Birmingham's Manager Director Karen Brady/The Sun "Karren Brady's Brum diary"
"...TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28 - IT’S no longer size of your yacht that matters, it’s the luxury of your boardroom. We are at QPR’s Loftus Road where we discover what money can buy off the field. On the field isn’t quite so easy.
-The directors’ areas out-plush the Armani-style ostentation even of Abramovich’s Chelsea — which might well be the aim of owners, billionaire steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, fashion emperor Flavio Briatore and mere Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone.
Flavio’s wife, who looks as if she just stepped off the Miss World catwalk, is probably the reason why one of my directors refused to depart at the end of the game saying he ‘didn’t want to leave the fantasy boardroom experience’. Sadly, we lose and drop off the top of the Championship..." The Sun
Without-a-club, Richard Langley, trialin at Bristol Rovers. Best of luck to him.
Bristol Evening Post - Second try for Langley at Rovers
-BRISTOL Rovers are again running the rule over midfielder Richard Langley as the Jamaican international looks to resurrect his career.
- The 28-year-old has been with the Pirates for training this week and impressed in a midweek reserve team friendly at Exeter City, which the visitors won 4-3.
Rovers have already taken the former QPR, Cardiff City and Luton player on trial once this season – but their attempts to assess him were thwarted when he suffered a hamstring injury midway through the first half of a reserve team game against Cardiff City in late August.
- But coach Paul Trollope insisted Rovers would take another look, saying: "He has proven quality, he's played a lot of international games and he needs a chance somewhere."
- If Rovers do decide to pursue their interest in a player who has made 14 appearances for the Caribbean country, they could do so before the January transfer window as Langley is currently without a club, having been released by Luton last season.
-The Londoner managed to play only the final game of the campaign for the Hatters, having been sidelined by a cruciate ligament injury he picked up in pre-season.
Rovers' director of football Lennie Lawrence paid £200,000 to take Langley to Cardiff City from QPR in 2003 while in charge at Ninian Park. The Londoner spent two seasons with the Welsh club before returning to Loftus Road, where he had first come up through the youth ranks. - This is Bristol
Forty Years Ago Today..."The Doc" Took Over at QPR
-November 1, 1968: Tommy Docherty Took over at QPR...(and 28 Days later, "The Doc" Left QPR!
- In his four week spell, QPR did achieve one of their four wins they got that season: a 2-1 win at home to Nottingham Forest. QPR lost their other three games in the Docherty era.
- When Docherty took over, there was an imense thrill for QPR fans: A "big-time" manager taking over (even though he had come most recently from Rotherham, who QPR had beaten the previous season, 6-0!). Aparently, there was some conflict with QPR Chairman Jim Gregory. Docherty wanted to sign a player (Tiler?). Gregory didn't want to sign him. QPR didn't sign him. Docherty left, criticizing the team, but praising Rodney Marsh.
Docherty took over at Aston Villa (who went down!)...And Les Allen became QPR's Player Manager, and QPR went down.
- Just over a decade later, Docherty was back at QPR managing under Jim Gregory, and lasted less than 18 months, before again being fired.. See: Tommy Docherty/Wikipedia
