When Saturday Comes (WSC) - Chris Hasker
Gloomy times for Paul Hart at QPR

- 13 January ~ Flavio Briatore made his return to Loftus Road last night, fresh from overturning his lifetime ban from Formula One. "Unimpressed" best described his expression as his side made it 14 FA Cup games without a win, a run including defeats to Luton, Grimsby and the "mighty Vauxhall Motors". Manager Paul Hart was again booed by a sparse crowd of 5,780 as they lost to Sheffield Utd. However, as the Sun and Mirror were quick to point out, X Factor twins Jedward were on hand to boost the numbers slightly.
- The Sun's Vikki Orvice described Hart's ordeal as worse than "being forced to watch the tone-deaf duo", a criticism that is hard to disagree with based on Hart's own evaluation and backing in the Telegraph and Daily Mail of the match being "a disaster". Adel Taarabt played the moody teenager role for the night by sulking through the second half after being told he couldn't take the penalty he had won. On the messageboards, fed-up fans were unanimous in calls for him to simply "grow up", while others called for Tottenham to take him back. Chris Hasker. When Saturday Comes

SKY SPORTS/Chris Galea - Quashie would 'love' QPR offer
Midfielder waiting for West Ham future to be resolved
- West Ham United midfielder Nigel Quashie says there has been no contact from Queens Park Rangers, but would 'love' to see an offer from his former club.
- Skysports.com understands QPR are lining up a bid to bring Quashie back to Loftus Road, where he started his career.
- He has recently completed a loan spell in League One with MK Dons and is waiting to hold talks with West Ham before finding out if QPR will firm up their interest.
- "There hasn't been any contact from the club (QPR) so far, but the scenario at West Ham needs to be sorted out first," Quashie told skysports.com.
- "I reckon it is just a matter of time before I move on, but whether that will be going back to QPR is another thing.
- "It is a club that I love and where I started out as a kid, so it is a club close to my heart. I still try and go to watch them play as often as I can and have been a supporter since childhood.
- "The club means everything to me and so to be linked with them is a great feeling. I know what the supporters want there because I am a fan myself, so it is a fantastic football club and I'd love to see an offer from them on the table."
- Patient
- The 31-year-old is keen to get his future sorted out, but understands the Hammers' current worries are far greater than his own.
- He added: "I'm just in the process of speaking to West Ham in respect to my long-term future.
- "If that means leaving the club then so be it, but there is a lot of speculation at the club in the moment in terms of takeover bids etc, so I'm just going to have to be patient with that.
- "The club is going through a transitional period at the moment and my future isn't at the top of their priorities at the moment." Skysport-

Brian Glanville on QPR
"...With one bound, Flavio Briatore was free. Or something of the sort. A French appeal court overturned the ban placed on him by a sloppily careless Formula 1 for planning Piquet’s crash, though F1 will now it seems, appeal in their turn.
This at least means, for the moment at least, that Briatore, no longer disqualified at Formula 1, won’t therefore be excluded as a QPR director by the Football League.
- Yet you do wonder what’s going on at Queens Park Rangers, where millionaires, even billionaires, don’t seem to spend and managers come and quickly go through a revolving door.
- Hardly had the competent Paul Hart been installed as manager than there are stories that he is due to be replaced by Alan Curbishley or even the returning Italian from Matera, Luigi De Canio, who did a perfectly respectable job when in charge at Shepherd’s Bush, guiding them away from relegation." World Soccer

Also: Brian Glanville: Briatore's QPR Future Still In Doubt
- Meanwhile, flamboyant Flavio Briatore, suspended from Formula One racing after plotting the deliberate crash by Nelson Piquet Jr., may not yet be out of the wood. A French court has overturned his F1 suspension, which means he can still go on running Queens Park Rangers, but now F1 are to appeal in their turn.
- QPR, who has only just appointed competent Paul Hart, ex Portsmouth, as their manager, are supposedly thinking of bringing in Alan Curbishley, ex West Ham. But why? And if Briatore is eventually thrown out of soccer, where will the money come from? The two billionaires, Lakshmi Mittal and Bernie Ecclestone, aren't putting any in, and the QPR transfer policy is strictly one of getting players on loan" Football Fanhouse

No QPR in the 2010 Viareggio World Youth Tournament
Unlike last year, this year, for whatever reason, QPR are not taking part in the Viareggio Youth Tournament.

January 13, 2009 - Daily Mail - QPR can stay where they are unless they splash the cash
- QPR are not showing much ambition in the transfer market are they?
While their Premier League equivalents, Manchester City, place bid after bid for a series of half-decent players, the richest club in the Championship seem to have concentrated on turning loans into permanent deals, snapping up those judged unworthy of the top flight.
- Helguson (right) isn't the answer for a team eyeing promotion
Perhaps that shouldn't be sniffed at with the prophets of doom warning of impending financial meltdown in the game, but before Tuesday night's FA Cup replay with Burnley they were on a run of five draws from the last six matches - and some of their new signings took part in those.
Rangers' position in the Championship table is none too promising and they are in desperate need of inspiration.
If Rangers' super-rich owners are serious about promotion they would be bringing in players who could get them up and keep them there.
- Wayne Routledge might just do the business but Gary Borrowdale will hardly get the fans off their seats and there is a good reason that Heidar Helguson and Lee Cook are no longer playing in the Premier League, where QPR aspire to be - they are not good enough. Mail
