DONCASTER OFFICIAL SITE - O'DRISCOLL READY FOR QPR
Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll is hoping to name an unchanged line-up from the side that swept past Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday evening, as his side take on Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Saturday afternoon.
O'Driscoll's side gave Wednesday a footballing lesson at Hillsborough on Tuesday evening, and despite a few knocks in training since the South Yorkshire derby victory, the manager expects all his players to be fit for the clash against Mick Harford's R's.
"Everybody is okay," said Sean in his pre-match press conference.
"We have a few bumps and bruises and four or five of the players have not trained. However, with the amount of games that we have had, that is not a huge concern. Elliott Ward just had a little bit of a bang to his knee but that seems to have settled down. James Chambers has had a little bit of a tight calf and it's just the usual stuff. With numbers so few at the moment, we are just trying to wrap people in cotton wool. Everybody should be okay for the weekend."
This weekend, Rovers take on a Queens Park Rangers side that has seen eleven changes of manager since the arrival of Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore as the new Queens Park Rangers - a statistic that the Rovers manager can not understand.
"They have had some good managers and, for some reason, got rid of them - you don't quite understand why. They have a good manager now in Mick Harford who has been there, done it and is not going to get carried away if they lose a few, nor is going to get carried away if he wins a few. He knows what he needs to do, he has been at both ends of the table and he has vast experience. At some point, they are going to have to lay their hat with somebody. I spoke with Jim Magilton in the close season about certain things and with John Gorman; I thought that they were a good pair together. Like I say, you look at it from the outside and you think that this is how not to run a football club."
"They have some excellent players, some good professionals and some talented boys. Their squad is as good as anything and it shows that you need everything right - you can't just rely on one thing. The whole club needs to be in sync if you are going to achieve anything." Doncaster
South Yorkshire star - Managerial changes have hit Hoops' fortunes
By Steve Hossack
QUEENS Park Rangers will have their third manger this season at the helm when they entertain Doncaster Rovers at Loftus Road tomorrow.
Jim Magilton was in charge when Rovers posted a 2-0 win over the Hoops back in November thanks to goals by Billy Sharp and Dean Shiels, but Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll will do battle with Mick Harford in the return,
That will not be the only difference
Whereas Rangers were flying high in fourth place when the two sides last met, and looking a good bet for at least a play-off spot, they now face being dragged into the relegation dogfight after going nine games without a win.
A point not lost on Harford.
"We've got to hold our heads up high, roll our sleeves up, stick our chests out and turn our season around," he said this week.
"I hope that we can achieve that against a Doncaster team who will be hard to beat."
O'Driscoll is not normally one who goes out of his way to criticise other clubs and admits that he hasn't any first-hand knowledge of Rangers' affairs and bases his opinion on the rumours circulating within the game.
"I might be completely wrong, but looking on from the outside it seems to me that they are a great example of how not to run a fooball club," said O'Driscoll.
"They have got some really good players and they are not a bunch of people who don't care.
"I think that they they have been badly let down by the people who run it.
"You can't just swop managers when things don't go well becase the only inevitability in football is that things don't go well.
"It looks as soon as somebody loses a few games they get somebody else in. It just seems crazy.
"If you look at their team, and their squad, they've not got some tremendous players. but they have got some really good professionals who you can rely on and trust - they need a bit of support as well.
"Unlike some other clubs, the people who run QPR are genuine people and are people with money.
"But I don't think that you can run a football club like you can a racing car; it doesn't work that way." Star
