RICHARD LANGLEY was thrilled to make his first team debut away to Swindon Town on Saturday.
Richard entered the fray as an 84th minute substitute. And he nearly scored a great goal with a flying header which brought an outstanding save from keeper Talia.
Richard says:"I played in the reserves on Thursday and there was no indication at that time that I would be called into the first team squad.
"So I was very shocked on Friday to be named in the 20 man squad for the trip to Swindon. I brought my big over-jacket with me to keep me warm while I sat in the stand as I really wasn't expecting to be involved. Then an hour before the kick-off, I found out that I would be on the bench and that was the biggest surprise!
"When Paul Murray was sent-off in the last 10 minutes, I replaced Mark Perry in the midfield hole. It was a really good moment for me. Iain Dowie told me to sit in the midfield, break as quickly as I could when I got the ball and not to give it away.
"I got a couple of chances to score, but unfortunately for me and the team the ball wouldn't go in. On the header, I saw the ball coming over from Keith Rowland's cross. I got quite a good contact on it but the keeper made a good save down to his bottom right corner.
"I found it amazing, really amazing, to play in front of 8500 people. It was the biggest crowd I've ever played before and it was a great experience for me. As soon as I went on, I heard all the Rangers fans shouting and I'm really thankful for that. They calmed me down a bit. It was just such a shame that we lost the game in disappointing circumstances.
"Now, having had a taste of the action, I'll look towards being in the first team squad on a regular basis."

RANGERS hopes of an instant rejuvenation with the return of Gerry Francis will have to wait another week after another set-back at Swindon, despite Mike Sheron giving Rangers a great start to the game.
Sheron had given the Super Hoops the lead after just ten minutes, when he stole a march on some slack Swindon defending to head home. Kevin Gallen created the opening and his inswinging cross was perfect for Sheron who beat Brian Burrows to the ball.
The signs were ominous though when Onoura headed just over minutes later when he was left free in the area, spurning the chance from Gooden's corner. Walters then went close with two smart curling free-kicks.
Rangers hopes of holding onto their lead must though have grown when Swindon were forced into a double substitution with Scott Leitch and George Ndah stretchered off after colliding with Steve Morrow. Sheron nearly took advantage, but his powerful close range header was brilliantly saved by Frank Talia.
Those hopes were dashed though as Karl Ready conceded a penalty on the stroke of 45 minutes after he brought Mark Walters run in the box to an abrupt end, felling him to the floor. Walters took the spot-kick himself, calmly slotting the ball past Lee Harper to make it 1-1.
Harper was called into duty again to prevent Rangers from throwing away their bright start completely when he denied Walters in extra time for about the twelfth time, with a save from point blank range.
The turning point in the game though came when Paul Murray received his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
Swindon exploited their one-man advantage expertly and hit Rangers late with Onoura nipping in to head Hall's cross in to make it 2-0 and then Walters, killed off Rangers hopes for good with a third goal for the home side on the full time whistle - meeting Onoura's cross inside the box.

Goals from Carlos Brown and Alvin Bubb gave Rangers under-19’s a 2-1 win at Wimbledon on Saturday. Team: O’Connor, Newall, Purser, McFlynn, Owen, Browne, Wright, Brown, Bubb, Jeanne, Lopez. Subs - Burgess, Andrews, Finan.

Rangers under-17’s lost 1-0 to Wimbledon. Team: Bull, Nugent, Murphy(Fitzgerald 75), Gradley, Duncan, Dick, Cochrane, D’Austin, Pacquette, Brady(Campbell 65), Walshe. Sub not used - Wattley.
