructive. Whilst it was good for reps from groups to be represented there was also the concern about such meetings being seen as a 'usual suspects' type of exercise. SD suggested that it might be a good idea to expand invites to a couple of reps that are part of the Rebuild QPR group, as this group consists of reps from the various QPR websites etc and this was felt a sensible route. KH suggested that in the meantime how about asking fans to send in questions for the next meeting, with this being promoted on the websites and in the matchday programme? This was also felt to be a good and sensible course of action as this would help to encompass a cross section of our fanbase. Watch this space for further information/developments on this.

Regarding the issue of representation from our disabled supporters, it was agreed that Bev should begin to do this whilst at the same time SD and Bev should try to encourage someone from the disabled section of fans to attend.

6. AOB

6.1. Jackie Bass - has she resigned?

TS asked if the rumour were true that Jackie had resigned and GP confirmed that this was the case. He said he asked her not to but she had made her mind up. The club, he said were looking to put in place one press officer and when asked about the club PR by SS said that they were getting someone in to look at the whole issue of the club PR. He also acknowledged that the website needed looking at in terms of content etc.

6.2. Coaches to Leeds

TS asked GP if he/the club would consider giving free travel for those fans going to Leeds on the club coaches by way of them paying for this as a goodwill gesture? GP said he would sanction this, that it was the least he/the club could do to thank the fans, and also by way of apologising to them for the Southend debacle. He mentioned how he felt bad for those 700 fans that went to Roots Hall and when SS mentioned how the Friends of QPR travel group are running a joint coach with the LSA to Leeds, and that they would lose money on their coach as some of their regulars would go on the club coach (due to this gesture), GP said the club would fund the cost for both the coaches, along with another club one if necessary.

6.3. Away supporters at Loftus Road

VS raised the subject of away supporters at Loftus Road from clubs that are renowned for being rather rowdy, and why they never seem to be held back in the ground these days to allow for home fans to be clear of the area? It was agreed this has been a problem and that maybe the club needs to have a think about reviewing/suggesting that the stewards hold them back for 10 or so minutes afterwards.

7. Next meeting

The date for the next consultative group meeting was pencilled in for 10th April.

Taarabt 'honoured' by surprise Milan move

Adel Taarabt has revealed it would be an "honour" to play for AC Milan as he arrived in Italy ahead of a potential loan move to the Serie A club.

Taarabt, who has spent the first half of the season on loan at Fulham from Queens Park Rangers, is expected to be unveiled as a Milan player before the transfer window closes on Friday.

"I am honoured to be able to play in the best club in the world," Taarabt told Gazzetta dello Sport. "[Manager] Clarence Seedorf and I talked and we are both happy."

"I'm a striker and I also like to play behind the strikers. I do not know Balotelli personally, but I know who he is and I am pleased to be able to play with him," he added.

Taarabt has been seen wearing an AC Milan scarf, and will make the switch to the Italian outfit based on the advice given to him by former QPR co-owner Flavio Briatore.

"I know him well," Briatore said. "He was the one who led my QPR towards the Premier League. He's phenomenal. Milan have made a great signing, but he's a talented player who needs looking after."

Taarabt could make his Milan move permanent in the summer

AC Milan have announced that they have completed the signing of Adel Taarabt on a loan deal until the end of the season from QPR. The midfielder, who was on loan at Fulham from parent club QPR, could make the move permanent in the summer, with a seven million euro transfer fee being reported.

Taarabt landed at Milan's Linate airport on Thursday morning, and later told Milan Channel: "I'm honoured to be able to play for the best club in the world. I spoke with Clarence Seedorf, and we're both happy. I'm an attacker and I like to play behind the strikers. I don’t know [Mario] Balotelli personally, but I know who he is and it's pleasing to be able to play with him. I hope to make my compatriots proud, because I'm the first Moroccan to play in Milan."

The Moroccan passed a medical on Thursday and officially became a Rossoneri player on Friday, making himself available to coach Clarence Seedorf for their clash with Torino at the San Siro on Saturday night.

"He's very talented and he seemed to be very enthusiastic about coming here," said Seedorf at a news conference on Friday.

Taarabt is Milan's fourth new arrival this winter after Adil Rami, Keisuke Honda and Michael Essien and is understood to have been one of the primary transfer targets for Seedorf, with the move backed by former QPR co-owner Flavio Briatore, who has recommended him to Milan general manager Adriano Galliani.

