Taraabt wins Championship Player of the Year award


- QPR star Adel Taraabt was named Championship player of the year last night to cap Rangers’ memorable charge towards the Premier League.
- The Hoops’ Moroccan star, signed from Spurs last summer, has helped propel Neil Warnock’s side to nine points clear at the top of the table.
- They remain on course for promotion after a 1-0 win at Doncaster on Saturday.
- And Taraabt, 21, has weighed in with 15 goals from his free attacking role in Warnock’s side.
- Warnock said: “Adel has had a great season. He’s been an important player for us and is very talented.”- Other winners at last night’s awards bash at The Brewery in London included Peterborough hot-shot Craig Mackail-Smith, 27, who has 27 goals this term in League One.
- Bury’s veteran striker Ryan Lowe, 32, got the League Two player of the season award after bagging 24 goals for the Shakers.
- The Football League Young Player of the Year went to Connor Wickham of Ipswich Town, who also the division’s apprentice of the year.
- Dale Jennings of Tranmere Rovers got the League One apprentice of the year award and Kadeem Harris of Wycombe the League Two accolade.
- Greg Clarke, chairman of The Football League, said: ?The evening has been another huge success and I congratulate all the winners.?
- Elsewhere long-serving Crewe manager Dario Gradi, 69, picked up a lifetime achievement award after nearly 30 years in charge of Crewe.
- The Italian-born boss, in his second spell at the club, spent 24 years at Gresty Road from 1983-2007 before returning and then coming back.

- Adel Taarabt has tonight (Sunday) been crowned npower Championship Player of the Year.
- The Rangers skipper scooped the prestigious award ahead of Norwich City front-man Grant Holt and Swansea's Scott Sinclair at a gala evening at The Brewery, London, this evening.
-Taarabt has been in quite outstanding form for the R's so far this season, producing one superlative performance after another, as Neil Warnock's men continue their all-out assault on the summit of the second tier.
- 'Tarbs' - as he's been dubbed by Warnock - has 15 goals and 15 assists to his name so far this season.
- The 'Taarabt's too good for you' chant has never been more relevant that tonight.

FOOTBALL LEAGUE
- Queens Park Rangers player Adel Taraabt has won the npower Championship Player of the year Award at the 2011 Football League Awards.
- Fans of League clubs were given the opportunity to vote for their top players via the npower website.The top ranked players from each club were then used to compile a list for the expert judging panel to pick from. Judges were asked to select the players from each division they felt have been the most outstanding this season.
- On winning the award, Taraabt said, "I am really happy to be named the top player in the npower Championship. I had a difficult time at Spurs and going to QPR was a risk for me, but things have gone very well and hopefully, I will be back in the Premier League next season."
