QPR have dismissed speculation about coach Luigi De Canio's future at the club.
De Canio missed Saturday's 3-0 win at home to Bristol City after flying back to his native Italy following the death of his father. In an unfortunate coincidence, pressure had been building on him after a dismal Rangers display at Cardiff four days earlier.
The club's hierarchy, already unhappy about the team surrendering the lead in a number of previous games, were livid after the 3-1 defeat at Ninian Park. And De Canio was recently told to ditch his favoured 4-4-1-1 formation and stick to an orthodox 4-4-2 system.
There have also been suggestions he is struggling to settle in London, although he has denied this and the club's co-owner Flavio Briatore recently said there were no plans to replace him.
But eyebrows were raised at reports De Canio has been showing an interest in returning to one of his former clubs, Napoli, leading to more speculation that he could leave Loftus Road sooner rather than later.
But Rs chairman Gianni Paladini insists De Canio will still be at the club next season.
Paladini said: "Luigi has a contract and we are very happy with him. Results have been better and when you see a performance like Saturday's it shows how much progress is being made."
Initially it was not known when De Canio would return . But he flew back straight after his father's funeral and took training on Tuesday morning. In his absence, Joe Dunbar, Rangers' performance manager, was placed in charge for the Bristol City game and was assisted by veteran winger Gareth Ainsworth.
Rangers enjoyed a comfortable win, with recent signing Patrick Agyemang scoring twice in the first half to take his goal tally to five in four matches. His first came after Rowan Vine split the City defence with an inch-perfect through ball and Agyemang coolly rolled his shot past keeper Adriano Basso and into the bottom corner...Ealing Gazette
