GALLEN FACING WAITING GAME- The Plymouth Herald, May 9
Kevin gallen is waiting to find out whether he has a future with Plymouth Argyle. The 31-year-old spent the final four months of this season on loan to the Pilgrims from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers.
Gallen will be given a free transfer by QPR this summer and he admitted he would be interested in extending his stay at Home Park.
But manager Ian Holloway has not made decisions on any of the three players who ended the season on loan to Argyle - Gallen, plus Hungarian pair Peter Halmosi and Krisztian Timar.
Gallen has not spoken to any other clubs about signing for them next season.
"I'm up in the air at the moment," he said. "I'm not going to be at QPR any more so we will see what happens.
"I want to keep playing in the Championship - I believe I'm good enough."
Gallen made nine starts in 16 appearances for Argyle after arriving from QPR in January.
He scored two goals, including a penalty in the 2-0 home win against Derby County in the FA Cup fifth round.
Gallen played as a striker for most of his matches, although he was also used in a midfield role by Holloway on occasions.
The move to Home Park saw Gallen reunited with Holloway, who signed him for QPR from Barnsley in November 2001.
The pair were also team-mates at QPR during Holloway's playing days so they know each other well.
Gallen said: "There has been the same sort of antics and banter. It has been really good. I have thoroughly enjoyed it."
As to his future, he added: "I will have to sit down and talk to Ollie and see if he wants me first.
"I would be interested (in staying) because if they show a bit of ambition and get a few more players in I think they could do well next season."
Gallen, along with top scorer Barry Hayles and player-of-the-year Lilian Nalis was one of the club's senior professionals this term.
He said: "You have to have the right blend of youth and experience, and I think he (Holloway) has got that at the moment."
Argyle ended the 2006/07 Championship campaign on a high by winning their last five matches.
Their 2-1 defeat of Hull City at the KC Stadium on Sunday saw them finish 11th in the table - their highest league position in 20 years.
Argyle were only eight points outside the play-offs after their storming end to the season.
Gallen said: "There are games since I have been here where we should have picked up more points than we did, but I suppose it evens itself out.
"Five wins on the spin is a good achievement in any league."
Hayles was Argyle's top scorer with 14 goals while Sylvan Ebanks-Blake ended up with 10 after a strong finish to the season.
Gallen believes the best is yet to come from Ebanks-Blake.
He said: "When I joined in January I don't think Sylvan had that many goals.
"But he has scored a lot towards the end of the season and now he has got to take that into next year and carry on from where he has left.
"He probably doesn't want the season to end."
He added: "Barry has done very well and is a real competitor. I think Sylvan can learn a lot off him."
Gallen attended QPR's annual player-of-the-year awards night in London on Sunday, only hours after playing as a substitute for Argyle against Hull.
He had been chosen by the club's supporters as QPR's player of the decade for the 2000s. The (Plymouth) Herald
