Brentford boss makes Rowan Vine admission

ANDY Scott admits Rowan Vine could return to QPR without playing a game for Brentford.

The Bees boss brought Vine back for a second spell at Griffin Park three weeks ago, but he is yet to make an appearance in red and white.

Scott has warned the 28-year-old, who has played just five games all season, that he must get up to speed to stand a chance of making his squad.

Vine's fitness fight has suffered a setback after he picked up a calf injury in training, and Scott says he doesn't know whether the Rangers striker will meet the level required before his loan expires on January 4.

"We assess every player that comes to the football club to make sure they're fit enough to train with us and the assessments we've made have said he's not," admitted Scott.

"We train very hard and have got some fit players and he has to be at that standard to get into the squad.

"He's not there yet, and got a little tweak in his calf which will set him back a little while longer.

"It's going to be touch and go whether he gets to that fitness level. It's unfortunate, but we can't forego what the lads do every day.

"We need our players to train 100 per cent, but at the way the players are performing at the moment, anyone would struggle to get in the team no matter who they are." Hounslow Chronicle