"I know him well," Briatore told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "He was the one who led my QPR towards the Premier League. He's phenomenal. Milan have made a great signing, but he's a talented player who needs looking after.

"He's a lad who needs protection, he needs affection. I was the one who bought him from Tottenham. I'm sure he'll find his feet in Italian football. He has no preference between his left or his right foot and he's strong from set-pieces."

The move for Taarabt has raised a few eyebrows in Italy, with many having expected a bigger, more established name to arrive.

But Briatore said: "I only had positive things to say about him. When he was still with QPR, he told me he wanted a change of scenery and that he wanted to leave England because it was a bit gloomy. I negotiated with Marseille, but he ended up at Fulham. Well, now he's in Milan he's not going to see much sunshine there."

Cristian Zaccardo, who had initially been expected to move to Fulham as part of the deal, now looks likely to return to his former club Parma, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Adel Taarabt has joined AC Milan from QPR on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent move.

The 24-year-old had been on loan at Fulham since the summer but has failed to impress, scoring just one goal in 16 appearances.

Taarabt was left out of the Cottagers’ squad for Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Swansea when boss Rene Meulensteen confirmed that the Serie A giants were interested.

The Moroccan international told Milan’s website: “I’m very happy to be here and it’s an honor to play for the strongest team in Italy.

“I already spoke to [head coach Clarence] Seedorf and he told me what he expects of me. I can’t wait to start playing.”

Asked to give a message to the Rossoneri fans, Taarabt said: “I’ll give 100 per cent and I hope we’ll have some fun together.”

He will join a team that contains former Manchester City cult hero Mario Balotelli.

He said: “I don’t know him personally but it’s a great honor for me to be able to play with him.

“I’m a player that likes to attack, score and dribble.”

Former QPR co-owner Flavio Briatore told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I know him [Taarabt] well. He was the one who led my QPR towards the Premier League. He’s phenomenal.

“Milan have made a great signing, but he’s a talented player who needs looking after.

“He’s a lad who needs protection, he needs affection. I was the one who bought him from Tottenham Hotspur. I’m sure he’ll find his feet in Italian football. He has no preference between his left or his right foot and he’s strong from set pieces.”

Taarabt responded, saying: “He was the club president at QPR and we have a good relationship. I’m sure he’ll be happy that I’m Milan player.”

Daily Star -  QPR hitman Charlie Austin out for the season

HARRY REDKNAPP claims Charlie Austin’s season is over - but tipped QPR to win promotion even without their Roy of the Rovers.

By Darren Witcoop/Published 1st February 2014
Austin has single-handedly kept Rangers on course for a Premier League return.

The £4m striker has scored almost half of his side’s miserly 33-goal tally this season.

But the west Londoners have learned Austin he needs surgery on a shoulder injury picked up in the midweek win over Bolton.

Redknapp said: “Charlie will be out for the season and losing him is a blow to us. He’s been fantastic for us - our Roy of the Rovers.

“Every week he’s pulled us out of the mire. But hopefully we can still maintain our promotion bid despite being without him.”

QPR’s credentials will be put on the line today when they begin life after Austin with the visit of third-placed Burnley.

Redknapp added: “It’ll be a difficult game. People say they’ll fade away but I don’t see why.

FLASHBACK 14 YEARS

Just after the Langley/Carlisle injuries vs Fulham

February 1, 2001 - QPR Official Site
GERRY - WE NEED A BACKER

BOSS Gerry Francis spoke at length about his future with Rangers and the possibility of making some loan signings after the defeat against Fulham.

Gerry said:" I don't think my future with QPR is relevant. I've spoken to chairman Chris Wright and he's asked me if I want to extend my contract. But that's irrelevant.

"Firstly and most importantly is First Division survival for QPR. This is not something that has just come about. Rangers have been trying to stay in this division for the last four years, of which last season was the best season they have had in finishing tenth.

"From the chairman downwards, everyone here knows the club needs a major boost of financial investment. Moves to do that are going on and have been going on for some time. So until the situation changes, the manager here - whether it is me or anyone else - will have their backs against the wall.

"I am appealing to see if anyone will come in and help the chairman or even take over the club. If that happens, then the new people may well want to bring in their own manager and backroom staff. So that could happen next week, next month or whenever.

