QPR Official Site - EXCLUSIVE: SPANIARD SIGNS
- Queens Park Rangers Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Spanish midfielder Jordi López.
- The 27 year-old, who is a free agent following his release from Real Mallorca in December, has penned a three month deal with the R's.
- Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Paulo Sousa believes López's arrival will add to the already healthy options he has in his midfield department: "Jordi is a very, very capable player and will give us great options in the middle of the park.
- "He can play central or wide and is technically a very good player. He is a very creative midfielder, and we are looking forward to welcoming him into our family."
- López - who will wear the number 20 shirt for the R's - began his career in the successful Barcelona and Real Madrid B squads.
- After featuring twice for Madrid's First Team in the 2003/04 campaign, he moved to Sevilla, with whom he won the UEFA Cup, netting in the Andalusian's 1-0 victory against Lokomotiv Moscow on route to the Final.
- In total, López made 37 starts for Sevilla, scoring twice, before moving to Real Mallorca in 2006. He went on to make 24 appearances for Mallorca, before being loaned out to Racing Santander.
- During his time at the Estadio El Sardinero, López helped the Racinguistas achieve their first-ever UEFA Cup qualification. QPR
QPR Official Site - LÓPEZ: I'M READY FOR BATTLE
Jordi López is determined to repay the faith shown in him by QPR after the Club signed the former Real Mallorca midfielder until the end of the season.
"I have always liked English football, and have wanted to play in this country for a long time," the 27 year-old revealed to www.qpr.co.uk.
"QPR have now given me the opportunity to do this, and it is my aim to show the Club that they have made the right decision by granting me this chance."
Having trained with the squad this week, López - pictured in action against former Club Real Madrid - says he is excited by the quality of his new team-mates.
"I have been very impressed," he said.
"It is clear how focused and determined they are to be successful. Now I want to play my part."
A stylish player, López learned his craft with the Barcelona and Real Madrid B squads before going on to win the UEFA Cup with Sevilla.
He is quick to point out, however, that he is ready for the rough and tumble of Championship football.
"Being a creative player doesn't mean I can't handle the fight and the more physical side of the English game," he said.
"I am ready for that and just want to get on with doing my best for QPR, because I know there is not much time for me to adapt, as there's only three months left of the season."
With the R's positioned just outside the top-six, it could prove to be an eventful finish to the campaign, and López added: "My motivation is at the highest possible point.
"I am ready to play my part in helping the Club reach the play-offs. That is the target for us all."
Swindon Advertiser/Anthony Marshall -No 'Wardrobe' malfunctions as Kanyuka prepares for reunion
- TOWN’S new midfield enforcer is hoping to give his mentor a dressing down at the New Den tonight, as he returns to the ground where he started his football apprenticeship.
- Dubbed “The Wardrobe” by teammate Simon Cox, after his likeness to Portsmouth midfielder Papa Bouba Diop, Patrick Kanyuka admits he is still coming to terms with his new role after making the recent switch from defence.
- But the 21-year-old might not have been playing professional football at all had it not been for Millwall assistant manager Joe Gallen.
- Kanyuka began his career as an apprentice at the New Den, but after a short switch to Leyton Orient, Gallen took him to QPR when he was youth team boss at Loftus Road.
- Swindon’s Congolese international admits he has a lot to thank his former manager for but is relishing the chance to put one over him and pick up another three points for his current employers.
“It’s familiar territory up there,” admitted Kanyuka.
“I was at Millwall as an academy player, and their assistant Joe Gallen brought me through at QPR.
“Joe’s a good bloke, fun to have around and it will be good to catch up.
“He found a lot of youngsters. At QPR he brought them from nowhere and got them somewhere. We all came through at the same time, so it was a good achievement.
“I’ve got a lot to thank him for and have got a lot of time for him. He’s really done well for other people and myself.
“When I was at Millwall I never got to play at the New Den because I left when I was 16.
“Tony Craig was a bit older, but he’s the only one still there. The rest have all moved on - guys like Cherno Samba and Marvin Elliott.”
- Kanyuka admits he is still learning the ropes as a midfielder, but he believes the confidence spreading through Swindon’s dressing room can help them go to play-off chasers Millwall and get a result.
- “I’m just grafting and learning game by game.” he said. “A couple of weeks ago it was Chrissy Allen talking me through it and now it’s Tims (Michael Timlin).
- “The manager’s shown faith in me so I’m just going to do my best for the team and for him. I’m just doing a job and really want to play.
- “We’ve got nothing to fear against any team in this league.
- “We’ve had some bad results, but the new gaffer has brought a lot of good things in so it’s all positive from now.
- “He’s got us in a fearless mental frame of mind, and we’re playing with confidence which is a big factor.” Swindon Advertiser
