QPR manager Iain Dowie was facing the sack last night after falling out with the club's co-owner Flavio Briatore.
Dowie, who arrived at Loftus Road three months ago, clashed with the Italian about the proposed transfer of an unknown striker from the Middle East, according to The Times.
Renault Formula One team principal Briatore is believed to have told Dowie that he would be dismissed, but stopped short of formalising the decision.
It was unclear whether Dowie would report for work on Wednesday morning and some of the club’s hierarchy have been given the task of finding a successor, should the differences not be resolved. Mail

Simon Walton has joined fellow Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle for a Club record undisclosed fee.

The midfielder, who joined the R's from Charlton in July 2007 for £200,000, suffered heartbreak during a pre-season friendly against Fulham, where a fractured leg ruled him out for the majority of his maiden season in W12.

The former Leeds United ace went on to make just five appearances in all competitions for the R's, before spending time on loan at Hull City.

Plymouth Herald - Argyle prepare to unveil record signing Walton
MIDFIELDER Simon Walton was set to be unveiled by Argyle as their latest new recruit at a Press conference at Home Park today.
Walton, 20, agreed personal terms for his club record transfer from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers on a visit to Plymouth last Friday and completed a stringent medical yesterday.
The Pilgrims will pay up to £750,000 for the combative midfielder.
That will make Walton the club's most expensive ever signing, beating the £500,000 they spent on striker Steve MacLean when he moved from Cardiff City in January.
Manager Paul Sturrock declined to comment on Walton's imminent signing for Argyle.
