Briatore goes Portuguese as Sousa gets QPR job
Paulo Sousa is Flavio Briatore's shock choice as the new manager of QPR. The former Portugal midfielder, 38, has agreed a deal with Briatore after negotiations at Loftus Road.Gareth Ainsworth has been in caretaker charge since Briatore sacked Iain Dowie last month, but defeats to Burnely and Ipswich scuppered the 35-year-old's chances of getting the job on a permanent basis, although he will stay at the club in a different role.
Sousa is currently assistant to Portugal boss Carlos Queiroz and played 51 times for his country, as well as enjoying illustrious spells at Juventus, Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund.
And the Portuguese will bring the glitz and glamour Briatore wants in west London.
Briatore also considered ex-Italy boss Roberto Donadoni and former AC Milan centre-back Alessandro Costacurta for the Loftus Road hot-seat.
But the Italian has settled on Sousa, who is likely to be in the dugout for Saturday's Championship trip to Watford. Sports.co.uk
