Newcastle are weighing up a New Year swoop for QPR’s teenage hotshot Ray Jones.
United, whose scouts have watched him several times, are aware the 18-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and wants out of Loftus Road.
And QPR must judge whether to accept a cash bid for Jones in January or allow a tribunal to decide how much compensation they receive if he leaves in the summer.
Newcastle have been joined by Liverpool and Wigan in eyeing Jones, who has scored five goals in his maiden season at first-team level.
QPR have already rejected what they described as a “derisory” offer from Fulham – believed to be just £500,000 – for the England Under-19 international.
Jones would bring height and pace to Newcastle’s attacking armoury, standing an imposing 6ft 4in but lightning quick off the mark." (Sunday Sun
