UPDATE: - Dave McIntyre/Kilburn Times - Birch in line to fill the breach
- Former QPR player Marc Bircham could be asked to take charge of the team for Monday night's game at West Brom following the suspension of Jim Magilton.

Manager Magilton has been told to stay away from the club, whose board are discussing his future following a run of poor results and an incident after this week's 3-1 defeat against Watford.

Magilton was involved in an angry exchange with midfielder Akos Buzsaky, which prompted a furious reaction from a number of other Rangers players.

Assistant manager John Gorman and coach Keith Ryan have both indicated that they are not willing to take caretaker charge in his absence.

Bircham, 31, made over 150 league appearances for QPR and retired from playing last year following persistent injury problems.

He is currently a youth coach at Loftus Road, working with Steve Gallen - brother of ex-R's forward Kevin Gallen and himself a former QPR youth player.

Gareth Ainsworth, who has had two spells as caretaker manager, is currently on loan at League One club Wycombe.

Magilton, 40, was appointed in the summer after QPR's players indicated that they wanted an English-speaking boss with Championship experience.

Approaches were made for a number of other managers before Magilton, who had recently been sacked by Ipswich, was handed the reins.

Former Reading boss Steve Coppell was among them but made it clear he wanted to take a break from football, while ex-West Ham manager Alan Curbishley was not interested.

Other managers considered were with other clubs, including Sheffield United's Kevin Blackwell, Coventry's Chris Coleman and controversial Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock.

The club also considered re-appointing former coach Luigi De Canio, with Ainsworth effectively acting as joint manager alongside the Italian.

De Canio left QPR in May 2008 after seven months at the club and was a strong contender for the job before Magilton was eventually installed on a two-year contract, pipping former Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd - now in charge at Colchester - to the job.

After a troubled start, Magilton guided Rangers into the top six with a blistering run in October.

But recent results have been disappointing, and the defeat at Watford followed a 5-1 mauling at home to Middlesbrough on Saturday. Kilburn Times

QPR Official Site -AKOS BUZSAKY
- The Club can categorically deny that midfielder Akos Buzsaky has handed in a transfer request.
- Despite reports to the contrary, Buzsaky has not handed in a transfer request.
- Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, the Hungarian international said: "It is not true at all.
- "I am entirely focused on our next fixture against West Bromwich Albion on Monday night.
"We are in a strong position just three points outside the play-off's and as professional footballers our sole aim is to focus on the upcoming matches." -

POTENTIAL REPLACEMENTS?

Paul Warburton/London Informer -Magilton suspended as Coppell and Curbishley move into QPR pole position
- STEVE Coppell and Alan Curbishley have moved into pole position to become QPR's ninth manager in three years after Jim Magilton was sensationally suspended.
- QPR bosses were hoping Akos Buzsaky would have accepted an apology from Jim Magilton at least until after the away trip to WBA on Monday night - but the club have acted anyway to stop the rot of a lost dressing room.
- The Hungarian winger discussed things with his agent after allegedly being headbutted by the Irishman in the furore that is the fall-out from the extraordinary scenes after the 3-1 defeat at Watford on Monday.
- However, former Reading boss Coppell has already been lined-up as replacement, with Curbishley also in the running having settled his pay-off with West Ham.
- Both were sounded out in the summer before Magilton got the job.
- Chairman Flavio Briatore and his staff were more concerned the former Ipswich Town boss had lost the faith of players as well as Buzsaky, whose agent spent three hours on the phone to the Hoops’ hierarchy discussing his client’s situation.
- The choice of substitutes, the lack of fight as Rs surrendered to the Hornets having going ahead, and goalscorer Patrick Agyemang’s non-celebration of a goal that put his side ahead, were all on the agenda as Briatore returned from abroad.
- The club’s supremo has been kept appraised of the situation almost on an hourly basis, and watched the defeat on TV – the second in two days with QPR shipping eight goals in the process.
- Buzsaky came out of the dressing room, humiliated and forced to wander the stand among reporters and Watford staff for 30 minutes before assistant boss John Gorman came out to usher his player back inside.
- Players were banned from speaking to the media as they emerged an hour after a shouting match that’s understood to have some of the squad including Agyemang not only shouting back at Magilton - but squaring up to him as well.
- A senior player said: "It was a right barney in there. This sort of thing happens from time to time at a club – but this is the second time in three matches – with the first at Doncaster a couple of weeks back. After a bit, it loses its effect."
- The players and Magilton had the day off on Tuesday, and the frosty atmosphere at the training ground yesterday only heightened the need to suspend Magilton, with Gorman's future uncertain.
- The irony is that Magilton's departure before the televised game at WBA on Monday comes just over two years since John Gregory was sacked following the farce of a 5-1 defeat at none other than the same club. London Informer
