Ex-Charlton striker, Flanagan was one of a number of Crystal Palace players signed by Terry Venables in December 1980 after he left Palace for QPR. Played up front or midfield. Palace paid 650,000 pounds for him in 1978. QPR paid 150,000 pounds for him.
Was part of QPR's FA Cup Final team and played in the Championship team the following season. Returned to Charlton in January 1984.

"England Youth and ‘B’ international whose playing career included spells at Spurs, Charlton, New England Tea Men (USA), Crystal Palace, QPR and Cambridge United. Mike made almost 400 appearances in two spells at Charlton, scoring 120 goals and during the 1978/79 season he was famously sent off for fighting with his team-mate Derek Hales during an FA Cup tie against Maidstone. During his time at QPR Mike played in the 1982 FA Cup Final and the subsequent replay. He also played non-league football for Grays, Billericay, Hornchurch and Margate where he scored four goals in 15 appearances during the 1990/91 campaign. Mike later managed Gillingham and Waterford (Ireland) and also worked as a coach at Charlton, Southend, Millwall and Hastings. He linked up with Margate again in April 2006, becoming Robin Trott’s assistant
