Sky Sports/Peter Beagrie - Top six appeal?
- The next two games are going to be key if Ipswich or QPR want to give themselves a realistic opportunity of getting into the play-offs.
- This is the time to show your intent. The two sides meet on Saturday evening, then QPR play fourth-placed Preston and Ipswich play fifth-placed Cardiff. Both sides need to take four out of six points if they want to make the top six.
- Saturday's game could potentially provide a springboard towards a play-off spot. I'm not saying the loser will be out of the hunt, but it would be increasingly difficult because the points clock is ticking away.
- Ipswich are 10th and QPR are 11th and there is no reason why they can't push on into the top six. But if you look at the three teams directly above them I just think they may be better equipped.
- A lot of people think very highly of Ipswich and the way they play football so I would think it strange that Jim has started to come under pressure at this moment in time.
Peter Beagrie Quotes of the week
QPR v IPSWICH TOWN
5.15pm, Sat, Sky Sports 1&HD1
I think Swansea can hit you from all angles, I think Bristol City are more strong and resolute than either QPR or Ipswich and I think Burnley are a better side as well.
- Ipswich are not as prolific or free-flowing as last year, but I do think they overachieved in many games last season. Particularly at home they put some teams to the sword and it was fantastic to watch.
- They have addressed the problem of their poor away from to a degree, but like QPR they have drawn too many games. They have been held by the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth, Coventry and Blackpool of late - and you need to be beating those teams if you endeavour to get one of those play-off places.
- Jim Magilton will be concerned that the invincibility that they had at home last year isn't there. They've drawn seven home games and I'm sure five of those would have been wins if they had last year's confidence.
- Jim has been very unfortunate with suspensions and injuries this year and it would be unfair to say he has underachieved. He has quite a young side and I'm surprised to hear some supporters are starting to question Jim's position
- I'd be more concerned if I was a QPR fan because Ipswich have had less money and are a place above them. Ipswich still have realistic play-off hopes and are yet to hit their full potential.
- I think Jim's done a very good job since he's been there and I think he's doing as well as he could be expected to. A lot of people think very highly of Ipswich and the way they play football so I would think it strange that Jim has started to come under pressure at this moment in time.
-Everybody expected QPR to be among the promotion chasers, but I never saw it like that. I thought that with all the changes they wouldn't have enough continuity or consistency to challenge.
- They have made themselves a hard side to beat but they lack the flair players we all expected to arrive when Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone took over.
- For me, they are having a very good season and are currently lying in the position they should be in. I just think too many people had unrealistic expectations over where they would finish.
- With QPR having drawn five of the last seven, a draw is maybe the likely result on Saturday. However, it is such an important game that both teams might be tempted to be a bit more adventurous in this game than the ones that follow.
A draw would not be a great result for either manager and both teams will see this as an opportunity for three points.
- That sixth play-off spot is still up for grabs and the next two games will tell us a lot about whether Ipswich or QPR have what it takes to claim it. Sky Sports
IPSWICH OFFICIAL SITE - KEVIN [LISBIE] BACK FOR QPR
- Kevin Lisbie is set to return to full training on Friday after recovering from a back injury but Gareth McAuley is a concern for Blues.
- Striker Kevin missed the win over Nottingham Forest last night after tweaking his back while warming up on the sidelines during Blues' draw with Blackpool last weekend.
- "Kevin has done some light work today and will train fully on Friday and should be fine for the QPR game," Town physio Matt Byard told the Club website.
- "Gareth is a concern for us in that he picked up a calf injury towards the end of the Forest game. He took a knock when he made that tackle that prevented them equalising.
- "It was very sore after the game but it's improved overnight and we will see how he is on Friday. It will be a late call on him I would think."
- Danny Haynes is definitely out of the trip to Loftus Road with a hamstring injury. Ipswich
Huw Turberville/Telegraph re QPR
- "...QPR are better-placed than Palace, meanwhile, with four more points.
Manager Paulo Sousa has made a promising start since arriving in mid-season, and hopes Spanish midfielder Jordi Lopez could be the final piece in the jigsaw that ensures they makes the play-offs.
Lopez, 27, has initially joined on a three-month deal, and Souza said: "Jordi is a very, very capable player and will give us great options in the middle of the park. He can play central or wide and is technically a very good player." Telegraph