"But that is irrelevant for me. The most important thing is that Queens Park Rangers get their investment to safeguard their future. Because unless they do, it will be very, very difficult times ahead for the club. I saw the situation when I took the job and obviously it hasn't got any better.

" The future of Rangers is so up in the air that we don't even know who will be owning QPR next week or next month or next season. What we do know is that, somewhere along the line, the chairman needs some help financially.

"I am here on my contract until the end of the season. Unless somebody comes in and buys the club and tells me otherwise. But the most important thing for me - which is why I came back in the first place - is the future of QPR. It means a lot to me. So whatever happens, I will be pleased with it - even if it means me and my backroom staff having to lose our jobs.

"New investment would give the club a chance to start dealing on the transfer market, paying decent wages and getting out of the situation it finds itself in. So if that happens, I will be as happy as anyone else to be perfectly honest. I am not someone who needs to work and I wouldn't have come back into management for any other club.

"Chris Wright has told people that he is covering all the losses each year and he needs some help. He's prepared to stand aside if someone comes in with the finances to take the club on. As I am. I know Chris has been speaking to one or two people about investing here. Hopefully that will progress at some stage. It would give the club a chance.

"Chris spent money to buy the club and he laid out a lot of money in his first few years as chairman. He bought players like Mike Sheron and John Spencer and paid big wages. But it didn't work out and Rangers didn't get promoted. Unfortunately, the parachute money finished, the income doesn't cover the expenditure and you end up where Rangers are now.

"I had a meeting with the chairman the other night to see if there is anything we can do. We have an opportunity to bring two loan players in and that is what we are going to go for. We can't really do anything permanent, but we will try to get a couple of quality players in if we can for the period of two or three months that we've got left."

Flashback 4 Years: Nigel Quashie praising Briatore as good for QPR!

Quashie TELLS QPR FANS: BRIATORE IS GOOD FOR THIS CLUB

ABOVE: Nigel Quashie has told protesting QPR fans: Flavio Briatore has been good for this club 1st February 2010 By Scott ColemanYur Shout ( 0 )

QPR 0, Scunthorpe  1

NIGEL Quashie has told protesting hoops fans: Flavio Briatore has been good for this club.

Hundreds stayed behind after watching Rangers lose at home to sc*n*horpe for the first time ever. Many were dressed as clowns as they believe the Italian co-owner’s hire-and-fire policy with managers has left the club a laughing stock.

And a run of just one win in the last 13 games hasn’t improved their mood either, with Briatore and part-owner Bernie Ecclestone leaving well before full-time. But Quashie, who has just rejoined the club from West ham, reckoned the fans should take a look at another of his former clubs. he said: “Fans have their views and I know what they’re about, I know what they want. But the owners have kept the club afloat."

“They have pumped money in and the club is in a financially good position. Just look at Portsmouth. Everyone thought the club was doing well but all of a sudden things turned upside down. so you have to give credit to the owners. They have balanced the books.”

Rangers’ worries were of no concern to sc*n*horpe, who deserved to take all three points. Striker Gary hooper was his side’s outstanding performer. He set up winger Thompson for the winner and had a goal disallowed. No wonder the 22-year-old is being linked with a move to bigger clubs, with QPR understood to have been rebuffed.

Thompson said: “For selfish reasons I want him to stay but you can’t stand in anybody’s way when there’s a chance to step up.

NIGEL QUASHIE believes QPR’s angry fans need to take a look at one of his former clubs.

Supporters massed behind the main stand after Garry Thompson’s 74th-minute goal had given Sc**thorpe their first victory at Loftus Road.

Many were dressed as clowns because they feel co-owner Flavio Briatore has made the club a laughing stock by firing so many managers.

Quashie, who has just rejoined the club, said: “The fans have their views but the club is stable and in a financially good position.

“Look at Portsmouth. Everyone thought the club was doing well but all of a sudden things turned upside down.

“The owners here are trying to get the club in a position where it doesn’t go under and you have to give them credit for that.”

Also The Mirror - By Oliver Pickup

Nigel Quashie blasted Queens Park Rangers’ fans following their protest outside Loftus Road against billionaire chairman Flavio Briatore.

Angry fans dressed in clowns outfits to complain about the way Briatore has turned the club into a laughing stock.

