Albion have sold goalkeeper Wayne Henderson to Preston North End for a fee of £150,000, potentially rising to £200,000 dependent on appearances. He has agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Irish international Henderson handed in a written transfer request on Monday, which the club accepted and the player completed his move to Deepdale today, after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
Chairman Dick Knight explained, "We are sorry to see Wayne go, but felt we could not ignore a second transfer request from the player. I was aware of Preston's interest and so moved quickly to conclude the deal.
"We did not want Wayne to leave, but I am satisfied with the deal. I'm sure Wayne will be delighted with joining Preston and I would like to wish him all the best in his future career."
Albion boss Dean Wilkins added, "I think from Wayne's point of view he found it difficult being left out. From my point of view I thank him for his service to the club.
"He has always been professional when he has played, but I felt he handed in his transfer request a little too soon.
"He's got his reasons for doing that, and part of that is because of his international career, but I feel that he has served the club well and I wish him all the best for the future." Brighton

QPR home in on Henderson
Story by John Atkin 21 July 2005
Wayne Henderson is set to join Queens Park Rangers after moving to Loftus Road on loan.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 goalkeeper, who trained with Bristol City last week, has been unable to force his way into the reckoning at Villa Park and is thought to be keen to secure first-team football. Quoted on the club’s official site, goalkeeping coach Eric Steele said: “QPR have been expressing an interest in Wayne for some time. He will train with the club for two days and then will be available for QPR’s game with Charlton at the weekend.” Were he to make a permanent move to west London, the youngster would rejoin Stefan Moore who moved earlier this summer.
