South Wales Echo - Mark Bloom - Football News QPR target Cardiff City boss Dave Jones
- QUEENS PARK RANGERS have made Cardiff City boss Dave Jones one of their main targets for the managerial vacancy at Loftus Road, the Echo can reveal.
- Jones, who has come in for some heavy criticism after his failure to keep the Bluebirds in the Championship top six, is on a hit-list of candidates drawn up by bosses at the London club.
- Big-spending QPR want a steady pair of hands to stabilise the ship after their own failure to make the Championship play-offs this season.
- QPR have had SEVEN managers in two seasons, Gareth Ainsworth (twice), Paulo Sousa, Ian Dowie, Luigi De Canio, Mick Harford and John Gregory.
- They still haven’t landed the right man and with money no object, QPR believe they could prise Jones away from South Wales.
- The club is owned by Formula One tycoons Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore. An insider said: “The club believes Jones has done a decent job at Cardiff and has a proven track record at this level.”
- Jones has taken the brunt of the public backlash after City’s season, which promised so much, ended in a whimper at Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.
- There have been many calls for his head, but Jones’ backers have been equally vociferous in declaring they want him to remain at the Cardiff helm.
- Jones is believed to have been hurt, and shocked by the volume of criticism which has been directed his way.
- But he is settled in the Cardiff area and is keen to give it one more season to accomplish his ambition of taking City into the Premier League.
- But QPR might be ready to test that resolve, if they decide on making an official approach." WalesonLine