But the 31-year-old former Hoops’ trainee, who rejoined the club a fortnight ago, reckons they should wake up and be grateful that they have a wealthy benefactor.

In the 29 months since Italian Briatore has been at the helm, QPR have seen no fewer than six permanent managers come and go.

And following Sc*n*horpe’s first ever win at Loftus Road the club sit 12th in the Championship, seven points off the play-offs.

“Do the owners get credit for keeping the club afloat?” asked ex-West Ham midfielder Quashie, with hundreds of fans’ stinging chants ringing in his ears. “In the current climate, balancing the books is not always easy.

“I first left QPR at 19 years of age and the club were in a difficult position – they needed to sell and balance the books. But the owners have kept the club afloat, they have pumped money in to keep it on a level and keep it on a structure.

“The club is stable, in a financially good position and obviously no one wants to see the supporters outside.

“Just look at the likes of Portsmouth - everyone thought the club was doing well, they got into the Premier League and clubs want to push further and all of a sudden things can turn upside down.

“I’ve seen it for myself at West Ham. So you have to give credit to the owners, the owners here have given that structure, balanced the books and people have to respect that.

“They are trying to get the club in a position where it doesn’t go under and you have to give them credit for that.”

Quashie, signed by Mick Harford, the third QPR manager this season, could do little about Garry Thompson’s 73rd minute winner that leaves the club with only seven points gained from their last 11 Championship games.

Sc*n*horpe were combative and deserved their famous win - they have won 10 points from their last four league games and move up to 16th. The Iron’s fan roared: “We are staying up.”

They may not be out of the woods yet, but if they can hang on to key players like Gary Hooper, who Harford was reportedly trying to sign last week, then matters should be in their hands.

The bustling 22-year-old forward was man-of-the-match in an otherwise dour game. He outfoxed the sluggish QPR defence, latching on to Donal McDermott’s lofted through ball and laid on Thompson for his third goal of the season.

It was too much for Brigtore, who immediately stood up and left his seat in the directors’ box, much to the fans’ annoyance. Boos rang out at full time but Harford, in his first home game in charge since he was caretaker manager in 2007, believed that they they were not directed towards the players.

“I don’t think that the fans were booing the team, who played well,” said the 50-year-old. “I don’t know what they were booing for and I’m not sure where Flavio went after the goal.

“If the fans want to voice their opinion then they are entitled to - they pay their money and they pay the players’ wages. It doesn’t affect me or the players.

“The club needs stabilising and someone to take control at all levels and take this club back to where it belongs. My remit is to take first team affairs and that is what I do, though Flavio has not given me any targets.

“I don’t know what Flavio wants from this club. We want to be successful, but success takes time. Hopefully Flavio will give me time. You can’t have it overnight. We are aiming to win as many games as possible.”

Independent - Tottenham beat Chelsea to signing young talent Parrett

By Sam Wallace -Published: 02 February 2007
Tottenham were last night celebrating victory in the battle to sign one of the most highly rated young players in English football after they beat Chelsea to the signature of Dean Parrett.
The 15-year-old midfielder, who has already represented England at Under-16 level, was signed from Queen's Park Rangers in a deal that could be worth more than £1m according to how he progresses at his new club. The player has been targeted by a host of Premiership clubs and has long interested Chelsea.
A Londoner, Parrett is an attacking midfielder in the mould of Steven Gerrard and has already played for QPR's Under-18s side. A good sprinter in schoolboy athletics, he still attends the Quintin Kynaston school in north-west London. He will become a full-time trainee at Tottenham only in the summer of 2008.
Competition for the top schoolboy footballers, especially English players, is fierce. The People -February 4 SPURS SMASH RECORD By Paul Smith
SPURS have smashed the transfer record for a youngster who is still not old enough to sign a professional contract by recruiting Dean Parrett from QPR.
Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal that the club's investment can rise to £3million if 15-year-old Parrett's career progresses at White Hart Lane. QPR staff are amazed at the deal the cash-strapped Championship side have sealed for the youngster. Spurs have put a £1m downpayment on the midfielder, who will join them as a full-time scholar in July 2008.But there are incentives in the deal, based on the youngster's progress through the ranks and future appearances, that can add a further £2m to the agreed price. Spurs will still see Parrett's recruitment as a massive coup - especially as they saw off a bid from Chelsea.
Parrett is widely seen as one of the brightest prospects in the country.
He's a regular in the junior England teams and is one of the quickest players at youth level. Sunday People

