QPR sign wonder-kid Parejo from Real and billionaire chairman says: It's just the start
Qpr yesterday signed Real Madrid wonderkid Daniel Parejo and vowed to continue to raid Europe's top clubs in their quest to reach the Premier League.
Chairman Flavio Briatore used his friendship with Real president Ramon Calderon to seal a one-year loan deal for Parejo 19, fending off Arsenal, Deportivo La Coruna and Villarreal for the youngster's signature.
And Briatore warned the rest of the Championship he is well connected at clubs such as AC Milan and Juventus and is not afraid to splash the cash on the cream of Europe's talent. "I obviously have very good links with Real Madrid, but also with AC Milan, Juventus and other top clubs," said Formula One supremo Briatore after completing the deal for Parejo, who starred at last weekend's Emirates Cup.
"A lot of the time in England people just go for the same players. You often have five or six managers watching the same player - it's a very closed country.
"What we will try to do is open our eyes and work with the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus. We aren't looking only in the UK.
"We are lucky in that we have a reputation for doing things properly and we have been in sport a long time. We know who our targets are and maybe Dani is here with us for a year, two years, maybe forever - let's see how well he does."
Parejo has vowed to follow in the footsteps of Cesc Fabregas and Fernando Torres by proving Spaniards can succeed in English football.
"I am from Madrid and they have a big name, but when I am here at QPR we are all treated the same," said Parejo, who is rated as the "jewel" in Madrid's youth team by Real legend Alfredo di Stefano. "I am here to learn how these players play in this league and I am not afraid at all. Spanish players are succeeding in English football and for me the only target is to succeed in our objective, which is to go into the Premier League.
"I was with the Real Madrid first team this weekend and all of their players advised me to use this year to learn as much as possible and to take this opportunity."
Qpr manager Iain Dowie is adamant Parejo will prove to be a great success, while he also unveiled Lee Cook (left), who has returned to his former club on loan from Fulham.
"You don't get into Real Madrid's first team at 19 unless you are extremely talented," said Dowie. "Arsene Wenger is a fantastic judge of talent - so if he is good enough for him, he is good enough for me." Daily Mirror

It was noticeable at today's press conference to parade QPR's new signing Dani Parejo that no-one really wanted to talk about the finer details of his move from Real Madrid.
Flavio Briatore fielded questions on the subject by talking about friends and the importance of friendship and trust.
He did the same around a year ago when asked about the possibility of him buying QPR.
It’s all about friends, he’d say. People you can trust. It’s important to have good friends and be happy. And that was it.
Now the answer to how long Parejo is likely to be at Loftus Road is that Ramon Calderon, the Real Madrid president, is a top bloke.
Parejo has signed on a year-long loan deal, we know that. There’s maybe the option of a second year, but the important thing is that we have friends we trust.
The statement issued by Rangers confirming Parejo's arrival simply said that club had “agreed a deal” with Real and nothing more substantive than that was said today.
Can Real recall Parejo from his loan?
“Not really,” according to Briatore.
“Perhaps forever. Perhaps two years,” was his only insight into how long Parejo could turn out to be at the club.
No-one knows what the next couple of years hold for QPR and Parejo.
Today it was all about a humble Championship side pulling off a major coup by signing a 19-year-old Spaniard on a year-long loan from a club in a different universe.
It may be that this time next year, a newly-promoted Premier League club extends the loan of a 20-year-old Spaniard who has lived in London for a year.
But what if Dani Parejo were 21, spoke English, had a girlfriend in England and was playing in what is widely regarded as the best league in the world for a club with plenty of money?
This is the scenario Rangers are hoping for, so you can be sure Parejo will be well looked after.
Cook is big news round our way and he was far from upstaged today
The softly, softly, catchy monkey approach is being used. Get him here. Get him happy. Get promoted. Get him signed.
I’m not optimistic about Rangers' promotion chances, but I predict that if they do make it up this season they’ll eventually sign Parejo for between 10 and 12 million euros – whatever that is in pounds at the time.
The club would have paid around £8m to sign him now had that deal been agreed, and having done the next best thing and secured him on a long-term loan, they’ve bought some time to try and change QPR’s status in the football world before going to the negotiating table again in the future.
At this point, Parejo is probably expecting Lee Cook to be better than anything he has witnessed at Real given the media interest in the returning winger.
Rangers were understandably keen to show off their overseas signing, but Cook was still speaking to reporters long after Parejo drifted away.
Of course the language difference is a factor in that, but Cook is big news round our way and he was far from upstaged today.
“I told my agent I was only interested in joining QPR and that if he could make it happen I’d give him a big kiss,” Cook revealed.
Clearly Cook should be Parejo’s room-mate then, seeing as the attempt to persuade Dani to stay starts now.
I’m glad Cook’s back. I had doubts about it but my major doubt about Rangers generally is whether there’s the stability at the club to match the money and ambition.
Stability’s crucial at this point. Without it, success is impossible no matter what players are signed.
Cook knows the club and the division, is passionate about QPR and can come in and do a job straightaway. He’s a good man to bring on board.
And thanks to Cook I know more now about knee surgery than I did before.
Apparently it’s a misconception that he aggravated his injury by playing for Fulham in the pre-season friendly at Rangers last summer.
His stback was caused because it is standard practice for surgeons to leave as much of a cartilage as possible when they remove part of it, and that in his case the part of the cartilage that needed to be removed was left.
It’s now been removed, the knee is okay and has been for a while, and he feels ready to play 90 minutes against Barnsley on Saturday.

Queens Park Rangers chief Flavio Briatore hopes new signing Dani Parejo will blossom in English football.

QPR have sealed the capture of the highly-rated Real Madrid starlet - who impressed in the Emirates Cup at the weekend playing for the Spanish giants.

Parejo will spend at least the next season with QPR, who beat a host of clubs to the youngster's signature.

"One or two years in England will make him tough," Briatore told Sky Sports News.

"The championship is very tough, he is a kind of superstar in Spain but he is a normal guy who will do well here."
Parejo is looking forward to his first season in English football.
"If I wasn't convinced that QPR wasn't ambitious I would not have come and I believed we will achieve our objectives this season," he told Sky Sports News. SKY

MAIL - Real Madrid youngster Parejo handed chance to make a mark at Loftus Road

QPR will look to make Real Madrid teenager Daniel Parejo's loan move permanent if he impresses during his season at Loftus Road.

Parejo, 19, scored the 85th-minute winner for Real against Hamburg in the Emirates Cup match at the weekend.

A statement on the Spanish club's official website said: 'Daniel Parejo has been loaned to Queens Park Rangers for one year.

'The youth team midfielder will therefore play in the Football League Championship next season, where he will continue progressing and honing his skills." Mail
