re Jermaine Beckford "Watford to Decide on Non-Leaguer"

From Wealdstone's site - January 29, 2006
"There was a short mention of Jermaine Beckford's trial with QPR in the sports section of the Daily Mirror on Friday. It said that he was going for a trial with QPR and that he had gone there for a trial two years ago but was turned down because of a suspect temperament
"Jermaine Beckford has trained with both QPR and Wycombe Wanderers this week. Beckford aged 22, is the leading scorer in the Ryman Premier League and has scored more than 30 goals in all competitions. Stones boss Gordon Bartlett said, "Jermaine has created lots of interest. A dozen clubs from the Coca-Cola League have sent scouts to our games. His scoring record this year is phenomemal and he has matured a lot as a player. In fact, Jermaine's partnership with Richard Jolly is fantastic. They both compliment each other and their goals ratio has been incredible when you consider that we are not in the top half of the table". Wealdstone

The Sun Gossip:"QPR are set to make Sheffield Wednesday a final offer of £1million for defender TOMMY SPURR, 20.

Yorkshire Post - Sheffield Wednesday Brian Laws on Sales
"...Laws had to sell French midfielder Yoann Folly to Plymouth Argyle last week in order to fund the acquisition of West Bromwich Albion midfielder Ronnie Wallwork and a proposed move for Derby County defender Michael Johnson is currently on hold until someone else leaves Hillsborough.
The Owls have rejected bids from both Burnley and Plymouth for Glenn Whelan, but Laws is unable to rule out his departure before the end of the January transfer window.
"You don't want to lose players, but everyone has their price," he said. "Bolton did not want to lose their best player (Nicolas Anelka) but for that kind of money (£15m), he had to go.
"I am sure there will come a time when we will really be tested (over Whelan). Until that time, there is nothing I can do. If other clubs don't get players they want, they will probably come back in again."
The Owls have also rejected two bids from Queens Park Rangers for defender Tommy Spurr and Laws is determined not to lose the youngster on the cheap.
"We are trying to build for the future and players like Tommy Spurr and Mark Beevers are players for the future of this club. Tommy wants to be here. He has plenty of time on his hands and a big future in football," said Laws.
"We have not heard anything from QPR since the weekend and I don't expect to see them again unless they want to part with a hell of a lot of money."..
