Striker gets QPR chance - Jul 14 2011 By Paul Warburton - Gazette
DANNY Webber will get another chance to impress QPR boss Neil Warnock in tomorrow night's friendly at Harrow Borough.
The former Sheffield United and Portsmouth frontman has been training with Rangers, and has been earmarked for an appearance at the Ryman Premier outfit in Rs first pre-season game.
The outing is part payment for ex-Borough striker Troy Hewitt after he moved to Loftus Road last season, and gives Webber a further chance to claim a surprise contract.
Warnock said: “I think not only this match (Harrow) – but I’d like to see how Danny does in the friendlies in Cornwall next week.”
The 29-year-old was with Warnock at Bramall Lane between 2005-07, but is a free agent after being released by Portsmouth. Ealing Gazette

Talksport - Exclusive - Graham reveals he turned down West Brom and QPR for Swansea move
Danny Graham has revealed he had the pick of Queens Park Rangers, West Brom and Swansea but chose Brendan Rodgers’ side because of their style of football.
The 25-year-old former Watford striker signed for the Swans for a £3.5m fee and insisted his heart was set on a move to the Liberty Stadium as soon as he heard Rodgers’ plans for the club.
“When I spoke to Brendan he came across as a really enthusiastic manager,” Graham said. “[He is] driven and wants to do well similar to myself as a player. I want to achieve goals and do well in the Premier League.
“From the moment I met Brendan to leaving the meeting I knew my heart was set on Swansea City.”Danny Graham
“Obviously the style of play was massive. I’ve been playing against them for a few years now and it’s something that attracted me to Swansea.
“I met West Brom, I met QPR – it could have been quite easy for me to go to QPR I could have stayed where I was living. I spoke to West Brom and liked what I heard but not as much as Swansea. From the moment I met Brendan to leaving the meeting I knew my heart was set on Swansea City.”
Graham added that he is looking forward to the season getting underway and having the chance to surprise some big name sides.
The striker is relishing Swansea’s role as underdogs, saying: “I think we’ll surprise a few teams, that is something we’re looking forward to.
“We’ll be underdogs in most games this season and that’s great. Let it be that way and just let us concentrate on ourselves and I’m sure we can surprise a few teams along the way and survive.” Talksport
Standard - Neil Warnock gambles on Kieron Dyer as Jay Bothroyd seals deal
13 Jul 2011
QPR manager Neil Warnock has confirmed he expects to sign Kieron Dyer on a one-year deal today and insisted it's a gamble worth taking.
Dyer, who is a free agent having been released by West Ham at the end of last season when his contract expired, has agreed personal terms on a move to Loftus Road.
The 32-year-old has been plagued by injury problems throughout his career and has made just 15 Premier League starts in the last four years at West Ham.
His career has been written off in many circles, but Warnock is adamant that Dyer can make an impact for QPR in the Premier League this term.
Warnock told Standard Sport: "As far as I'm concerned it's a gamble worth taking. He really impressed me in training and it looks like he has been working hard on his fitness throughout the summer.
"He has a lot of experience and is desperate to play in the Premier League again. I like the hunger he's got and he wants to prove a point. I really appreciate his commitment. There were other clubs in for him and he could have earned more money elsewhere, but he wants to play for QPR. He wanted to stay in London and I think he can really help us."
The England international has been beset with hamstring problems and has struggled for fitness ever since he broke his right leg in two places in 2007.
Warnock has revealed the nature of the short-term deal has taken this into account and added: "As far as I am concerned, we can't lose. We have protected ourselves. If things don't go well then we can always go our separate ways, it's a deal that suits both parties."
QPR, who confirmed they have signed striker Jay Bothroyd on a three-year deal, are also in talks with Blackpool striker DJ Campbell.
Warnock also hopes to sign Tottenham right back Kyle Naughton on loan. he said: "We have a great relationship with Spurs and we tried to sign Kyle in January before he went to Leicester. We can give him Premier League experience and help him develop in the same way Kyle Walker benefitted from being on loan from Spurs at at Aston Villa last season."
