QPR Official Site - COOK: 'IT FELT GREAT TO BE BACK'
Posted on: Wed 03 Feb 2010
Lee Cook has revealed his delight at returning to First Team action following a long spell on the sidelines.
The R's fans' favourite entered the fray with 15 minutes to go against Sc*n*horpe United at Loftus Road on Saturday, and produced a cameo display, rolling back the years with a series of sublime touches and pin-point crosses.
Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Cook spoke of his pride at pulling on the famous Blue and White hooped jersey once again.
"Just to hear the fans cheer my name in the warm-up would have been enough, but to get on for the last quarter of an hour or so was magic," he said.
"I felt great out there. I felt fit, sharp and comfortable on the ball.
"I managed to get a few crosses in as well, so it's another hugely positive step in the right direction for me."
After two Reserve outings and Saturday's brief appearance against The Iron, Cook is now in determined mood to nail down a starting berth against Peterborough United this weekend.
"That would be the next step for me," he said.
"I'm keen to start matches as soon as possible, but ultimately that decision rests with Mick (Harford) and the medical department.
"However, I feel as though I'm ready, so we'll just have to wait and see."
Cook describes the news of Mark Cooper's departure and Jim Gannon's subsequent appointment at Posh as 'sod's law' for the R's, but insists the 'new Manager syndrome' won't affect him and his team-mates.
"It sums up our luck really doesn't it," he said.
"They'll all be going that extra yard to impress their new gaffer, but we still believe we have the quality to go there and get a result.
"We did okay against Sc*n*horpe and definitely deserved to get something from the game, so we'll head their in determined mood." QPR