John Gregory Speaks About Dean's Parrett Departure to Spurs
-
QPR Official Site - WIN-WIN SITUATION

Gaffer John Gregory believes it would have been wrong to deny Dean Parrett the opportunity to join Spurs.
The 15 year-old midfield prodigy - who helped England Under-16s retain the Sky Sports Victory Shield last year - yesterday finalised a deal that will see him join the Tottenham Academy on a student registration, before he eventually joins full-time as a scholar in July 2008.
Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Gregory said: "It's a win-win situation for all parties.
"It's been quite a long process in many respects. Loads of clubs have been chasing him - Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea to name a few.
"We've allowed the parents and Dean himself to make up their own minds on the situation.
"For us to turn down the chance for Dean to sign for Tottenham would have been wrong. His Dad is a huge Spurs fan, so in a way it's a dream move for them.''
Gregory continued: "We've been compensated financially for it, we don't deny that, but at the end of the day everyone comes out of the situation winning.
"We've won, Spurs have got their player and Dean has got a tremendous future at one of the greatest clubs in the country.
"Spurs believe in youth - they get thrown in very early and allow them to prosper. In that respect, it's a wise choice by the family to go to Tottenham.''
Gregory refused to rule out the chance of Parrett returning to QPR in the future though, adding: "There's still a chance that we'll see him back here. There's a chance that he might come back here on loan at some stage as part of his development, part of his growing up. We've not turned our back on seeing Dean in a Blue and White shirt at some stage.
"There's possibly more chance of Dean making his Championship debut, before he makes his Premiership bow. There's nothing written in stone, but there's a chance he could return to Loftus Road one day.
"We wish him all the best.''

As the countdown continues to our trip to Stamford Bridge, www.qpr.co.uk looks back at a memorable past encounter between Chelsea and QPR.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS 1, CHELSEA 0
Tuesday, January 15 1974 - FA Cup Third Round Replay

A classic headed goal by Stanley Bowles sent Rangers rampaging into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.

This replay was necessary after the sides drew 0-0 at Stamford Bridge. The R's dominated that first game and went closest to scoring when a Gerry Francis penalty was pushed away by Chelsea keeper John Phillips.

With the miners' strike and three day week in operation, the floodlights could not be used at Loftus Road. So the re-match was scheduled for a lunchtime 1.30pm start on Tuesday, January 8. However, after heavy rain the day before, match referee Mr David Smith of Gloucestershire called the tie off less than two hours before the planned kick-off.

QPR then moved quickly to advise spectators of the waterlogged pitch. Within seven minutes of the ref's decision, Rangers had notified the local radio stations, the two London evening papers, the press agencies and television companies. In addition, local police arranged for 'Match Postponed' boards to be displayed at all tube and railway stations en route to the ground.

The fixture was subsequently rearranged for seven days later - again with a 1.30pm Tuesday billing. This was a mild, sunny day but the pitch was very heavy and greasy. And a bumper crowd of 28,715 packed into Loftus Road.

Rangers were fifth in the top flight at the time with Chelsea languishing in 17th spot. The visitors' line-up included John Hollins and David Webb, who were both later destined to move to QPR along with their manager Dave Sexton.

The Super Hoops dominated the replay for long spells on a multi-speckled mud heap of a surface. Frank McLintock had a goal disallowed early on. Then Don Givens sent in a powerful header which squirmed under keeper Phillips but it was hacked off the line by Chelsea defender Marvin Hinton.

We finally made the vital breakthrough on 63 minutes. Dave Thomas dwelt on the ball and then tickled it through to overlapping full-back Dave Clement. He made a brilliant, buccaneering run down the right before crossing for Stan Bowles to nod home in emphatic fashion.

It took the 'Pensioners' 82 minutes to win their first corner. Although they came close to snatching a late and undeserved equaliser. David Webb, who was playing as a makeshift centre-forward, pounced on to a loose clearance and volleyed the ball left footed against the crossbar.

Bowles was stretchered off in the final seconds with a gash on his ankle and a badly bruised calf. This followed a crunching tackle by Chelsea's Ron 'Chopper' Harris, who had already been booked for an earlier challenge on the R's number 10. Harris could well have been sent off it the referee had seen the second incident.

