Thirty-eight years ago today, QPR's 50,000 pound record signing from Birmingham, former England International (and ex-Chelsea) forward Barry Bridges made his QPR debut at home to the Champions, Manchester City. (QPR drew 1-1 with Bridges of course scoring). Bridges ended up joint top scorer (along with Mick Leach) with 8 goals in 27 appearances. In our first season back in the second division, Bridges scored 21 goals in 38 games, in a dynamic forward line of Marsh, Clarke and Bridges with Venables in midfield.
Then the following season, Bridges was sold to Millwall. His last QPR game was in September 1970: QPR's 6-2 defeat at Middlesbrough in which QPR were 2-0 in the first five minutes!
