Two Pieces: QPR Set to Loan Leigertwood...QPR Want Leigertwood to Rush Back and Play

Dave McIntyre/Kilburn Times - CHAMPIONSHIP strugglers Preston are interested in signing Mikele Leigertwood on loan from QPR.- North End manager Darren Ferguson is today hoping to get the green light from the Lancashire club’s board to make loan signings.

Even if that happens, any deal for Leigertwood would depend on Rangers agreeing to pay the bulk of the player’s wages.

Rangers previously seemed willing to do so, although two of their defenders – Bradley Orr and Matt Connolly – have since picked up suspensions after being sent off in recent matches.

Leigertwood, who turns 28 on Friday, was QPR’s first signing after the Flavio Briatore-led takeover when he moved from Sheffield United – then managed by Rs boss Neil Warnock - for £925,000 in August 2007.

He has made 10 appearances this season, mostly as a substitute. Kilburn Times

Paul Warburton/Fulham Chronicle - Neil Warnock tries to recall QPR star from international duty to solve defensive crisis
QPR boss Neil Warnock has sent an SOS for Mikele Leigertwood to get back from his international trip in Antigua – even if it means the midfielder flying 4,000 miles overnight.

The Hoops manager is suddenly faced with a crisis in defence following the 1-1 draw at Portsmouth on Tuesday when Matt Connolly was sent off to go with the same fate suffered by Bradley Orr last Saturday.

With central defender Fitz Hall also out, and Gavin Mahon’s recovering hamstring too soon for Saturday's trip to Nottingham Forest, texts have been flying back and forth across the Atlantic between Warnock and Legs.

The manager said: "I’d given him permission before last weekend – and he and Josh Parker are both over there.

"They already played Wednesday, but I’m hoping Antigua might do us a favour and allow him back before their second game on Sunday."

Leigertwood is playing in the Digicel Caribbean Cup. And if allowed to miss Sunday’s game against Cuba, will almost certainly be in the reckoning at the City Ground – jet-lagged or not. Fulham Chronicle

Out-on-Loan German, Fined/Dropped
Southend Echo/Chris Phillips - Paul Sturrock: Southend United's Antonio German dropped for being late
ANTONIO German was named among the substitutes for Southend United’s clash with Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night – after turning up late.

The striker had originally been named in the starting line-up for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy quarter final at Roots Hall.

But he dropped to the bench after arriving at around 6.50pm.

“The young lad has come here to play football games but on Tuesday night he got caught up in the circus of the A127 and paid the price of not starting the game,” confirmed Southend boss Paul Sturrock.

“He was going to start but it enabled me to look at another partnership and he might pay the price again this Saturday because it gave others a chance to play. He will also have a wee fine in his wages too.”

German is currently on loan from Championship club Queen’s Park Rangers and scored on his debut from the penalty spot against Macclesfield Town last weekend. The Echo

QPR Compared to Last Season at this Stage
After 16 games, QPR currently have 'just' 7 points more than we did at this point last season. After 16 games last season, we had 27 points and were fourth (and talking about promotion) (That of course was at around QPR's "peak" and the club soon went on a plunge which turned into a plummit... Magilton vs Buzsaky...Suspension...Hart...Harford. (As noted by a poster: Last season, QPR had 34 points after 30 games!)