Despite this setback, Rangers held firm to register a first ever victory against our close rivals in a recognised competitive fixture. However, the celebrations at the final whistle were subdued due to an outbreak of serious hooliganism by the Chelsea fans who had been standing at the Loft end.

Wearing their trademark uniform of laced up Dr Martens boots and white flared trousers, they surged forward to demolish the wall that formed a boys' enclosure at the front of the terrace. One spectator was injured in the crush. Then the visitors' supporters stormed through a line of police and on to the playing area in a bid to pull down the goalposts.

R's secretary Ron Phillips told newspapers: "The Loft terrace wall did not give way under pressure. It was deliberate vandalism. It was kicked and pushed down by the Chelsea fans as they tried to get on to the pitch in their disappointment at losing."

Concentrating on the football, Rangers first team coach Steve Burtenshaw said afterwards: "Our team did very well under what was, at times, provocation by Chelsea's robust play. There were some very harsh tackles indeed.

"The conditions were bad but we proved that it is possible to play pure football on any surface if you have the skill. I always felt that the goal would come."

Veteran QPR defender Frank McLintock added: "Stan Bowles is in such a relaxed frame of mind that he played in this tense replay against Chelsea as he does in five-a-side games.

"Stan stopped the ball, shielded it and then threaded it through opponents' legs! You might have imagined that we were in a practise session rather than facing one of the top teams in the country before a 28,000 partisan crowd!"

In his match report in the Sun newspaper, Bob Driscoll wrote: "Bruised...battered...but on top of the world. That's Stan Bowles, the new king of West London...Chelsea have dominated West London for a long time but the crown has been snatched from them by QPR."
This match was the only time in our history that we have defeated Chelsea in the FA Cup...so far! QPR

AFC U-22 Championship - AFC U-22 C'ship: Iran 0-1 Australia

Published: 15 January 2014

Muscat: A goal from Petros Skapetis put Australia into the quarter-finals of the AFC U-22 Championship with a 1-0 victory over Iran in Group C at Royal Police Stadium on Tuesday.

The Australian forward latched on to a loose ball on the 56th minute and fired home after Iranian goalkeeper Ali Reza Beiranvand could only parry defender Curtis Good’s header following a corner kick.

And although Iran threw on two more forwards in an attempt to restore parity, they were unable to breakdown a very organised Australian side, who might have scored again through midfielder Stefan Mauk in the final minutes of the match.

“We knew it would be a hard and physical game but I’m happy with the performance of my players” said Australia coach Aurelio Vidmar.

“We need to get a bit more composure, especially through the midfield, as the game got very stretched at times. But overall, I’m very pleased.”

While Iran welcomed back defender Vahid Esmaeilbeigi and midfielder Morteza Pouraliganji to the side from suspension, Australia coach Vidmar swapped almost his entire starting line-up from the 11 that began the 1-0 over Kuwait on Sunday.

“Every team has the same amount of players, our philosophy is to give everyone an opportunity.

"we wanted everyone to each get a full game, and we’ve achieved that so far,” explained Vidmar.

“There’s no first team or second team, I’m just trying to build one team.”

In a tight first half with chances at a premium, one of Vidmar’s changes, striker Adam Taggart, had his side’s first effort on goal inside the first 10 minutes as his free-kick from just outside the penalty area went narrowly over the crossbar.

Taggart was the most likely source of a breakthrough for Australia in the first period and on the 23rd minute he sent another curling shot drifted wide.

In between those strikes by the Australia forward, Mehdi Shiri went close for Iran with a deflected effort that goalkeeper Aaron Lennox pushed out, and a swerving long range effort that was just off target.

Australia came out fired up for the second half, however, and in the first minute after the restart Andrew Hoole’s penetrating run down the right side was followed by a shot from the right winger that needed to be punched clear by an alert Beiranvand at his near post.

Centre-back Good was then forced to leave the field for treatment to a nasty gash above his eye following a clash of heads, and with the big centre-back off the field, Iran had their best chance to open the scoring as Kaveh Rezaei slipped in Benham Barzay for a low shot from inside the penalty area that was parried wide by Lennox in the Australia goal.

But with Good back on the field sporting a mass of white gauzing around his injured forehead, it was Australia who took the lead.

