Stoke Sentinel - Crewe Alex: Rangers poised for Zola swoop
- CHAMPIONSHIP play-off pretenders QPR are eyeing up a transfer window swoop for Crewe striker Calvin Zola.
It is understood the moneybags Londoners are already preparing a deal for the Alex's leading scorer, although it will be conditional on the price they are prepared to pay.
Crewe gave Tranmere £200,000 for Zola in the summer of 2008, but Championship strugglers Peterborough were recently quoted a £1m price tag.
Rangers's new boss Paul Hart is unlikely to be given such financial leeway to sign a League Two player, who will face competition from Patrick Agyemang and Rowan Vine.
However, with Crewe facing further cuts to their wage budget, Zola would appear to be the club's most saleable asset.
The Congo-born player has not hit the back of the net in the past six games.
But the striker, who will be 25 on New Year's Eve, has previously fired seven goals in six games to contribute to his best goal tally in his seven seasons of English football..." Sentinel
