A Decade Ago Today, QPR's Promotion-Chasing Season Ended in Defeat

-
A decade ago: May 4, 1997, the 1996/97 season which had begun with such hope for freshly-relegated QPR ended with a 3-0 away loss to Bradford (not at Loftus Road as I initially wrote).
Under the new ownership of Chris-Wright (initially under the management of Ray Wilkins)had hoped to gain promotion to the Premiership. Ray Wilkins had quickly given way to Stuart Houston and Bruce Rioch (rather than Alan Curbishley or some others.)
That win for Bradford kept them in the Division. Two Years later, Bradford were promted to the Premiership. (And now a decade later, Bradford have just been relegated to the old-Fourth Division, now called League Two.)
QPR's team for that Bradford game a decade ago:
Roberts
Brevitt Yates Morrow Maddix
Impey Peacock Quashie Murray
Slade Spencer- Sub: Ready

QPR fans didn't know it at the time, but this season was actually as good as it got. Under Houston-Rioch, QPR came close to making the playoffs, with big signings John Spencer, Gavin Peacock and Steve Morrow (with Mike Sheron, Matt Rose and Lee Harper to come in the off-season).
