Blues close in on Doherty
This is Local London By Dave Peters
"[Wycombe] Wanderers are closing in on last season's Player of the Year midfielder Tommy Doherty.
They were yesterday discussing a transfer fee with QPR about a permanent switch for the man who was on loan at Adams Park last season.
The fee is thought to be nowhere near the £100,000 Rangers were reported to be asking last week for the want-away former Northern Ireland international.
Wycombe were originally hoping Rangers would let him go for nothing just to get him off their wage bill.
But R's chairman Gianni Paladini said: "It's very simple. We just cannot afford to let Tommy go for free."
Wanderers managing director Steve Hayes is confident a deal can be reached.
He told the Blues' official website: "What Rangers haven't pointed out is how much it would cost them in wages if Tommy was to see out the remaining 12 months of his contract. They will actually save money if they let him come to us now."This is Local London

"...Wanderers' Managing Director Steve Hayes has reassured fans that more new signings are in the pipeline as boss Paul Lambert continues to build his new-look squad.
"I know that supporters are impatient to hear about new arrivals," Steve told wwfc.com today, "but it takes time and a lot of effort to get these deals completed. We're getting close on a couple of big signings, but we're not ready to announce anything yet."
"...MD Hayes has also talked to wwfc.com about the speculation surrounding two of Wanderers' most popular players from last season, skipper Tommy Mooney and supporters' player of the year Tommy Doherty.
He told us: "Nothing has happened yet with either of them. Mooney has only just returned from holiday and now Doherty has gone off on his summer break. With Moons it's a case of finding time to sit down with him and his agent and taking it from there. The situation with Doherty is more complicated because he's still a Queens Park Rangers player and he has a year left on his contract with them...
