QPR Official Site - ROWLANDS RETAINS CAPTAINCY
- Martin Rowlands will again lead QPR in the forthcoming season, after boss Jim Magilton confirmed the midfield maestro will skipper his side for the 2009/10 campaign.
- Rowlands was - in the words of Magilton - 'the unanimous choice' for the role and the R's gaffer has every faith in his captain.
- "We're very fortunate in that, in this group of players, we have a lot of very strong characters," he told www.qpr.co.uk.
- "Martin will wear the armband when selected, but we're lucky to have a lot of leaders all over the park.
- "If Martin isn't around for one reason or another, I know I can rely on other players to step forward and take the armband on, but Martin was the unanimous choice with the entire coaching staff."
- Magilton clearly rates the midfielder's leadership qualities, but also believes he is a 'very, very good footballer,' adding: "Martin has been here a very long time, but he is also a very, very good player.
- "He's someone that people look up to and whilst it's never an easy decision, he ticked all the boxes." QPR
