Ealing Gazette/Yann Tear - Gallen aiming for a spot of Bridge nostalgiaJan 3 2008 - FA Cup exclusive
KEVIN Gallen - the last man to score a winning goal for QPR against their old rivals Chelsea - is hoping to make a nostalgic trip to Stamford Bridge to watch Saturday's FA Cup tie between the sides.
The legendary Rangers striker is injured and looks set to miss this weekend's League Two clash between his current team, MK Dons, and Rotherham.
But it leaves him free to watch the cup tie between his old side and the Premier League aristocrats "providing I can get a ticket!"
Gallen headed home the only goal when Rangers beat the Blues 1-0 at Loftus Road in March 1995 and that was the last time the Rs lauded it over their illustrious neighbours.
Rangers failed to win the following season against the Blues and also lost an FA Cup tie 2-1 at Loftus Road before getting relegated.
It will be the first meeting since then and 6,000 travelling fans can't wait for Saturday to come. Gallen hopes to be among them!
"We used to love playing Chelsea, because in those days it was a guaranteed three points," Gallen joked - a reference to the fact Rangers finished above the Blues for 15 out of 22 seasons before their demotion from the top-flight.
"It was a rare header from me that won the game and I remember it was a nice feeling to score against them.
"At the time, they were our biggest rivals and I'd grown up with QPR pretty much getting the upper hand over Chelsea, although we hadn't beaten them for a while before that match.
"Scoring the winner that day was definitely one of the highlights of my career."
Gallen continued: "It's been a long time since we played them and let's hope QPR can get some sort of result. I'd like to see a draw to be honest, then we can take them back to QPR and win! That would be the perfect scenario.
"I might be going to the game because I picked up a slight injury and I don't know that I'll be fit enough to travel up to Rotherham on Saturday.
"It would be nice to be there for that one. It should bring back a few nice memories. It will be a special day for the fans." Ealing Gazette
