Kilburn Times - Miller's ready to go up again

LIAM Miller is confident of repeating his 2007 promotion success and returning to the Premier League with QPR at the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder was an integral member of the Sunderland side that stormed into the top flight two years ago and feels Rangers have enough about them to follow suit.

Asked about his new club's promotion prospects, Miller told the Times: "I definitely think we can. If you look at the squad, we've got a really talented bunch of lads.

"I wouldn't compare QPR with other clubs I've played for, to be honest, but you look at Reading - they're flying near the top of the league and we were more than a match for them.

"I don't see any reason why we can't perform like that week in week out and move up the league. I'm just happy to be playing football again, this is what I love doing and hopefully with a few more games I can really find my form."

Miller, who began his career with Celtic and moved on to Manchester United in 2004 before signing for Sunderland, had fallen out of favour at the Stadium of Light earlier this season and Rangers paid an estimated £400,000 to bring him to Loftus Road on a short-term deal until the summer.

As well as helping to guide Roy Keane's men to the Championship title two years ago, Miller also missed out on promotion by the narrowest of margins the previous season.

The 28-year-old played in the Leeds team that crashed 3-0 to Watford in the Championship play-off final on a day when, ironically, he was in direct competition with new QPR team-mate Gavin Mahon.

But it was the injury to Miller's international team-mate Martin Rowlands that effectively opened the door for him to line up alongside Mahon at Blackpool last week and again in the home game with Reading on Saturday.

"Of course I knew both Damo [Delaney] and Rowly already and the rest of the lads have helped me to settle in really well," Miller reflected.

"I can see how disappointed everyone at the club is about what happened to Rowly. It's a horrible injury and a real blow to lose him, but I've no doubt he'll bounce back stronger and better from this."

n FORMER QPR captain Adam Bolder has finally completed his free transfer across the capital to League One promotion hopefuls Millwall.
The bustling midfielder was a huge hit when he joined Rangers two years ago from Derby, helping John Gregory's side to avoid relegation and earning the skipper's armband at the start of the following season.
But Bolder, 28, fell from favour under Gregory's successor Luigi de Canio and was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday before returning to Loftus Road last summer.
He made only one further appearance for QPR, against Carlisle in the Carling Cup, and spent two months on loan at the New Den before signing on a permanent basis last Friday. Kilburn Times


Kilburn Times - Refreshed Delaney is ready for hectic battle
- DAMIEN Delaney admits his loss of form earlier this season came as no surprise - but reckons he is almost back to his best now.

The QPR left-back was dropped in November after a number of patchy performances, but regained his place in the side and has held onto it despite the arrival of Gary Borrowdale from Coventry.

"I don't get upset about that and I feel I'm getting there," said the 27-year-old Irishman. "With the hectic season we've got, you're not going to play well every game.

"There was a stage when we were playing every midweek for four or five weeks and of course there are a lot more games still to be played.

"I didn't have much of a break last summer - I was away with Ireland for three weeks, back in at QPR at the end of June and then I did a full pre-season.

"So if you look at my record, I played an awful lot of games over the last year and I was expecting to have a little bit of a drop physically. We're not machines and we can't keep going at the same level," he added.

Delaney could be in midweek action again next Wednesday - he is in the Republic of Ireland squad for their World Cup qualifying clash with Georgia at Croke Park.

Recent QPR signing Liam Miller is also included in the Irish squad, while Heidar Helguson and Damion Stewart should line up in friendlies for Iceland against Liechtenstein and Jamaica against Nigeria respectively." Kilburn Times
