Footy Latest - Kaspars Gorkss signs for QPR
Monday 07 July 2008 -
Blackpool are fuming over QPR's approaches to their Latvian defender Kaspar Gorkss, but today it has been announced in the Daily Mirror that he has signed with the R's, having invoked a £250,000 escape clause in his contract.
They say that Blackpool "reluctantly" had to accept the deal.
QPR had announced on their website on Friday that they were talking to the player with Blackpools permission with this statement:"Queens Park Rangers have been given permission to speak to Blackpool defender Kaspars Gorkss.
"The 26-year-old has agreed personal terms and the deal is expected to be finalised early next week."
But the Blackpool chairman, Karl Oyston, reacted vehemently, denying any such permission:
"We definitely have not given them permission to speak to him. I am disappointed once again with the way they have gone about their business."
Oyston had earlier fumed: "QPR have been very badly behaved. It is as blatant an illegal approach as I have known in all my time in football.
"We have had interest from other clubs and if I had anything to do with it, Kaspars would go to any other club rather than QPR."
But it seems that he has no choice but to accept the offer. It will be interesting to hear his latest reaction this announcement! Footy Latest
