Eagles boss Peter Taylor is looking forward to locking horns with opposite number John Gregory on Saturday, as he prepares to face Queens Park Rangers at Selhurst Park.
Gregory was in charge of Aston Villa whilst Taylor was at Midland rivals Leicester City several years ago and now the pair are to meet in derby circumstances again.
He is a manager that Taylor rates highly too and he admits to being pleased at seeing him back in the managerial game after several years away.
"John's a good man and I'm delighted he's back in football," said Taylor.
"He was at Villa when I was at Leicester and games between the two were always a bit of a derby match. In my first game at Leicester we played Villa and drew 0-0 and we lost in the league at Villa and then won in the FA Cup.
"He's a very enthusiastic football man and was a fantastic player as well.. When you think about what he achieved at Villa, he took an all-British team to the top of the table so he did very well."
After leaving Villa, he tried his luck with Derby County but a contentious departure from Pride Park saw him move more into the world of media punditry before arriving in west London in September after previously being linked with a number of roles elsewhere.
"There are other former Premiership managers around who are now in the lower divisions doing well, so that's how tough it is to get back into the game," added Taylor.
"You're always fortunate to be in work and appreciate being in work, because if you haven't got any it takes a while to get back in."
