The Gloucestershire Echo and thisisgloucestershire.co.uk can exclusively reveal that Martin Allen will be unveiled as the new manager of Cheltenham Town FC at a press conference on Monday morning.

He will replace Keith Downing, who left by mutual consent following a poor start to the new season that has seen the Robins slump to five defeats in their opening six League One matches.

Reading-born Allen has previously managed Barnet, Brentford, MK Dons and most recently Leicester City, who he left in August 2007 after just three months in charge
During his playing days, he was a combative midfielder for QPR, West Ham, Portsmouth and West Ham.

His father, Dennis Allen managed the Robins between 1974 and 1979 and Martin used to watch the club as a small boy.

Nicknamed 'Mad Dog', Allen's cousins, Paul, Bradley and Clive Allen all enjoyed successful professional careers in football.
Allen was linked with the job when John Ward left last October, but the job was given to previous assistant manager Downing.
He was seen in the directors' box at the Robins' home clash with Huddersfield Town last Saturday.
The 43-year-old becomes the sixth man to take the Robins' managerial reins in the Football League, following Steve Cotterill, Graham Allner, Bobby Gould, John Ward and Downing.
His first match in charge will be the derby clash with Bristol Rovers at Whaddon Road on Tuesday evening.
