Blackpool Today - Evatt for keeps!
The Seasiders will today sign Ian Evatt – and it looks as though they will get the defender for keeps.
The 25-year-old's loan spell officially ended yesterday, but Pool have spent the last 48 hours talking with QPR about keeping Evatt for longer – and it appears their efforts have paid off.
There were two options: a loan extension or a permanent deal.
The latter option seemed the less likely but with QPR reportedly keen to get Evatt off their wage bill – plus the fact that the London club have signed two defenders since the transfer window reopened – The Gazette understands that Pool have managed to strike a deal.
That will delight the fans and will back up the claims made by chairman Karl Oyston in yesterday's Gazette that the club is prepared to take the odd gamble or two in a bid to secure promotion to the Championship.
Evatt was on a generous wage at QPR and should the signing go ahead today as planned, he will almost certainly become the Seasiders top earner.
"We want Ian to come and that's what we have been working towards in the last few days," boss Simon Grayson said.
