QPR Official Site - UNDER-18'S HEAD TO SARDINIA
- QPR Under-18s will swap the bread and butter of the Puma Youth Alliance League for the first ever Trofeo Sardegno tournament, in the Sardinian town of Olbia, next weekend.
- The young R's, who are firing on all cylinders in both League and Cup competitions, will lock horns with some of the best sides in the World in the nine team competition.
- Spanish giants Real Madrid top the list, along with their local rivals Atletico, whilst Italian quintet Cagliari, Empoli, Atalanta, Chievo Verona and Torino and German side TSV Munchen 1860 complete the line-up.
- Three groups of three teams will make up the initial group stages, with Rangers paired with Torino and TSV Munchen 1860. The three group winners and best placed runner-up will then contest the semi-final and final.
- This is the second prestigious youth tournament that the young Rs have participated in this season, having previously played in the Viareggio Cup back in February, and Coach Keith Ryan is once again relishing the opportunity.
- "This is another fantastic opportunity for us to pitch ourselves up against some top European opposition and it gives the lads some great experience," he told www.qpr.co.uk
- "In Viareggio, we more than matched Inter Milan, but then let ourselves down against Palermo where we didn't perform as a team.
- "But I'm really looking forward to going. It's a break from the league, where we're still well placed despite our recent defeat to Southend and when we come back we've got a Cup Final to look forward to as well. It's certainly exciting times ahead." QPR
