Croydon Advertiser - Breaking news: Warnock pens new deal
- Crystal Palace will announce that manager Neil Warnock has signed a one-year contract extension later today (Friday), the Advertiser can reveal.
- The Selhurst Park club will confirm at a press conference at their Beckenham-based training ground later this afternoon that the Yorkshireman has agreed a deal that will see his current deal, which was due to expire at the end of next season, extended by another 12 months.
- Warnock’s new contract will run to the end of the 2010/11 season.
The news ends speculation that the former Sheffield United manager was set to quit the south London club.
Speculation has linked him with the managerial roles at QPR and Ipswich Town in recent weeks.
- Speaking to the Advertiser yesterday (Thursday), Warnock said: “I’ve spoken to the chairman (Simon Jordan) and I’ve told him just how happy I am here, particularly with the fans.
- “So I’ve decided to commit myself to another year.
- “The biggest factor in my decision has been the fans.
- "I think they know that I’m the best person to turn it round and push it in the other direction."

Croydon ADvertiser/Richard Cawley - Warnock: Fans made me sign new deal
- NEIL Warnock has ended any doubts over his future by agreeing a 12-month extension at Crystal Palace.
- And the Eagles manager, who will now be at Selhurst Park until 2011, says the support shown by the club’s fans was vitally important in him putting pen to paper.
- Warnock, who has been linked with vacancies at Ipswich and QPR in recent weeks, said: “There has been so much talk about other clubs and I just thought it made sense to do this now so that there is stability and things don’t just blow up in everyone’s face like the last few months at Charlton.
- “When you look at the teams coming down from the Premier League, the sides coming up and the likes of Ipswich and QPR are all going to have masses of money and probably our best chance will be by me giving a bit of stability which will help with getting players in.
- “But the main reason for signing is the fans - it’s amazing how supportive they have been. They understand the plight we’re in and that I’m probably the best person to get them out of that.
- “One of my mates is a Palace fan and keeps asking for me to have another year - and my kids were putting me under pressure too because they are loving it in London as well.”
