GARETH: WE STILL HAVE WAD IT TAKES
QPR 1 Crewe 2
GARETH AINSWORTH has pleaded with QPR fans to give caretaker boss Gary Waddock more time after the troubled club's second home defeat in a row.
The Loftus Road faithful directed a chorus of boos towards their team as goals from Kenny Lunt and David Vaughan lifted the rock-bottom visitors to within eight points of safety.
An Ainsworth consolation did little to lift the doubt surrounding Waddock's future as he aims to take over from suspended boss Ian Holloway on a fulltime basis.
But Ainsworth insists that Waddock has the backing of the players and hopes that fans will understand the difficulty of the situation, saying: "The staff are doing a great job and people are panicking more than they should.
"A few boos always outweigh a few claps, but the knowledgeable people will know that this is a learning curve for everyone.
"If they pay their money, the fans are entitled to do what they want, but the majority are knowledgeable football fans.
"These things happen in football but the lads are playing for Gary like they would do for any manager. He's doing a great job."
He continued: "We were five games unbeaten last week but two defeats have cost us. We can easily turn this round.
"As players, we don't want to get involved in what goes on upstairs. Ian kept us well away from that and so does Gary.
"The lads have responded really well. Gary respects us, we respect Gary and he backs us to the hilt, which is exactly what you want from the manager.''
