Glen Roeder Allegedly a Favourite for QPR Job?

Today's Mirror and Mail (although Mail seems to be based on The Mirror story) say Glen Roeder favourite.

Former Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has shot to the top of QPR's wanted list to fill the gap left by sacked John Gregory.
Roeder...who was club captain at Loftus Road when Terry Venables was in charge in the early 1980s, will be interviewed today.
He is still a hero with QPR fans after leading them to the 1982 FA Cup Final - despite the defeat to Tottenham.
And he has emerged ahead of Gianluca Vialli as the favoured candidate of prospective new owners Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore.
The club's hierarchy were impressed by the way Roeder led Newcastle out of trouble after the regime of Graeme Souness crumbled.
And they are also aware his achievement in taking West Ham to a seventh-place finish in his first season at Upton Park which has long been underrated.
It is felt at Loftus Road he would be the ideal candidate to lead the club away from the foot of the Championship to safety.
Qpr have completed a one-month loan signing of Birmingham frontman Rowan Vine, 25. He is expected to go straight into the squad for tonight's match at Colchester.

Roeder is still a hero with Rangers' fans after leading them to the 1982 FA Cup Final - which they lost to Tottenham.

Roder's QPR career: Signed by Frank Sibley from Orient, in the summer of 1978, who then resigned. Initially didn't play much under Steve Burtenshaw in QPR's relegation season . Then played for Tommy Docherty and Terry Venables as QPR captain. Sadly missed the FA Cup Final replay against Spurs because he'd been sent off (against Luton). Lost his place to Terry Fenwick as central defender and moved on to Newcastle.

Steve Wicks: Born October 3rd 1956. Started with Chelsea; then briefly joined Derby. Wicks was signed by Tommy Docherty from Derby in September 1979. Wicks played two seasons for QPR before Terry Venables sold Wicks to Crystal Palace in a part exchange for Clive Allen. (QPR got Allen + Cash) in June 191
Six months later, on transfer deadline day, in March 1982, Wicks was brought back to QPR (for a lot than QPR paid!) Unfortunately Wicks was cup-tied and so couldn't play against Spurs. Wicks remained at QPR till July 1986 when he rejoined Chelsea after QPR's calamitous "League Cup" Final against Oxford.
