Milton Keynes Today/James Chard - Gallen looks to cancel contract
- Striker's days in Milton Keynes are over
- Kevin Gallen's career at MK Dons is over after admitting he is now negotiating a deal to end his contract.
- The 33-year-old striker has been a hit at lowly Luton Town since signing on-loan for the League Two club in November, and says that he'd love to sign a permanent deal at Kenilworth Road.
- The ex-QPR hitman may only have scored one goal for the Hatters in nine games, but his experience and footballing brain have been integral to the side's recent resurgence.
- "I'm trying to sort myself out at Milton Keynes because I'm looking to stay here for the rest of the season," he said.
- "I need to get paid. I've got a contract at Milton Keynes until the end of July and it's a matter of sorting things out."
- Gallen finds himself behind front men Aaron Wilbraham, Sam Baldock, Ali Gerba and Tore Andre Flo in the pecking order at Dons.
- And after being told by Dons manager Roberto Di Matteo that he has no future at the club earlier this season, he is keen to carry on playing as often as possible and help the Hatters avoid the drop into non-league football.
-"I played quite regularly last season at Milton Keynes but it hasn't worked out this year. I had an operation on my toe at the start of the season and I've been playing catch up since.
- "I don't want to hang around in Milton Keynes and not play football. It's gone very well here. I've enjoyed playing and enjoyed my training.
- "I've also loved playing for a passionate crowd and just want to play until the end of the season and see what happens. I think we've still got a chance of staying up, although a lot of people don't.
- "If we stay up I would love to stay on as I've really enjoyed my time. I want to help in every way I can to keep Luton up."
- Most of the striker's time at stadium:mk has been blighted by injuries but he did make 30 appearances for the club, most of which came under Paul Ince.
- He scored eight of his nine goals for the Dons in the 2007/08 campaign, the most memorable coming in the 2-1 win against Peterborough at London Road.
- New boss Mick Harford admitted he would love to tie up a deal for Gallen for the rest of the season and beyond.
- He said: "Kevin Gallen is negotiating his contract and his compromise agreement with Milton Keynes.
- "Hopefully we can sit down with him and see if we can take him until the end of the season or longer. He has been very good for us.
- "He's a very intelligent player and good influence on others." Milton Keynes Citizen

Yeovil Express - Bircham to call it a day with Yeovil Town
INJURY-RAVAGED Yeovil Town midfielder Marc Bircham has announced that he is to retire from the game.
Bircham, who signed for the Glovers from QPR in the summer of 2007, has been sidelined for most of his time at Huish Park due to a succession of injuries.
Now Bircham has taken the decision to hang his boots up at the age of 30 after a persistent ankle injury had kept him in the treatment room since September.
Last season he was hampered by back and hamstring problems.
Bircham, who is a cult hero at former club QPR, made just 18 appearances for the Glovers during his time at Huish Park.
He told BBC Radio5 Live: "The last one and the final straw was my ankle injury.
“I would have had to have an operation that would have kept me out for five or six months and even then it was 50-50 as to whether it would have worked. So I've called it a day. Yeovil Express

Dave McIntyre/Ealing Gazette - Dexter set to pen new deal
- Striker Dexter Blackstock is close to signing a new long-term contract at QPR.
- Blackstock was recently offered a new three-and-a-half-year deal by the club and an agreement has now almost been reached.
- Further talks are set to take place on Thursday and Blackstock could put pen to paper by the time Rangers face Coventry this weekend, when Wayne Routledge is expected to make his debut following his recent £500,000 move from Aston Villa.
- Rangers are also still hoping to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson, who has been closely watched by several Premier League clubs and is waiting to see if one makes a firm move to sign him.
- But one player who could be on his way out of Loftus Road is Mikele Leigertwood. A number of clubs have been keeping tabs on him in recent weeks and Rangers will tell them they are willing to sell Leigertwood for £1million. Ealing Gazette