Awarded a free-kick in a central area on the 55th minute, Hoole skimmed a low shot off the turf that was pushed out for a corner by the Iranian custodian.

But from the resulting set-piece, a hurtling blur of bandages in the form of Good powered a header on target that Beiranvand could only parry as far as the waiting Skapetis, who hooked the ball into the gaping net.

In a bid to seek an equaliser, Iran brought on strikers Arsalan Motahhari and Seyed Miri and it was the former who had his side’s best chance with a low shot into the arms of a sprawling Lennox following good work from Rezaei.

Australia dominated possession for the remains of the second half, although Motahhari had time for another effort at the death but this time his shot from the edge of the penalty area went wide of Lennox’s right-hand post.

With a lengthy seven minutes of stoppage time added due to Good’s extended treatment, Maulk could have put the game to bed, but a good save from Beiranvand prevented the second half substitute from doubling the advantage.

“It was a physically demanding game and we can say a game of small differences. Australia is a great team, very organised with a fighting spirit,” said Iran coach Human Afazeli.

“A big difference was that Australia used almost 11 new players, and we couldn’t do that as we have only 20 players in our squad and three of them are goalkeepers.

“I want to praise my players, they showed fantastic effort. I am satisfied with their efforts, they did a good job.”

Ex-QPR mates aim to power Pahang to glory

ZESHAN Rehman is relishing the chance to reunite with his former Queens Park Rangers teammate Damion Stewart as the two centre-backs hope to steer Pahang to glory in the Super League this season.

Zeshan, who was the first Pakistan international to play in England, formed a formidable partnership in defence with Stewart for QPR between 2006-09.

The duo are expected to start when Pahang take on Singapore's LionsXII in the Charity Shield-cum-league match at Darulmakmur Stadium on Friday.

Zeshan, 30, started his professional career with 21 appearances for Fulham in 2003 and also represented England in various age-group competitions before making his debut for Pakistan nine years ago.

"Damion and I played together for a few seasons in England and we know each other on-and-off the pitch. Hopefully, we can get our partnership going for Pahang in the league," said Zeshman after Pahang's signing ceremony with apparel sponsor Puma in Bandar Utama yesterday.

"He told me about Pahang and I also spoke to others about the club. Everyone said only good things about Pahang. My aim is to give the fans something to cheer about this season."

Zeshan, who had loan stints with Blackpool and Bradford City, believes Pahang have the quality to progress accordingly following their Malaysia Cup success last season.

"I have been following the M-League for the last two seasons as I played AFC Cup matches here with my former club, Kitchee FC of Hong Kong.

"The level of play is high and the fans are passionate about the game. I believe Pahang are a good side with a strong foundation as 95 per cent of their players have been together for several years.

"The target (of retaining the Malaysia Cup and finishing in the top three bracket in the league) is achievable. We need to focus on ourselves as other teams will pay attention to us following last season's success," Zeshan added.

Despite not having enough training time in Kuantan due to the recent floods and a poor pre-season in Hong Kong, coach Ronald Smith believes his team will do well in their opening league matches.

"I only joined the team recently in Hong Kong for friendly matches on synthetic pitches.

"It was an important trip for conditioning. Upon arriving in Kuantan, we only had one training session due to the heavy downpour.

"Despite the limited training time, my players are responding well to my methods and should have a good start against Lions on Friday," said Smith.

Smith, who helped Sabah win the Premier League and also reach the Malaysia Cup final in 1996, signed a one-year deal with a clause, reviewing his contract every three months.

"The contract was drawn up in December when I was still keen to go to the World Cup finals in Brazil with Australia. I've been doing match analysis for Australia for the last decade and had gone for the last two World Cups.

"I will remain with Pahang for the entire season and not go for the World Cup finals as it is not like I'm coaching the Australia team," Smith added.

Meanwhile, Pahang FA (PFA) signed a three-year deal worth RM3 million with Puma in a ceremony attended by its president Tengku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ahmad Shah yesterday.

Tengku Abdul Rahman said the new sponsorship will spur his players to greater heights for the new season.

"I want my players to step up and play in the league and do well in every game," said Tengku Abdul Rahman.

On whether PFA has appealed the FA of Malaysia's decision to allow its former midfielder Amirulhadi Zainal to play for Darul Ta'zim following a contract dispute, Tengku Abdul Rahman said his association had done so and was waiting for a response.
