Yann Tear/Ealing Gazette 'I'm happy with Norwich point' says QPR boss
- NEIL WARNOCK (pictured) declared himself satisfied with Rangers' solitary point against Norwich – saying his team are just as likely to win away as at home.
Rangers shaded a tight encounter at Loftus Road, even if the visitors missed a first half penalty, but had to be content with a second successive 0-0 draw on home soil.
- “I think away from home is as good as at home nowadays for a lot of teams. I'd definitely prefer to play Norwich away from home if I'm honest,” the Rangers boss said.
- “They'll have to come out a lot more with the home fans there and I don't see any reason why we shouldn't enjoy ourselves away from home.
- “We have two tough away games this week [for instance], but they'll be tough for our opponents as well.”
- Warnock added: “I thought it was a good game today. We put some good balls in but there was not enough devilment to get on the end of it really. But I was pleased and I enjoyed it.
- “It was end to end stuff and you don't normally get 0-0 draws like that, with teams trying to win it.”
- Rangers have now gone nine hours without conceding a goal in the league at home – a missed penalty from Norwich's Wes Hooliham ensuring a sixth clean sheet on home soil.
- It may not have rewarded the best crowd at QPR for six years, but the manager was not about to complain.
- “You don't get the clean sheets we've got without working hard at it and that's all credit to the lads who are there,”said Warnock. “If you can't score, the next best thing is a clean sheet and I'm delighted.”
- Kyle walker earned special praise for the danger he provided going forward at every opportunity.
- “Kyle enjoys himself,” Warnock said. “We gave him a bit more freedom today to come into midfield and bomb on from there and I thought he did very well today in that role.” Ealing Gazette

Mirror - Neil Warnock is back on top of the world these days.
The Rangers boss has not forgotten how it all ended for him when he was manager of his beloved

Sheffield United and they were controversially relegated at the end of the 2007 campaign.

It was a painful end to Warnock’s seven-and-a-half year stint at Bramall Lane, but the smile is back on his face as he looks certain to get the chance of a return to the Premier League with Rangers.

Warnock breezed into Loftus Road in March and immediately vowed to Hoops vice-chairman Amit Bhatia that promotion is the only target – and so far he looks set to deliver.

Warnock declared: “I want to go up this year. I told Amit Bhatia when I came here ‘look, I’m not a manager who will say it’s going to take me two or three years’. I need to go back this year because I have a three-year contract and I want to be in the Premier League for two.

“My ambition is to get there and stay there. I wanted to stay there with Sheffield and I still feel that I should have, had everything been on an equal footing. It still rankles but we won’t go there.”

The Canaries blew a glorious chance after 27 minutes when Grant Holt was tugged to the ground by Clint Hill.

However, Wes Hoolahan dragged the resulting penalty a couple of yards wide of Paddy Kenny’s goal.

Despite Rangers’ failure to score in front of their biggest crowd for six years, Warnock insisted: “I am enjoying it, definitely. I told two or three players to smile a bit more. ‘‘When you are playing like we are and have the best crowd for so many years, it’s fantastic.

“It’s like old-fashioned football. I said to the fourth official 10 minutes before half-time ‘it’s a cracking match isn’t it this?’

“I know it was 0-0 but both teams had a go and tried to win the game. That’s how it should be.

“It is slightly different here than at Sheffield United. Because I was a Sheffield United fan I probably didn’t enjoy football as much.’’

Despite Hoolahan’s dreadful penalty, team-mate Andrew Crofts insisted: “Wes had scored two before that so none of the lads are holding it against him.

“He is brave enough to take it, so no one is bothered about it" Mirror

- Ian Holloway Talking about his past managers and their Team Talks, including Gerry Francis
- "....[G]etting the team talk right can be vital. The best I ever heard as a player was from Gerry Francis at QPR. He wasn't happy with us because we had forgotten what he had asked us to do as a group. He went round every one of us in the dressing room and asked what we were doing before we came to his club. People were mumbling things like "erm, I was at Brentford and it wasn't going well". He said, "Right, well shut up then." He then looked at all of us and said he wasn't trying to be clever but that we all had to learn together. He said his last gig hadn't gone too well either, he'd been sacked by Exeter. But the fact he came out with all this, and the way he said it, galvanised us and improved our game..." Ian Holloway Column
