BBC - QPR look to offload Italian pair
- QPR have told Italian duo Matteo Alberti and Alessandro Pellicori they have no future at Loftus Road.
- Winger Alberti, 21, who signed a four-year contract when he joined the west London club from Chievo in 2008, has started just six league games.
- He is expected to leave Rangers in the near future along with Pellicori, who has scored just once in 10 games.
- Pellicori, a 28-year-old striker, was signed on a three-year contract from Avellino in the summer. BBC

Dave McIntyre/Kilburn Times - Quashie set for Rangers return

NIGEL Quashie could be on his way back to QPR, who are also closing in on the signing of Portsmouth goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown.

Quashie, sold to Nottingham Forest for £2.5m in 1998, has recently been on loan at MK Dons from West Ham.

Rangers had the opportunity to take him on loan earlier in the season but decided against the move, partly because of concerns over his fitness.

But Quashie has impressed for Milton Keynes and Rs manager Paul Hart is interested in signing him.

Rangers are likely to take the player on a contract until the end of the season if he can agree his release from West Ham, where he is out of the first-team picture.

It would be a similar deal to last term's signings of Jordi Lopez and Liam Miller, whose stay at the club was ultimately not extended.

Quashie told the Times only last month: "QPR is a club that I love dearly, they are my club and I still go and watch them when I can."

Hart is also close to securing the services of Portsmouth reserve stopper Ashdown, whose Fratton Park contract expires later this year.

Ashdown, 29, has made three first-team appearances for the Premier League club this season and could replace Radek Cerny in goal for Rangers' home match against Plymouth on Saturday if a deal to sign him can be agreed.

Rangers have also made enquires about striker Danny Webber - signed for Portsmouth by Hart last summer - and Stoke's out-of-favour midfielder Amdy Faye.

Hull's Caleb Folan, a perennial QPR target in the last year or so, is again being considered now the transfer window has opened, but he is currently nursing an injury.

Rangers have also expressed an interest in taking Fulham forward David Elm on trial ahead of a possible move.

The Swedish target man, who turns 27 this week, joined Fulham in the summer but has made only one first-team appearance.

Meanwhile, Italian duo Matteo Alberti and Alessandro Pellicori have been told they have no future at QPR.

Winger Alberti, who signed a four-year contract in 2008, has been offered to a number of Italian lower league clubs.

Striker Pellicori, who moved to west London earlier this year, is also set for a move back home after failing to make an impact

DNA - Mumbai lads off to Queens Park Rangers
DNA CorrespondentMonday, January 4, 2010

Billionaire Mittal is a part owner of first division English club Queens Park Rangers where these two Mumbai lads will go for six weeks of training.

In a pool of over 200 players from the city, Vahanvaty, for his impressive midfield skills and Fernandes, an athletically built defender, stood out from the lot.

Both 13-year-olds will get an opportunity to train with their counterparts at the QPR. “If they are good enough they may even get an opportunity to represent the club in the future,” academy coach Stephen Gallen said.

Ishan Saksena, CEO of QPR academy, said the club’s intent is to unearth talent from places where it is least expected from.
Expectedly, both teenagers were excited about the opportunity. Fernandes and Vahanvaty are in eighth standard and study in St Paul’s HS and St Mary’s HS, respectively.

“I think the attention to details in their training will make a huge difference in my game,” said an articulate Vahanvaty. Shaun appeared overwhelmed and all he could say was that he wanted this stint to help him don Indian colours.

But this isn’t their first taste of international exposure. While Shaun had been to Barcelona for a youth programme by his club Kenkre FC, this will be Vahanvaty’s second trip to London. He had previously been there for a 10-day training programme with an academy through his club PIFA.

Both have represented Maharashtra for under-13 and will leave today for the Maharashtra U-14 cap. Vahanvaty has also donned national colours for U-13 category and Mahindra United have made an approach for the Lionel Messi fan. " DNA

Three Year Flashback - Gregory hails Chelsea union
Clubcall: January 4, 2007 - John Gregory is hopeful Queens Park Rangers can maintain their union with Premiership champions Chelsea after picking up Jimmy Smith and Michael Mancienne.
The on-loan Blues pair have shone for Rangers this term despite an inconsistent season and Gregory has constantly sung the pair's praises.
And the R's boss is hopeful the arrival of the pair is the first step of a developing relationship.
- "The relationship we have with Chelsea is a thriving one," said Gregory.
"They conduct themselves particularly well with us and have shown us tremendous respect.
"Chelsea have a representative watching Jimmy and Michael at every one of our games.
"Jimmy and Michael play with so much passion for Rangers. They are not even our players, which proves that they are fantastic professionals." Clubcall

October 4, 2008" Telegraph/Jeremy Wilson -Ray Wilkins fears billionaires will cost QPR
"...QPR is very much a family club and it would be lovely to think you could always keep that identity," said Wilkins. "But if Bernie Ecclestone and Briatore are serious in what they are doing you could lose that little bit of the heart and family atmosphere that belongs to Loftus Road.
"A lot of these guys - not so much Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore - have a lot of money but are not known in the world. The one way they can be known is to buy a football club because they will be straight on the back page of every newspaper in the country.
"But they are extremely successful businessmen and I wouldn't have thought they are going into this too lightly. They have bought Luigi de Canio from Italy as manager; he's obviously a man who knows his stuff, and the results in the last couple of weeks would bear that out..."
