Akos Buzsaky showed why QPR are willing to splash out £500,000 on him by earning the basement boys a vital point.
The Hungarian midfield man, who is set to make his on-loan transfer from Plymouth permanent in January, weighed in with two memorable goals to inflict more frustration on Scunthorpe.
The point was not enough to lift Rangers off the bottom of the Championship, but the draw keeps the Iron in the relegation mix.
Nigel Adkins' team have now gone nine games without a win.
The corner count of 13-1 in United's favour tells its own story, so does the shot from Kevin Hurst that hit the base of a post.
And they had what looked a cast-iron case for a penalty overlooked, as substitute Marc Nygaard clearly tugged Andy Butler's shirt.
Adkins said: "We're desperately disappointed not to have won. But the endeavour was there and we couldn't do anything about their goals. They were two wonder strikes."
The first came when Buzsaky curled a shot from 20 yards into the top righthand corner of Lee Camp's goal. The second was just as good, the midfielder deceiving Joe Murphy with a free-kick taken near the corner flag.
In between, Martin Paterson hit the first of the Iron's equalisers, forcing the ball home following a Hurst corner.
Hurst played a big part in the second as his shot was tipped on to a post by Camp before falling for Jonathan Forte.
Qpr boss Luigi De Canio said: "Scunthorpe made us work and I'm delighted with a point. We're going in the right direction."

Jonathan Forte salvaged a vital point for Scunthorpe with a secondhalf goal as Nigel Adkins's men twice came from behind.
Forte struck from close range in the 55th minute after Kevan Hurst's cross had rebounded off a post.
Driving rain and a gusting wind failed to detract from a thrilling contest at Glanford Park between two sides desperate to climb the table.
Rock-bottom Rangers went ahead in the 12th minute when Akos Buzsaky curled a stunning 30-yard shot past stranded keeper Joe Murphy.
The Iron levelled on 24 minutes when Martin Paterson bundled home Hurst's corner to score his eighth goal of the season.
But Rangers, inspired by Buzsaky, restored their advantage just before the break when the Hungarian international curled a free-kick past Murphy from an acute angle.
A strong wind behind the home side in the second half saw QPR pinned back and Forte equalised after Murphy had gone close to scoring direct from a clearance.
Scunthorpe continued to press but good chances were missed by Jim Goodwin, Forte and Hurst.
United have now gone nine games without a win and have not succeeded at home since September, while Rangers have not tasted victory in seven games and remain firmly rooted to the bottom.

Nigel Adkins vowed to stay positive despite watching his Scunthorpe side fail to beat rock-bottom QPR.
Scunthorpe had to come from behind twice to salvage a point, but it wasn't enough to end their dismal home record.
The rusty Iron have not managed a single win at Glanford Park since September.
In fact, two stunning goals from Akos Buzsaky looked like inspiring QPR to a shock win - but Luigi De Canio's men were unable to hang on to their lead.
Adkins said: "Our objective from day one has been to maintain our status in the Championship.
"The bookies had us down for not winning a game, but we keep defying the odds. I won't let people be depressed because life is too short."
Buzsaky struck on 12 minutes before Martin Paterson equalised.
The Hungarian ace restored his side's lead on the stroke of half-time, only for Jonathan Forte to secure a point for United.
De Canio said: "Credit to Scunthorpe because they were good and fought back well. Maybe we could have defended better, but the conditions were difficult.
"It wasn't easy but I'm satisfied we are going in the right direction.
"Akos Buzsaky played a really good game for us. Like in other games he showed what he is capable of doing.
He's a great player."

Scunthorpe twice came from behind to deny QPR a second away win of the season and leave them anchored at the bottom.
"I'm disappointed we did not win the game," confessed Rangers boss, Luigi De Canio. "Scunthorpe have to take some credit for the way they fought back, but I am confident we are moving in the right direction."
Akos Buzsaky opened the scoring for the Londoners with a terrific shot from 25 yards in the 12th minute. Scunthorpe were back on level terms 12 minutes later through Martin Paterson.
