Dave McIntyre/Kilburn Times - Money Gorkss for Rangers
QPR were this week expecting to seal the capture of Latvian defender Kaspars Gorkss from Blackpool.
Gorkss, 26, has been targeted by a number of other Championship clubs but Rangers are now close to signing him.
The club opened talks with Gorkss this week after learning that he has a £250,000 buy-out clause in his Blackpool contract, enabling him to move on this summer.
Preston, Norwich and Ipswich have also shown a strong interest in Gorkss, but the Rs are hopeful their financial muscle and higher profile will lure him to Loftus Road .
Gorkss, a commanding 6ft 3in centre-back, has made 50 Championship appearances for Blackpool since joining them from Ventspils in January last year.
He impressed in QPR's 3-2 win at home to the Seasiders last season, leading the club to make preliminary enquiries about him when the campaign ended.
They have since stepped up their interest, partly because moves for other defenders came to nothing, and this week Gorkss was expected to sign.
Rangers also appear to be edging closer to a deal to re-sign Lee Cook from Fulham, although Championship rivals Burnley and Wolves have now expressed an interest in him.
Cook, who left QPR a year ago, has not played in a competitive match for Fulham, having had his season wrecked by a knee injury.
Rangers are desperate to take him back to W12 but have been unable to agree a fee with Fulham and more recently the clubs have discussed a loan deal.
That would give Cook, 25, time to prove his long-term fitness before a sizeable fee is paid for his permanent transfer.
Rangers believed for some time that the departure this summer of David McNally could pave the way for them to finally agree a deal for Cook's return.
And last week it was confirmed that McNally, who was Fulham's managing director, was leaving Craven Cottage.
Rangers hope to tie up Cook's signing when the winger returns from holiday. Kilburn Times
