GARY WADDOCK is hoping chairman Gianni Paladini does not change his mind about appointing him QPR manager after a second home defeat in four days, this time against bottom-of-the-table Crewe.
Paladini said on Thursday that Waddock had got the job following a two-month spell as caretaker after Ian Holloway was placed on 'gardening leave'. But goals in each half from Kenny Lunt and David Vaughan have left Waddock wondering if Paladini might have a rethink despite Gareth Ainsworth's injury-time consolation.
'I still want the job,' said Waddock. 'I've got broad shoulders and I can take all the criticism that has been coming our way in the last few days. Until the situation with Ian Holloway is resolved I can't make any decisions on the future of players.'
Ainsworth, who missed a penalty against Stoke on Wednesday, apologised for the players' performance but is confident Waddock will be retained. 'The players feel guilty,' he said. 'It's Gary's big chance and in the last few games we haven't done it for him.'
