Synopsis
'It must be the truth. I have nothing to hide.' - Bernie Ecclestone. One man is at the heart of the world's most thrilling motor sport. Over the last four decades Bernie Ecclestone's vision and ruthless business skills have transformed Formula 1 from an amateur sport into a global billion-dollar industry. This is the story of how a newspaper delivery boy from rural Suffolk rose to become the chief executive of Formula One Management. Over the years he has changed Formula 1 beyond recognition by introducing life-saving safety measures; tying down deals to ensure the sport became commercially viable for drivers, teams and manufacturers; attracting sponsors; and ensuring that the Grand Prix races became some of the most glamorous and spectacular events on the sporting calendar. Notoriously shy and private, this is the first time ever that Ecclestone has agreed to cooperate on a book about his life. He has granted Susan Watkins full access to family, friends, colleagues and adversaries to present the whole story."Bernie" reveals the true struggle behind his fortune, the background to his relationship with politics - including the real story behind the controversial million pound Labour party donation - and what reality, if any, there is to his detractors' accusations. A unique story of relentless passion, fast cars and lots of money - this is Bernie Ecclestone's long-awaited biography. And it doesn't disappoint. Description
