QPR Boss 'Bluffed Way Into Job'
The QPR boss at the centre of the so-called 'Sopranos' trial has been accused of bluffing his way into the directorship and of exaggerating his wealth and experience. Gianni Paladini, 60, spent a tense morning being cross-examined in the witness box at Blackfriars Crown Court. It followed his claims he was held in a room by a rival director and six "hired thugs", beaten and forced to sign a letter of resignation.
The defence counsel accused him of lying about his abilities when he went for the directorship.
Co-director David Morris and six others face charges of conspiracy to commit blackmail and possession of a firearm. The court has heard that Mr Paladini, the majority shareholder, was lured into a room at the Loftus Road ground by Morris and was threatened into giving up his directorship. At one stage, a gun was placed on the table in front of him. He was also punched and slapped by the other men in the room, the court was told. David Williams, prosecuting counsel, told the jury when the trial opened that the case was similar to an episode of the hitn US TV series The Sopranos. All seven men deny the charges.
The case continues. http://www.five.tv/news/?id=13522999&type=top_stories
